I played a game today on ns_nothing. The bots did indeed get 3 hives (although they got stuck underneath the elevators) Took quite a long time to finish them off, probably because my guys kept getting stuck. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> I'm impressed with how far the bots have come. Also, (I think this was mentioned before) the bots behave very oddly towards mines. The marines try to weld them, and skulks try to bite them.

I love bots. I played on my first bot server the other day and now I'm all excited to get home and start up my own bot server. Now, though, I am wondering if I was playing RCBot or not. If I was, can anyone tell me what version I was up against?
First of all, they were heckling me all the time. Anytime anyone died they said something. Second, the commander had these problems:
A) built everywhere in the map, usually not even near the marine start. (On ns_nothing) he built near the generator room.
b) did not spend team resources on buildings.
c) built outside the tech tree (he put up a prototype lab before the ip was done)
d) couldn't be evicted from the comm chair even when there were two-thirds real players on the team voting him out.
When I finally got into the command chair, the real other player left and so I was commanding two marines. They followed direction pretty well. Sometimes they would have trouble finding waypoints that were in the same room as them (they would go to a previous waypoint, I presume and then walk back to the new location). They had a TON of trouble with elevators. They couldn't be ordered to stand on one and so it took about an hour for them to get down to viaduct to stop progression of the hive. Fortunately, the team really couldn't stop them once they got down there and I was able to put up siege and siege the building hive. After that, I left the comm chair and took out the silo hive with a jetpack.
Is there a Linux version of the bots, and if not is there any work on getting any? Also, if anyone knows of a bot client that i can run on my dedicated linux server, i'd appreciate it.

I am starting to go insane over here. Is there anyway possible you can give me an estimated time you will have the completion of the BOTS for my linux server's? I would also like to request any ideas from the people out there that are obviously smarter then i. I use to play on a TFC and CS server that had BOTS. I understand there used to be a program, that automatically added and removed the bots based on the # of real players on the server! Say you have 5 bots playing and a human joins, it goes to 6 players. It does this and keeps 5 bots on the server until the # (that you preset) reaches lets say 10 players on the server. (5 being BOTS, and 5 being humans) then a 6th person joins. You would think it would go to 11 players. Well it doesnt it goes back to 10, by removing a BOT. It does this over and over again until all the bots have been replaced by humans. meaning the server is still at only 10 players but all the bots have left. Now that all the bots have left, the server now continues to gain in players until it reaches its max # of 18 real human players! I may be a total idiot, this may be something you folks will look at and go, is this guy for real?<!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> I do not claim to be a computer wizzard, i am just curious if this program is still out there or if it is something that is not capable of working with these new mods? So please dont Flame Up, i would just like some serious answers to some serious (at least in my mind) questions. I would just like to say thank you in advance to anyone out there that can set this straight for me. And also to cheeseh for all the time you have put towards these BOTS, and hopefully to your reply to this post. Thnx alot Proph!

NOTE: The metamod loading procedure has changed back to the old method , i.e. using the +localinfo method. ( hl.exe -game ns -console +localinfo mm_gamedll dlls/rcbot.dll )

added : Marines attack offense chambers before attacking other structures added : ONOS and FADE Aliens attack turrets before other structures added : all aliens except gorge attack sieges before other structures added : Marines dont waste ammo on fighting structures that dont attack them (they will knife them instead)
changed : no longer loads Metamod automatically (there were bugs doing this) You will need to use "+localinfo mm_gamedll" method (read readme) changed : waypoint extension to .rcw (can still load .wpt file if .rcw file doesn't exist)

i downloaded your bot, and used the little .exe install but i can't get the botmenu or addbot commands in game to work.
I had the bots working fine like 2 weeks ago, but deleted my NS directory so i reinstalled the bots but now i can't get it to work for some reason.
I first tried to install the bata version, like .29 or something... but gave up and installed the current one.. .24 i think. Everything said it worked fine, but in game it does nothing...
NM i got it working... <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

Anyway, I took over comm and secured maintenance and the siege nook just outside CC. I sieged away CC hive and then like 3 gorges sat around spitting at the empty hive location in CC. I figured that was the alien equivalent to the marine ritual of knifing the hive. Equally funny.

i am new to the bot, and i run the 0.29 (i will get the new one now)
but i am a advanced user g33k
a few things about the bots though>>>
they build factorys in walls - that you can't get to, such as hera - out side the main door at marine spawnm (the one that goes out side), they put a cc, and a tf
also when you comm, the bots are still to low on ai, to run around and find things, ns_11th_hr13 (the first map i played with em) you HAVE to comm, and tell them to move to a way point close to them, once the get to that way point you have to move them to a nother close way point
you can't just say goto way point cc (ecylpis), and expect them to get to it

I do not claim to be a computer wizzard, i am just curious if this program is still out there or if it is something that is not capable of working with these new mods? So please dont Flame Up, i would just like some serious answers to some serious (at least in my mind) questions.
I would just like to say thank you in advance to anyone out there that can set this straight for me. And also to cheeseh for all the time you have put towards these BOTS, and hopefully to your reply to this post. Thnx alot Proph!
EDIT: Removed guessing to prevent confusion...
hehe
Cheeseh's bot supports autoadding til full I think
Dunno about autoremoving
And it dosen't support autoadding anything under max players<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Experts agree, you shouldn't post unless you know what the hell your talking about.
From rcbot.cfg:
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--># Remove the comments on the 2 lines below to support a minimum and maximum
# number of bots running on a dedicated server. Bots will be added to the
# server until the total number of players (bots and humans) reaches the
# max_bots value. Each time a new player joins the server, a bot will be
# kicked from the server unless there are only min_bots number of bots
# currently on the server. After players disconnect from the server, bots
# will be automatically added back to the server until the total number
# of players reaches max_bots again. You should make max_bots be AT LEAST
# one less than the maxplayers value (otherwise no one will be able to join
# your server). Also These MUST be set on a dedicated server for the bots to
# work
#min_bots 1
#max_bots 4<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd--> Its all there for you prophecy, just wait for the linux version (probably before 2004... well, probably <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> )
NOTE: The metamod loading procedure has changed back to the old method , i.e. using the +localinfo method. ( hl.exe -game ns -console +localinfo mm_gamedll dlls/rcbot.dll )
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->
fixed : bug with crash on many custom maps (maps without locations in titles.txt).
fixed : auto-jumping and auto-crouch code.
added : gorges don't attempt to attack marines that don't see them.
added : gorges don't attempt to attack sentries, but attempt to dodge them
added : Marines attack offense chambers before attacking other structures
added : ONOS and FADE Aliens attack turrets before other structures
added : all aliens except gorge attack sieges before other structures
added : Marines dont waste ammo on fighting structures that dont attack them (they will knife them instead)
changed : no longer loads Metamod automatically (there were bugs doing this)
You will need to use "+localinfo mm_gamedll" method (read readme)
changed : waypoint extension to .rcw (can still load .wpt file if .rcw file doesn't exist)
bugs remain : auto-waypointing is too buggy, don't use it yet!

i downloaded your bot, and used the little .exe install but i can't get the botmenu or addbot commands in game to work.

I just played a .29 test 2 game on Eclipse, and the marines all ran out of the base and ran to maintenance where they stood in a circle attempting to knife the hive location that they couldn't reach. It was great, because the hive wasn't even at that location. Very funny.
Anyway, I took over comm and secured maintenance and the siege nook just outside CC. I sieged away CC hive and then like 3 gorges sat around spitting at the empty hive location in CC. I figured that was the alien equivalent to the marine ritual of knifing the hive. Equally funny.
Apparently I downloaded before this bug was fixed <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
That said, great work Cheeseh. They've got their bugs, but hey--don't we all.

lol
Smart bots that don't kill Metamod!!! Bots that don't take 3 minutes to read in the waypoint files!!! Bots that won't all go gorge!!!!!!!!!
You ROCK!!!!!
If you wanna check on em and see how they're doing, I am now running the latest test bots on the Playpen (IP address in sig file)
Thank you SO very much!
They are great for practice, because you can practice being a Gorge or the Commander, and not get yelled at for being a n00b. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
They seem to work well; they can find their way around, build well, attack, etc. Keep up the good work! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
i'm new to this bot. should i go for the beta download or the 'standard' one?
but i am a advanced user g33k
a few things about the bots though>>>
they build factorys in walls - that you can't get to, such as hera - out side the main door at marine spawnm (the one that goes out side), they put a cc, and a tf
also when you comm, the bots are still to low on ai, to run around and find things, ns_11th_hr13 (the first map i played with em) you HAVE to comm, and tell them to move to a way point close to them, once the get to that way point you have to move them to a nother close way point
you can't just say goto way point cc (ecylpis), and expect them to get to it

I suggest you use the latest beta version since there are lots of fixes.
I've said bot commanding is crap, and I haven't been working on it and I won't unitl 1.1 is released since 1.1 should allow easier commanding written in code <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
I'd suggest you turn bot commanding OFF for now.
The bots don't know where the thing is you want them to build yet, they just search for it in the list of things they can see, if they can't see it they run around until they do... <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

Probably because there are no waypoints for that map <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> Don't use auto-waypointing either, I've noticed it's become very buggy in the latest 'beta'...

PS>>> I am also working on a german text converison, i might try another lang, but at the moment , english and german conversions seem to be best
PPS>>> I am also builing a self installer, if you want me to make it public then let me know, it uses win raw, so its smaller then zip, and also has less of a problem installing
will put commanding on, I put the default to off, since they arent the best at commanding yet anyway.. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
I don't know about the new dedicated servers. They should work, only client updates should affect the bots.
Is there anyone out there that are using the bots with the new Half-Life Ded Server 4.1.1.1?
Cheese, could you test the bots with the new ded server so I would know if it's just me.
TIA
