Okay, I'm never buying another product from EBGames. Ever. I pre-ordered Halo 2 CE May 16th for overnight delivery - tonight - and either both the EBGames and FedEx websites are wrong, or they've not shipped it. I'll wait and see if it actually comes, but if it doesn't... well, f*** EB. This won't be the first time they've screwed me on a delivery.

The mall here had a Halo 2 4-player LAN party out in the food court later in the day, but I wasn't able to partake. Not that I'm even minutely interested in MP anyway.
Just one of the gamestops here (the one I'm getting my copy at) had over 500 back in July when I re-reserved it there after moving from Lincoln. Highest volume store in the district aside of Chicago, I guess. The mall (just blocks away) was set back to their second allocation, too, before that got sorted out for one big shipment.
I was just talking about the Gamestop in my area, I was chatting with the employees and Halo 2 does have more reserved copies (at this time) then Half-Life 2, and like you said, it's the more "public" title.

welp, I've got my copy. Left at 12:09 and was out of the store with copy in hand by 12:35. Hooray! Of course, as much as I'd love to give it a spin, it'll have to wait until tomorrow... my wife is sick and I'd probably keep her up if I had the TV on in the living room, at least loud enough to know what is going on

Halo 2 effectively has close to 2 million already in pre-sales, and I'd guess right at 2 or over for first week sales. Doom 3 sold about 300k first week and that was considered huge for the PC market (aside of Blizzard games and The Sims). GTA:SA more than doubled that in its first week, at least from first reports. There's simply more console gamers than PC gamers. That probably won't change anytime soon.

Anywhere around 5-600 reserves for Halo 2 was the norm, considered pretty much average. Some stores had over 1500. Half-Life 2? Maybe 20 or 30 reserves in my store, I'd say. Maybe. Even that is pushing it to the extreme.
Half the problem is its very difficult to design and program games for the PC. Because a console contains just one piece of specification hardware you only need to make the game run on that.
Bring the PC in however and you got to make sure the game can run on both ATi / nVidia hardware, AMD / Intel processors etc etc.
Meh.. screw it then. More sales != better game [look how well Windows is selling ], and the less Halo fans who get HL2, the less schmucks I'll have to put up with on my multiplayer games.

Funny request this, but can someone give me a link to a Halo2 story spoilers site?. I have no intention of playing it until its out on PC, but im quite interested, having placed the first, to know what its about.
One cool fact: Master Chief turns the pistol on it side when it's charged up. Gangsta.
One tiny spoiler (not much though): Cortana got an upgrade, she has hair, go hair.
Second cool fact: Marines and Helljumper AI is so much better, Jesus, they actaully cover you. Like you need it...
First annoying fact: The Drones (flyers) fscking pwn me >_> Not used to fighting in 3 dimensions with Halo <_<
Third cool fact: I got a hat with a 2 on it, yay for me.
Fourth cool fact: The Collecter's Edition manual is from the Covenant point of view
Fifth cool fact: My hat pwns your hat

EDITZ: Having a LAN party on Saturday at my friends place.
2nd EDITZ: We need to start a online Halo clan. My friends at school are getting XBL soon and I should register the clan soon. Who wants to be in it and what should the name be? (Something cool, not Grunts for Hire or something idiotic)

Suffers from the same problems I thought it would (after hearing of the Covenent stuff). I'm sure they could still make an interesting 3rd game...but it's just kind of messed up with how they did it.
Plus: the No health bar; no damage from falling stuff is a bit annoying - especially for multiplayer.
Some of the weapons sound weak, especially the plasma pistol and the SMGs (along with the blatantly weak Sentinel Beam...but what would you expect?). Plus, charging up the plasma pistols is a lot less satisfying, because there's no health, and all the covenent weapons seemed to be cool or crap.
Plasma Pistol -- (most useless weapon now) Plasma Grenades + Frag Grenades - (look a lot weaker) Damaged, exploding ghosts ++ Needler explosions - (they could have kept the old effect and they'd be great) Hunters +++ (Fuel Rod gun effect = ownage; along with the fact one bullet doesn't kill them) Dual Wielding ++ Drones = (...meh, they at least make it Starship Trooper-ish) Level Design + (far less cutting and pasting, although indoors it's pretty prominent...most of the levels are outdoors, however). Energy Sword ++...woot Battle Rifle = (you should be able to pull the trigger faster, it's far to burst fire-y, while it should be able to go a bit closer to automatic) Lower texture resolution ? Seeing MC's legs when you look down --------- (God, they're so blocky and retarded)
...Well, I figure that's as much grading as I can give without shooting out spoilers. Well worth the $58.01...but it would have been better if they kept stuff from the first game, and didn't have such a messed up story progression. Plus: Everyone says the ending is abrupt...I'm not really seeing it...it makes plenty of sense to me...I guess, it cuts out before a possible good battle...but the main sub-plot related to the game does end first.
Here are some improvements in the game (I'll make the color dark so it will be up to you to read or not).
The plasma sword is freakin' awesome. On multiplayer, especially the small maps, the sword seriously dominates whoever is in the lead. If you let them get anywhere near you, you're toast...
And, my new favorite weapon, the plasma beam, is the much improved sniper rifle. You can shoot much faster (though you should watch your overheat meter), and you can zoom in as well as a sniper rifle. Though, where it is particularly nice, is that you can use it up close without zoom and be reasonably affective. It also has quite a bit of shot life to it.
All the convenant vehicles now have this "engine burst" feature that keeps them from firing, but they move faster. The ghost was slowed down to compensate, but is actually faster (I think) with the booster on. Oh, and you can hijack any vehicle. Hijacking the wraith is particularly amusing.
Apparently, you also start off with a random weapon (meaning you can get weapons that the map doesn't even provide if you start with it). Rocket launchers are amongst these, and whoever has them tends to dominate at close range.
You can join games (if they are made open) at any time while the game is being played. I thought this was a great improvement, seeing how most of the time you have to wait for a game to end before playing with people.
Also, they have a new game mode: assault. You have to carry this bomb from your base and plant it near their bomb site for it to arm. When you do, your team gets a score, and everybody remotely near the bomb site is destroyed (including the guy who brings the bomb there).
And some weapon advice: pistols suck! Don't use unless you dual wield. Shotgun has been given even more kick and power, but it reloads slower (so reload every chance you can).
Should have some good advice for those looking for Halo 2 infos.

Hunters +++ (Fuel Rod gun effect = ownage; along with the fact one bullet doesn't kill them)
Dual Wielding ++
Drones = (...meh, they at least make it Starship Trooper-ish)
Level Design + (far less cutting and pasting, although indoors it's pretty prominent...most of the levels are outdoors, however).
Energy Sword ++...woot
Battle Rifle = (you should be able to pull the trigger faster, it's far to burst fire-y, while it should be able to go a bit closer to automatic)
Lower texture resolution ?
Seeing MC's legs when you look down --------- (God, they're so blocky and retarded)
...Well, I figure that's as much grading as I can give without shooting out spoilers. Well worth the $58.01...but it would have been better if they kept stuff from the first game, and didn't have such a messed up story progression. Plus: Everyone says the ending is abrupt...I'm not really seeing it...it makes plenty of sense to me...I guess, it cuts out before a possible good battle...but the main sub-plot related to the game does end first.
This game is orgasmic. I can't feel my legs...
