no, the g-man pauses time at the exact moment of the explosion, therefore alyx can still be alive... that's why he's making gordon do his work, because alyx is at risk this time. or else what incentive would gordon have to do anything?

Play the first 1 hour maby 2, the rest is pretty much exactly the same.

Still, I felt good after completing HL2....

It's scary that maybe valve doesn't have such depth in their story. Maybe it's just the community making a helluva one with the bits from here and there. Maybe they have a really simple story and we are hyping up oursleves with fantastic tales and finds.

alyx may or may not die. personally, i believe that she got recruited by Gman also. i mean, gordon freeman got recruited by Gman cause he was gd with his crowbar. Alyx is gd with her gun so she gotaa be recruited, rite? And personally, i think barney shld get recreuited too. if he dosent Gman, is missing the oppurtunity of a lifetime!

Possibly his incentive is SAVING THE WORLD MULTIPLE TIMES. That's a nice thing to do and usually people with a conscience feel bad if they had the opportunity to SAVE THE WORLD and they didn't.

hehe, good point. we just dont know if it was intended that players need to "discover" the whole "plot" only with a few hints, or if the guys at valve are just plain lazy when it comes to creating a good story...

considering the hype, especially the games story was a letdown for me. not considering the hype and comparing it to games like doom3 or farcry, its pretty solid <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I doubt they'd hire the famous writer Marc Laidlaw just to make a half-assed story and have the community think of the rest.

Half-Life and Half-Life 2 aren't very different... in fact, it's a very similar story, you're a pawn of some unknown guy with a suitcase.

That would actually be the smartest thing they could possibly do. Create an atomspheric, believeable world (check), drop a number of consistent morsels as core story tennets (check), and then leave it to the audience to make the details up. It works great for horror since the days of Poe, why not adapt it?

Well, I think Laidlaw definately knew what he was writing here. I think its more of a thing where if you were just along for the ride, you won't get much out of it. But when you search and try to figure things out, you get more and more out of it.

I don't think you do end up in a "statis field" at the end as previously mentioned.

I think it's part of the Mobius Continuum. It sure as hell looks like how the Mobius Continuum was described by Brian Lumley.

    Thats my 2 cents anyway...
