I can only laugh and throw my hands up in the air. It's a shameful time to be an American.
my favorite quote from the article:
"We've declared war and the bad guys, wherever they are, are the enemy."

In the New Yorker magazine, Hersh says intelligence officials have revealed that Iran is the Bush administration's "next strategic target".
Hersh says that American special forces have conducted reconnaissance missions inside Iran for six months.
But the White House has described his article as "riddled with inaccuracies".
Potential targets include nuclear sites and missile installations, he says.
The New Yorker journalist adds that President Bush has authorised the operations, defining them as military to avoid legal restrictions on CIA covert intelligence activities overseas.
...
...
The BBC's Justin Webb in Washington says that while Hersh could be wrong he has a series of scoops to his name, including the details of the Abu Ghraib prison abuse scandal last year.
His track record suggests that he should be taken seriously, our correspondent says.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Reliable enough?
Also notice that the article (whether due to bias or whatever) didn't state that the White House 100% denied the claim. It could have some truth to it, but it's "riddled with inaccuracies" instead of being 100% untrue.
And just by reading some of this guys "news" It's obvious that he'll say anything to make Bush look bad. The New Yorker itself focuses mainly on entertainment in and around New York, international news is not it's forte.
Seems there have been reports of american commandos at the local penicillin factory, a school and several weddings. Unfortunatly they have been unable to locate any canadians on training exercises.
The article was right about some things...Iran does exist as a country.
The United States does have commando teams.
Somewhere in the Pentagon is a list of potential targets for a hypothetical war with Iran...and most likely every other country.
She is, in fact, Golden.

The BBC tends do be very accurate and unbiased, and they do say it IS a rumour but calling it garbage is just wrong.
The BBC article clearly states that it is just a rumour, but from a reliable source.
I do however really doubt that anotherf conflict would be good for the US, its already in a lot of bad books over its international dealings with other countries.
The UK is just gonna have to pick a side soon.

It's not a question a how it would damage our international relations it's a question of how the hell do you think we can pull off a war with Iran off right now?
Our military is already stretched thin; we simply do not have the man power or the money to start a massive campaign like Iran any time soon. Sure we could blow the hell out of them from a distance, pummel the country into a pile of rubble without setting a foot into it, but you and I both know we won't do that.
Explain to me how we could possible start a war with Iran, and still maintain our policy of rebuilding and spreading democracy, the whole point behind Bush's war on terror?

I choose you, Godzilla!
Not going to be much of a secret then, is it?
You really think the White House is going to be airing it's dirty laundry like that?

Well Afgahnistan hasnt been rebuilt in the slightest and this is what 2 maby 3 years on?
I sevearly doubt that Iraq will be rebuilt to a satisfactory standard.
As for spreading democracy, if people wanted democracy they would have fought for change, look at every major democratic nation, most of them faught for it, im not saying that those poeple didnt want democracy but look at what happend to the Iraqi army when the invasion began, they pretty much laid down arms.
What about comunism, as long as the leadership doesnt get courpt them its fine, yes I know tis catch 22 you need someone to lead the communist state, but the communist system just needs some little changes to become a workable system, but iv no idea what they are.
And the UK must decide whether to go with the US and NATO or Europe and the UN.
Im gonna try not get back into the 1st lot up their again because im probably gonna end up flaming or something....

Afghanistan, for those who have forgotten, is a country that's currently hidden under Iraq. Its sides are showing a bit, so we need another country on top to cover the mess.
I beleive it does!
It also conjoins some other nearby now friendly teritories!
I sevearly doubt that Iraq will be rebuilt to a satisfactory standard.

Well I think we are making progress, perhaps you need to open your eyes and make your expectations a bit more realistic. This isn't Japan...skyscrapers and restaurants are not going to magically rise up out of the desert. However if you compare Afghanistan today to Afghanistan under the Taliban, it’s easy to see all the improvements that have been made. I mean come on...they can play soccer now. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Well I would advise them to stick with the US. Europe and its "Union" is a joke at the moment and the UN without the US is rather insignificant organization. I guess China would be the most powerful nation there without us...so uh yea good luck with that and all.
Somehow I don't think that kind of recovery will ever happen again.
Training new soldiers to defend against what? Its US ocupied teritory, yes they have a democracy now but what do they have tos how for it?
As for the EU being a joke, how about the fact that we have solved many problems in the EU, and now more and more countries want to join.
Last time I checked the UN treated everyone equaly with the exception of the scurity council where WW2s winners get a veto but thats in debate now too. Lets also face it that if the US doesnt get its way in the UN itl do it anyway and the onyl reason it would bother is because of international pressure.
If the UN is powerless without the US, why bother being part of it?
And if the US is so powerfull it should do ONE thing at a time unless something is a risk that way it gets done right.
Just because it isnt broke doesnt mean it cant be fixed.
*sigh....
hmm CNN and MSNBC have news articles on this as well.
then again Seymour Hersh the award wining author of the article in the New Yorker
is the same guy who exposed the US Army Prison abuse scandal. Of course the governemnt doesnt like him, and of course they would try to discredit him.
Guess time will tell.
Suprisingly, he didn't seem like a complete crackpot. So perhaps there may be a shread of truth to this. Wouldn't suprise me either way anymore...

If it is true though, I think that whomever is leaking this crap to the public needs to stand trial for treason...

for those of you who are **** off, okay, fine. be **** off.
but for those of you who are like OMG HOW THE HELL COULD THIS HAPPEN!???! AMERIKA SUKZ IT KEEPS SURPRISING US WITH NEW INVASIONS....
iran has been on the hit list for a long time.
being outraged at the "sudden stupid decision to invade iran" is like being outraged at the tectonic plates shifting. "OMG THEY'RE DOING IT <i>AGAIN!!!</i>"

Sadly, that's the majority of the English populations' problem.
Our government picked a side, yet our country didn't.

I'd be sure to visit him in prison to give him a medal.
Once again: Down with Bush! This may sound stupid, but we *badly* need to stay home. We only happen to be in a huge defecit, are dealing with huge civil rights problems, having problems with job availability, oh, and the fact that we still have 1000x the murders of every other country on earth. Yeah, lets invade.
