...
I wasn't going to post this yet, but I'm bored, so I will. Kraken is a combat map set in an underwater research facility.

There won't be any forced sojourns into the briny deep unless the marines want to take a dip in the pool in the first shot.

ya I know what you mean.
I think insane just basicly means that the complete map is meant to be underwater (not the playable areas for the players). So the player just plays in an area he is used to.

I love the style of the map! It reminds me of some idea I had last year. I'm writing on a NS novel and I planned a similar place for one or two chapters in it =)

maybe I'll download your map until it's finished to get inspired by it

I think screenshot 4 shows the best use of the yelgrey set of textures ever, really. It looks so clean, and the pillars with the screens set in look beautiful. Although i think the screens look too bright in all the shots, but thats not a big deal. Oh and i love those seats. The whole scene in that shot is just nicely composed.

Beautiful man. This map is full of atmosphere and character. It feels real, and the way the lights are set up is just beautiful. Great work man A++++ would look at map again.

Aliens could at least have cleaned up the floor. And I totally dig the hot-tub. OLO I KNOW IT'S NOT ONE SHUT UP. It's very nice :O

I think this map would be better if you're gonna transform it into a bigger one and release it as an ns map! You don't look on the details that much in combat maps! So this is just a suggestion to honor your hard work =)

looking good saney. I'd like to see at least one flooded corridor though. Not having flooded corridors in underwater facilities is like bast without a rotating door!

It looks very nice! Maybe you could add some flooded vents that are 'alien only' areas, especially as trasportation in and around the hive area.

Excellent name as well.

Olmy: Thanks! I agree that the screens are too bright, I'll see what I can do to tone them down.

brute_force: Thanks a lot. :)

JezPuh: Maybe it is a hot-tub. ;) (It's not really.)

Lt. Realness: Cool! I don't think I'll make it an NS map though; this is just a small thing that I do when I'm not working on other maps. Plus, I've got another NS map up my sleeve and I want to save some mapping juice for that. Some old-timers might know the map I'm referring to...

Supernorn/DragonMech: Worry not. ;) Closer to the hive there will be flooded a flooded section or two. Nothing too hard on the marines though.

Thursday: It's not hugely stretched, but I see what you mean. I think part of it was the angle I took the image at. I may replace it with another.

DrunkenMonkey: Meh. :P I'm quite fond of yellgrey when used well. I tried to cut down on the amount of the yellow sections of the textures used, to give it more of a closed-in steel feeling, which I think works quite well.

Everyone: Thanks for your comments! :)

Boo...

I wish I could show off a map like this... though all I can show is crap... I'll try harder.

Anyways, looks good, nice texture usage, especially with those hard yel_grey textures.

np Insane it was just a suggestion

But I'd really like to see such a similar map (made by you ) for the ns classic modus! But with more light stuff and glaswalls with lots of water behind (you can still see the blue ocean sparkling at you when you're standing in front of it, that'd be a cool alternative to the mostly dark, grey and industrial maps the player is used to).

Just another guess dude *g*
I'll download your map for sure! You have my vote =)

wasn't this Relic25's idea? I'm slightly confused here, did you just take the name and theme? or is it a tribute or finish job on relic25's?

this map looks unusual. compared to other ns maps you used more realistic lightning. nice to see this happening nice architecture, too. the only downside is the use of textures: some are used well and look really pretty but others look like they dont fit there. exspecially the yellow border in the second picture or the blue door in the picture with the papers laying on the ground.
I would like to see this in ns-action

Nothing new so far on the map, I'm afraid. Exams are keeping me busy.

As for the name, I was waiting for someone to notice it. The map started off as a collaborative map called co_patch that followed the basic theme and underwater setting you see in the map. After that died, I took the work I'd done and started to make a new map from it. I then scrapped it and started over on the map, producing what's in this thread. I wanted a new name for it, and I remembered what was to be Relic25's second NS map. I decided to call it that as sort of a tribute to Relic (and I didn't want such a cool name going to waste ). However, if anyone has a problem with me calling it Kraken because of Relic's old map, please let me know and I'll change it.

heh, I think only the really oldschool members/mappers would remember. I remember the teaser Relic posted... a marine helmet... underwater, it was awesome.

Insane, please tell me you'll actually have a Kraken swimming around outside of the ship?! It would be sooo freaky to look out the window and see that huge thing swimming around.

Weeell... someone would have to model a Kraken and it would be have to be coded into NS so that it could swim around outside.

And yes, that teaser was awesome.

Heres some source art for anyone who would like to model the Kraken:
http://www.battleduck.com/pages/imagepages...ges/kraken.html

Also, keeping with it's colossal nature it should be about the size of the map itself... so really friggen huge.
