Its released on 00:01 of the 16th on steam. So its pretty friggin close to tonight that it is realesed acctually... I wonder what timezone that it in? because it could acctually be released today for me...

You couldn't hide behind a box in Half-Life 1 either. That is, it blew up after a while.

It's a sequel to an Overrated game who's only competition at the time was Quake 2.
People think there will be tons of awesome mods for it just like HL. Like DoD,NS,CS,TFC and oh wait....

HL2 is going to have the same modding community every other modding community has had since HL

I don't suppose there will be a demo will they? I'm wondering if my creakingly ancient PC (1600XP, 512ddr RAR, 9600 SE 128) will run it at any rate worth buying it.

And I think the anticipation is mainly because of the 1098094019843 mods being planned for it. Of which about 5 will turn out to be successful. But still, 5 for the price of 1 is pretty sweet.

Oh, and HL was one of the very first FPSes to put ubar story above and beyond all.

You hit the nail on the head there, most of my friends don't get it either....

Quake 2 had one hell of a premise. The intro movie was awesome and got you all pumped up. Then wham a huge let down. HL never had a great story. It was scientists experiment. Experiment goes wrong. ONLY 1 MAN CAN STOP IT. And the ending was awesome. Black screen.
I'd be willing to bet my left arm that HL2 will have a horribly cliche ending that would be even more cliche with the DUN DUN DUN following it.

The story wasn't original, it was how the story was told that was revolutionary.

I.E. No crappy cutscenes
I.E. NO pathetic movies (god they look like crap)
I.E. IMMERSIVE


Hello, did you even play the game? The entire story was about you surriving, it had nothing to do with saving the world, (unlike the crappy doom 3 story, the cutscenes sucked, the plot movement sucked, the whole thing was boring) it was just about surrving and somehow you end up kicking butt.

How the story told is what made HL so godlike, and I'm guessing it will make HL2 godlike as well.
