I think nations can mix. But it works like this: Someone makes a battle. People join. They split in to teams. The teams fight. The last team standing wins.
Name is Hazel... no idea how to switch servers, but the one I'm on .. the one without a flag next to it (?) has a huge battle ground on, 80+ people are going to be there. And its filling up -fast-. look for the game "massive" out in the northwest sea!
Get used to using manual. The auto aiming mount allways has horrible + accuracy and detect radius, and at long range it's terribly inaccurate. That said, remeber to make good use of the gunnery keys:
w s = Angle up and down.
a d = turn currently selected mount(s) port and starboard
q e = Both mounts align to port and starboard. Valuable for focusing all your mounts on one target.
z = Activate fore mount(s) only.
c = Activate aft mount(s) only.
x = Activate and fire all mounts.
So, how do you use all these keys? CHoose a side. Turn on AFS (quick turning). align your mounts to that side using Q or E. Make sure that the crossing angle isn't too steep - idealy the lines should be on top of each other near the middle of the guide. Turn off AFS. When the ship comes close, make sure to hit X, then use wsad in order to aim and fire at the enemy ship. If either turret gets pulled out of sync due to a bad turn, use Z or C to align it again, or you can use a combination of Q and E. You can also keep the AFS on for aiming, then hold shift for fine aiming while adjusting your angle - which works very well.

you guys got any tips for torpedos? I can for teh life of me get them to their intended target (usually they are released soon enough or the correct angle).
Torpedos do NOT home in this game, and can not be steered as far as I can tell. To use torpedos, you will need
1. A torpedo mount somewhere on your ship. If you want a low level torpedo-boat, the frigate.02 has two "t" group mounts that can take a torpedo tube.
2. Level 4 sailors. For each sailor position, you need one level 4 sailor group. Higher level mounts need more specalized sailors. For the very first mount, however, you need level 4 groups.
Load the torpedos and mounts as per usual, then take to the seas.
Press "T" to choose your T group mounts. Note that you have the aiming radius of nothing, so you'll have to run head-first into the enemy to get a good line on your torpedos. I reccomend setting the switches on the shell console to "fast" in order to get the maxium speed from your torps unless you are going to fire blindly into an enemy group. Now, you need to lead the torpedos so they will hit your target. You also need to be far enough away that the torpedos arm before they hit the enemy ship. This is hard. Either pick an enemy occupied with somthing else, or shoot blindly into a pack of enemies. Like I said, even one direct hit will score you a load of damage. Now, plink away with your two gun mounts until you load, and repeat.
EDIT: An even better torpedo boat is upgrading your DD.01 to a DD.02. You even get the FOUR gun mounts of a DD1 and some extra armour. The problem? You are slow as snot. I perfer my ship. A little flimsy, but good strong guns and speed which allows me to run, intercept, and broadside with great efficency.
I have 4 guns, but only 2 work ....
NSN_Suitez. Level 1 Frigate. (Natural Selection Navy 4 the win) Manual aiming is tough,I didn't realise there was an auto aim and it took me 30 mins to figure out how to change the gun range. Still,nicely done. Now I have even more reason to celebrate scoring a hit on the enemy. Even if it's only once a battle.

Unfortunatly the game has a serious crash problem
the 100+ ships games are fun too 50 vs 50 goin at each other... such a beautiful sight.
Several of the moderators made several free xp+credit games yesterday. They took the biggest ships they had and let 50+ destroyers wail on them. Saw a battlecruiser for the first time. Man that things huge, and everyones guns were doing less then 10 damage to it. With 20000 hitpoints, it took awhile.
Redford, not sure about your setup or even if you can change keys, but Y changes to B ammo for cannons, with T changing to torpeadoes. At least for me anyway.
Personally, I wouldn't bother with a single tube launcher. Chances of hitting are slim. Best off waiting till you can get dual or triple tube launchers. This way, you either wreck several ships, or at worst, break up an enermy formation, allowing you and your comrades to focus fire on a few ships. Put it on wide movement as well.
Best advice I can give is learn to aim manually. Its more accurate, and gives you better reponse to enemies movements. I'd got too far with using auto to re-learn, and thus can be out-shot by a good manual user.
At what stage do you get to pick what server you are on? At the moment i have created my ship (god bless HMS Liverpool) and played the training mission. Do you pick your server later on, or have i accidently skipped through it among all the confusion?
i find manual aiming is way too slow. with autoaim, you can rapidly click to update your target location, and with tda on your weapons aim super fast. you lose accuracy, but sometimes spamming shells gets you a lot more hits than manually having to adjust weapon angle, pan, AND steer your ship at the same time. i don't see how manual is better than mouse aim.

I need to learn how to use manual aim. :/
EDIT: Strangely, I have the sudden urge to make a ship called the "Jim Dandy."
Yeah, they have four different nations that you can join once you've got a sailor at level 12. The US, the UK, Japan and Germany. They each have different ships with different specialties.
