Legitimate free music!
So particularly with the inclusion of soundtrack CDs for Half-Life 2 and Dawn of War being made available with orders and pre-orders, I've started actively searching more soundtracks where I can find them. Turns out there's actually quite a few available online.
A single track, but one of the best I've heard from a game, was just released the other day on MP3.com - the Brothers in Arms theme, performed by the Prague Philharmonic. You should be able to download it directly from this URL.
Blizzard made available a huge selection of tracks from Diablo 2 and Lord of Destruction over time a couple years ago. Many are available in one large pack, with a bunch more as single downloads. I kept up to date with these as they were originally released, but still have to go about grabbing them again. Most can be found here, with additional MP3s in the specific Bonus and Lord of Destruction sets.
More recently I've discovered a series of game soundtracks for free download on sites such as Fileplanet and FileShack (and I'm guessing you could find plenty of mirrors elsewhere, as these are official releases). Among these are:
Deus Ex 2:
http://www.fileplanet.com/files/130000/139383.shtml
Chronicles of Riddick:
http://www.fileplanet.com/files/140000/142261.shtml
http://www.fileshack.com/file.x?fid=5125
Men of Valor:
http://www.fileshack.com/file.x?fid=5310
http://www.fileplanet.com/files/140000/144628.shtml
Metal Arms: Glitch in the System: (this is a fun one, check out the stereo intro to Rat Race in particular)
http://www.fileplanet.com/files/130000/135381.shtml
http://www.fileshack.com/file.x?fid=4204
Myth III:
http://www.fileplanet.com/files/80000/80877.shtml
Children of the Nile:
http://www.fileplanet.com/files/140000/148784.shtml
http://www.fileshack.com/file.x?fid=6010
Some mods are even included - Red Orchestra:
http://www.fileshack.com/file.x?fid=5844
Oh, and this doesn't technically count, but don't miss the punkish cover of the Katamari Damacy theme song by TX-based Corey vs. Corey:
http://www.fileplanet.com/files/140000/147319.shtml
I haven't even had a chance to listen to all of these yet, and am downloading some now, but it's definitely reassuring to know there is quality music in games and hope for those of us sick of the licensed music trend.

Or winzip. PAK3 and PAK4 files are ZIP files, not RARs. WinRar reads ZIP files, which is how this nasty rumor got started.
The DOOM3 track is in pak003.pk4\d3theme.ogg
The Quake 3 music is in pak0.pk3 and there are several in \music at the very bottom of the file (in WinZip). They are all .wav's though so you'll most likely want to convert them to mp3.
And while these aren't direct game soundtracks, there are thousands of remixes available at:

The Grim Fandango Soundtrack. Ah, good times.
LUCASARTS MUSIC!!!!!!!!! It doesn't have Star Wars or Indiana Jones games for legal reasons, but Monkey Island, Grim Fandango, The Dig, Outlaws, Sam and Max, and everything else you could ever want is all there. BEST WEBSITE EVER!!!!
Well, if that site doesn't work for whatever reason, you can get the soundtrack here.
If anyone is willing to provide hosting, or give me very easy instructions to set up a torrent so the rest of us can get them, PM me. Planescape's music alone is 72 megs, and I imagine it and Baldur's Gate will be very popular, so be prepared for some bandwidth drain.
I know that the orchestral version of the Deus Ex Title theme is available on fileplanet.com, and it pwns the ponce off the original. However, I am too lazy to link to it.
Well, they could be put in zips. At the moment I have them somewhat strewn about several folders on my hard drive (my guess is Windows Media Player tried to organize them unsuccessfully). My estimate is that Baldur's Gate alone is at least 50megs, Planescape is, as I said, 72 megs, Freespace 2 is at least 13 megs (I doubt it's the entire soundtrack, but it's what was up for download), and icewind dale, I can currently only find the 2-meg theme, not the soundtrack.
Total about/at least 137 megs.

You can get the HL1 Soundtrack (as well as OpFor and Blueshift I believe)
by simply sticking them in your CD player and skipping past track 1 which is the data track.
"Keeper, your dungeon is full of yoghurt"
"Keeper, you minions demand cable"
xD
Some Dune 2 (yes the old one )

More songs:
http://digitalpress.5u.com/dpsoundz/soundmus.htm
Unreal 2 for the win!
As for HL 1 series all on the CDs or in directories, HL2 you need to buy.
Sim City 4 has a pretty good soundtrack, also available in the game folders.
All C&C games bar generals I think can be opened with an .aud player codec but they may require extration from their .mix files.
Tribes 2 soundtrack is in the game folders too only 4 tracks i think tho.
