Being, in my youth, an avid Duke fanboy, i actually have faith that it will be released, for a few reasons.

The first, because they said they'll do it, and since i was a fanboy, i believe them.

But secondly, and most importantly, over the years they've become a massive joke in the industry. They don't even go to E3 anymore because they say they don't want people to keep making fun of them. Right now, DNF is something that can't go under. It's a game that has to be released to prove to themselves and the rest of the industry that they weren't freaking around and can make a damned fine game, and i actually have faith that they will do it.

    lol Forever means.... FOREVER lol

On my other list of games never to see the light of day is TF2.

Now that we have tons of games like Full Spectrum Warrior, a couple Tom Clany games and countless others that are coming out its not even remotly unique anymore.

Well, it's not Duke Nukem Forever, but there is:

Duke Nukem Minimod for Source - http://www.hl2world.com/

So you can get your fix of old school 2 and a 1/2 D DN at some point, possibly. Hail to the King, Baby!

Yeah but tf2 went into hiding becuase of source they are working on it though, with the delays that folloed hl2.....

DNF could be good. I mean, we could use a fast paced, visceral, none too serious shooter. The last good one was Serious Sam or something.

The longer it takes, the more outdated it risks becoming. I reckon DN:F is almost fossilised by now.

Silly, dumb, overly optimistic esuna and his kickass Appleseed avatar and sig... :P

I too loved Duke so much back in the day. I want the game to happen, I really do. Its not like Daikatana, where I want the project to fail. I want it to succeed. I want it to restore Duke to his former glory.

I just have no confidence that it will actually happen...

Isn't it kind of funny that its been in dev so long we refer to the last one as "in my youth"? heh.

I have the DNF 2001 announcement E3 trailer (which is really goddamn good) and a DNF desktop. So... I really hope it'll get released, because the game in the trailer looked awesome...

Well, when i say "in my youth" i'm talking about Duke 1-3, which were all 1996 and earlier. Currently i'm 22, take off 9 years, and that's pretty damned youthful for me.

I really, honestly have faith that 3D Realms will pull through for this one, be it only for the proof that it was worth waiting for. Hoping it's a good game is one thing, which i also have, but when you also realise that this will make or break their reputation in the gaming industry, they can't let it fail.

EDIT: I also look forward to the day when i can say "i've been waiting for DNF longer than you've been alive".

I really do hope that 3DR comes out with this. Not like they've been doing anything.. I'll wait for.. ever.. if I have too..

The release of DNF is actually a sign of the Apocalypse. Really, I swear it was mentioned in Revelation. Around chapter 9 somewhere. Yeah.

    lmao

It better be a VERY good game, or 3DRealms is done for, which will be a damn shame.

Anyone remember Terminal Velocity? Such an awesome game...

It doesn't have to be fantabolously amazing, people will buy it for the hell of it as long as it isn't utter crap.

I think what makes a game stand out nowadays is the character of it, not the special effects or physics or whatever other labels you can slap on it. The DNF team need to forget the 5000 poly 4d environments and focus on making a game with as much flair [and strippers] as the original. The graphics quality could be circa 1990 for all I care.

What engine is it on now?

I seem to remember news of a 5th engine....

i think it would be pretty funny if some how DNF got on the new unreal engine and had a ton of fun action like the first duke games now that would be a awsome comeback

If you've seen any of the past trailers, the Duke personality is definately still there in full force, along with the humour, one liners and strippers.

Latest PC Gamer (U.S) has an in depth artical on Prey...a game published by 3d Realms that was supposed to be made on the Quake 2 engine back in 1997 but was scraped for the Doom 3 engine . Anyways...they have a lil block near the end saying that DNF is in development on the Doom 3 engine and more info will be relased soon. i swear to god ive seen this somewhere...
i think its on game spy's forums.

anyways, the gist is that DNF is a collaboration effort with teh US governement concerning the fact about the aliens-ma-bobs

the truth of the delaying is...we cant handle the truth...

so yah, when we could, they would release it as...a public-alien-shooting-home-training >_>
