What I'd really like to see is a complete remake, with new textures, high poly models, better looking remakes of the maps...etc
especially if it might be possible to port halflife over without throwing out the extra 40 bucks.
Easy? Probably.
Legal? Definately not.

The textures for said mod are in the works as we speak. They look hawt like chili peppers.

No. I am fully aware of Half-Life:Enhanced, and how totally awesome it will be. But its for Half-Life only. They refuse to port it to the Source engine
Meh. I'm sure those'll get done later. Maybe I'll do some in my spare time.
"Give us more money, get Half-Life Source for FREE!"
How is this different from purchasing?
and $40 to purchase hl2 and cs:s
but you can still upgrade for $10....
because that would be what i'd want to do

I don't think so. There's no reason to buy retail though; just cut out the middleman and buy silver.

i want the box
retail is where it's at
i might even get CE
Quoted for emphasis.
If you buy retail because you "want a box" you're as bad as those technology-fearing fools who run away from their Macintosh because they saw a bomb icon and thought it was going to explode. It's like people have some sort of complex where if you don't get a piece of cardboard enclosing a piece of plastic that contains the code you could have just downloaded from Valve, then you don't have anything. Bah.

or its not trusting steam with the only records of my purchase.

You don't trust Steam with keeping track who bought what? That's just stupid. You trust it enough to enter your Half-Life CD-Key. That's tied to your account just as much as the games would be.
Exactly!
And don't come out with all that crap baout burning the .gcf files to a disc
it won't have the disc art!
How exactly do you "lose" Steam? Even if/when it shuts down, theres something called Offline Mode. You can still play your games.
And don't give me that crap about the CD art. You aren't going to be staring at a game CD, you're going to be putting it into your CD-ROM drive so you can play the game.
In an attempt to get on topic (sort of), I'd like to note that those textures look quite nice.
