In short.
In long and incredible depth from HL1 start - HL2 end. <a href='http://fragfiles.org/~hlstory//' target='_blank'>Click_meh_down_there</a>
Same here, maybe I should try finish that Doom 3 thing ?
basically the g-man is using alyx to make gordon do his bidding.
thanks a lot, svenpa! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
end of hl1 you get employed by gman. he keeps you in a stasis field. combine take over earth after 7 hour war. gman sends you in to kick the combine ****. you kick their ****. chase the administrator breen and get captured along with your buddies along the way. kick your way out. chase breen as breen tries to teleport to another world you kick his **** too. huge explosion which is supposed to destroy the entire combine citidel. gman stops time. teleports you back into a statis field. wait for half life 3. its assumed that alyx died

no, the g-man pauses time at the exact moment of the explosion, therefore alyx can still be alive... that's why he's making gordon do his work, because alyx is at risk this time. or else what incentive would gordon have to do anything?

Play the first 1 hour maby 2, the rest is pretty much exactly the same.
Still, I felt good after completing HL2....

Possibly his incentive is SAVING THE WORLD MULTIPLE TIMES. That's a nice thing to do and usually people with a conscience feel bad if they had the opportunity to SAVE THE WORLD and they didn't.
hehe, good point. we just dont know if it was intended that players need to "discover" the whole "plot" only with a few hints, or if the guys at valve are just plain lazy when it comes to creating a good story...
considering the hype, especially the games story was a letdown for me. not considering the hype and comparing it to games like doom3 or farcry, its pretty solid <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
<b>The tech demo ends</b>

I doubt they'd hire the famous writer Marc Laidlaw just to make a half-assed story and have the community think of the rest.

Ooooh, Grendel for the bitter sarcastic snide remark. I take it you were disappointed with the game. What did you expect then? It's not like HL1 was any different, really.
Or maybe he just can't stop killing.
That would actually be the smartest thing they could possibly do. Create an atomspheric, believeable world (check), drop a number of consistent morsels as core story tennets (check), and then leave it to the audience to make the details up. It works great for horror since the days of Poe, why not adapt it?
Grendel, first Joe, now you. I begin sensing a pattern here... <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Well, I think Laidlaw definately knew what he was writing here. I think its more of a thing where if you were just along for the ride, you won't get much out of it. But when you search and try to figure things out, you get more and more out of it.
Like the Child Factory...... O.o
I think it's part of the Mobius Continuum. It sure as hell looks like how the Mobius Continuum was described by Brian Lumley.
Thats my 2 cents anyway...
Best part of the whole game <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

The thread's about HL2, not Doom 3.

Agreed. I was laughing my rear off when I hear that. I am gonna make that my shutdown sound whenever I shutoff my computer.
