possible do you think?
when halflife 2 comes out, since it is apparently easy to port a mod over, would it not theoretically be easy to port halflife over as a mod?

If you purchase the right package, you get the ported Half-Life: Source for free anyway.

What I'd really like to see is a complete remake, with new textures, high poly models, better looking remakes of the maps...etc

well i apologize for not trusting steam, and not having 90 dollars to put down in the store.

especially if it might be possible to port halflife over without throwing out the extra 40 bucks.

Possible? Yes.
Easy? Probably.

Legal? Definately not.

well wouldnt it just be single player sven coop?
• DOOManiacDOOManiac Worst. Critic. Ever. Join Date: 2002-04-17 Member: 462Members, NS1 Playtester
Sven coop can legally use HL1's content because, well, its for HL1. That's the only reason SvenCoop can legally include hl scientists or whatever in the mod. If it was for any other game, that would be illegal.

In the PC Gamer review of Half-Life 2 VALVe said that five groups have already approached them about doing a full port of Half-Life to Source, and although none are done VALVe said it's "inevitable" that a real port would be made by the community.

Looks good, however, these are regular textures, some(alot?) of the bumpier ones should have a normal map as well.

I don't think so. There's no reason to buy retail though; just cut out the middleman and buy silver.

TychoCelchuuu you fool, people don't buy games to play them, they buy them for the box. Why would you play HL2 when you can stare at the box for hours at end?

Quoted for emphasis.

If you buy retail because you "want a box" you're as bad as those technology-fearing fools who run away from their Macintosh because they saw a bomb icon and thought it was going to explode. It's like people have some sort of complex where if you don't get a piece of cardboard enclosing a piece of plastic that contains the code you could have just downloaded from Valve, then you don't have anything. Bah.

You don't trust Steam with keeping track who bought what? That's just stupid. You trust it enough to enter your Half-Life CD-Key. That's tied to your account just as much as the games would be.

How exactly do you "lose" Steam? Even if/when it shuts down, theres something called Offline Mode. You can still play your games.

And don't give me that crap about the CD art. You aren't going to be staring at a game CD, you're going to be putting it into your CD-ROM drive so you can play the game.

I'm not going to be buying off Steam. Mostly because I don't have a credit card. And my parents(who won't let me use MY OWN MONEY THAT I EARN CUTTING OTHER PEOPLE'S LAWNS, and who are convinced that Steam is a self updating virus, and that playing games online will lead to people h4xx0\\ring your computer and taking all your creditcards and ruining you financially) probably won't let me download HL2 off the internet through Steam, let alone use their creditcard to buy it.
