Wow: Should I Bother At All?

(good or bad)
For a while now the word 'WOW' has caught my attention.
Ever since last year in fact when it spread around like wildfire.
So I decide to look into it this year, and I find contrasting things...
Some people who have played WOW say it is very very good, and it's also one of the cheapest P2P's out there. (and apparently has an easy payment system, and low minimal requirements)
On the other hand, people on the WOW Europe forums say that at the moment the level limit is 60,and that this is too easy to reach, and that the game is boring for a hack n slash MMORPG. (possibly cos of this, then they all started sucking up to D2)
My question is: I am considering spending £30 quid on the game tomorrow for the free 1-month subscription trial in the standard box. Is it worth me then going P2P on this game,or should I just ignore it completely?
Edit: (bump bump)

my actual answer is drop the 30 on it. After all, homany games have you played for more then a month?
if you still like it at the end of the month drop some more cash on it
I've purposefully resisted temptation to get the retail copy though because if I did I may as well cancel my mod. :P
I lost mine though.
An amazingly fun game, but it depends on your taste. I hope my retail will arrive tomorrow.
If you're new, it's the best game to start on. If you're not, don't bother.
I tried Anarchy Online, got bored after 3 days
I tried WoW, got bored after 3 hours
So I would say Nein. But then again, I don't like MMORPGs
you have GOT to be kidding. SWG was awful . i could grind out 1 class in a DAY if i tried, there were TONS of bugs, and nerfs everyday...don't even bother with SWG it had the potential, but was never turned into a great game.
anyway, WoW is awesome, i suggest you drop the 30 and try it , everything is very balanced out although you may not read on the boards. the only complaint i would have against WoW is theres a bit too much solo play, i mean sure you group with people but their just random people with the same quest you have to do and you probably will not see them again.
my character is at lvl 42 and i haven't played in 2 weeks, i guess i kinda got bored or just need a break.
Though, MxO is coming soon, and also kicks ****. I'm soon gonna have to decide(everyone, get in on the Stress Test going on now, it kicks ****, I promise!)
Anyone here on the "Earthen Ring" server?
Well I wrote a bit more there then I meant to, oh well.
P.S. Be horde: we rock.

A winner is you.
So I think I will 'drop the 30'.
What's MxO btw?
An overall positive YES! for WOW; having enjoyed Diablo's and Starcraft's and Warcraft's cartoon and humour, thank you for conning me onto it.
P.S: I was hoping to be a mage/priest. Which side has the better mage/priest? Apparently people flock to priests on WOW. Kinda like a WOW pimp then.
P.P.S: When it comes down to cases of PvP on a massive scale for future fun,I tend to pick the underdog.

The Matrix Online. Its really coming along nicely(I've been a beta tester for about 5-6 months), with great style and a pretty good gameplay. Its got potential, unlike WoW, which to me, seems to have gotten to the end of its line already in potential of really pushing the genre. Who knows.

Id have to agree there, in the start of closed beta I was sceptical about how the game was gonna turn out but iv been playing agein and its gotten much better. But still has a lot of bugs.
Oh yea what server you on Quaunaut?

Lets make a nice little chart. That is, a list, since this forum doesn't do charts.
Star Wars: Galaxies - An Empire Divided

Huuuuuge amount of land to explore

Completely customizable character creation

Real time space combat

Ability to run a business without having to fight

No set classes so you can switch professions whenever you want

Gigantic array of player craftable items

Entirely player run economies

Player made cities and houses

Decorateable buildings

Customizable armor color, skin color, hair color

Ability to change character's appearance

Gigantic array of emotes and facial animations

Amazing graphics which can scale up, up, up with your system

Admittedly, World of Warcraft has some neat quests.
I like FFXI the best though, the story gets insanely interesting once you've reached rank 6 and started Zilart missions or CoP missions. FFXI = takes lots of time and is best if this is one of the only games you play (seriously if you want to get far). WoW = Takes a lot less time than FFXI, you'll probably get far even if you play lots of other games (2-3).
FFXI: Want to get far or have fun would be an average of 3-4+ hours (everytime you play, unless you're just checking stuff).
WoW: Pretty much the same thing except probably 1 hour less spent per time played on ffxi to get far (and day).
And this is a fact about time.
Another thing about FFXI if any of you want to bother trying it, try to make as many friends as possible in the game, if you get the chance, ask them to be on your friends list.
I've also got a 25 Paladin on Eredar. Took me only 2 days to reach that level thanks to nice quest reward XP and very little ganking going on in the contested areas
WoW is fun. The emphasis is PVP, questing, and partying. No spending 10 hours on tradeskills, no arguing with others over house space, or trying to buy house space for absurd ammounts of cash (UO, anyone?). WoW is less an MMORPG, more like a Team Deathmatch action game when you read the endgame. I hate MMORPG's, and WoW is the only one I ever liked.
Since a lot of my friends are playing it, and I enjoyed the game for the little time I got to try it out, I am probably gonna purchase it at the end of this month, when I get my salary.
I am already subscribing for Planetside, but since I've finally found a job, I can probably pay for both.

thats just it, instead of leveling the old way you grind quests

How on earth can quests be considering a grind? By all accounts, Blizzard have finally fixed this one problem with MMORPGs: That missions were not worth the reward when compared to grinding random mobs.

World of Warcraft is huuuuuge. And seamless too, so thats a plus. You've got plenty to explore.
Females and males .. I'm sure you can differentiate between them at a distance, I know I can. Granted, there isnt as much character customization, but you get to chose from a fine array of hair, faces, and features, skin color, all your standard stuff. You wont be exactally like everyone else..
Player items are very, very, very useful, because they're less expensive than vendors and they have many decent stats. Go into blacksmithing and when you get to a decent level, put all your things up on the AH. You'll make money.
Economy isnt out of whack at all. All MMORPGs suffer from people who sell things on line, which is what effects the economy most. Otherwise both SWG and WoW's economy are on par with eachother..
...who needs to own a building and arrange furniture? Go play the sims.
Yeah, your usually stuck with the same character forever until you make a new one. I dont see that as a massive issue.
Graphics are in tune with the simi cartoony and somewhat serious Warcraft Series. They dont need to be ultra realistic to be good looking, nor do we need awesome 1337 shadows. I think WoW's scenery is fantastic.
Get WoW! Dont listen to the SWG man!
-Epic mounts: Only 1 race has an epic mount that is substantially diffrent then it's normal ones appearance wise. This being the Undead mount, basically it's a skeleton horse with this blue smoke aura, aka: super cool looking. No other race has an epic mount even CLOSE to this. Most of them are just slightly diffrently tinted versions of their normals. And what really gets me is that blizzard has said they are going to redo them for MONTHS now. The thing is, reskinning these or slightly remodeling them, I could do in a week. It's not difficult at all, considering this is almost built completely off the WC3 engine.
-Some classes have really buggy abilities: Paladins have 2 abilities that are bugged in a way that make them better, much better in fact. Though I think blizzard fixed one of them. The one that is still broken though is: Seal of command. It is supposed to increase attack speed yet decrease damage. So that you have the same DPS except you attack faster. Except that there's an error that causes you to hit for MORE then usual with an increased attack speed, basically making you into a killing machine. Or the hunters aspect of the hawk is bugged so that occaionally it takes AWAY attack power. Just to list a few
-Huge lack of high end content: Really nothing to do past level 50 or so other then grind and kill noobies. There are like 2 high end instances.
-Hunters talent tree sucks. As our reward for dumping 30 points into our BEST talent field, we get Trueshot aura. The most useless ability ever. Oh yeah I can spend 600 mana(see: half my mana pool) to get a +30 attack power to me and anybody close by in my party. Now this might be nice, if 30 attack power was ANYTHING. +30 is like +2 dmg. Nothing. Not to mention you have to keep recasting it each 1/2 hour. Same with spirit bond. for dumping 30 points into beast mastery I get to spend 300 mana to regen a bit of health when my pet attacks FOR 10 SECONDS.
-How everybody seems to chose the same combination of class/race: Oh hey look ANOTHER night elf hunter, oh look his name is just another form of Legolas! How original! Or look another dwarf paladin! Or perhaps a troll rogue! A gnome rogue warlock! That's new... not. Female human priest! Wow I've never seen that one! Tauren shaman! You must be the first!
Comon be more original people.

Well, if you keep giving them money for WoW, then they will be less inclined to make a second Starcraft game. By the way, they could make a ton of cash by simply selling any crappy game with the name "Starcraft 2" attatched to it.

Can you say "User Unfriendly"?
I've played over a dozen MMOs, and that one, for User Friendliness, is *by far* the worst. No contest.
And Madman: I'm on Algorithm for MxO, and my main for WoW is on Crushridge. "Dramora"
