<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--> At today’s ‘Walk of Game’ event, SEGA of America unveiled the first public announcement that they would be publishing a brand new Sonic the Hedgehog title for unspecified platforms in Q4 2005. Currently entitled Shadow the Hedgehog, the new title focuses heavily on Shadow, the ‘ultimate life-form’ created by Dr. Robotnik.
In what seems to be following a similar style of gameplay as the Sonic Adventure series, Shadow the Hedgehog will enable Shadow to carry around a gun and shoot objects and enemies in the surrounding environment. Exact details about the game’s story, characters and gameplay have yet to be confirmed, although the trailer does pose the question, “Hero or Villain?”, and then soon after, “You decide.”. As of now it looks like gamers will unravel the mysterious story behind Shadow’s heritage, however, your guess is as good as ours at the moment.
No specific details were given as to what consoles Shadow the Hedgehog will be featured on, however, it’s a good bet that a Gamecube version is a given, as well as a possible PS2 release. Expect to hear further details on Shadow the Hedgehog in May at E3 2005, or even sooner.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Hmmm...wasn't expecting this one.
/edit: It's on gamespot.
And <a href='http://www.1up.com/do/download?cId=3138745' target='_blank'>here's</a> a trailer. WTH there's guns?

I gun looks bigger than his entire arm.
You know...I like that engine to tell the truth.
But the problem is the guns. You don't put GUNS in a sonic game. Hell, I was mad when they put the double jump homing attack in.
While I agree that guns are a bad move, and that SEGA really must be dead for that to ever happen, the double-jump homing attack was a nessesary part of the conversion to 3d (which I honestly don't think was nessesary).
Hell, they should have brought Fang the Sniper/Nack the Weasel back if they wanted a gun using character. Instead of using the tool Shadow. Just giving him a gun so he can look "OMG KEWL LOLZ" It's just pandering to the fangirls/boys, pretty much.
And energy bars? What the hell?
"Redefining games for a decade"
Lets face it, sonic NEVER did that.
Mario pretty much defined platformers in both 2D and 3D.
Sonic was good in 2D, but failed horribly on its attempts to move to 3D.
Not to mention the first half of the trailer was just "OGM SONC RAWKS WER SEGA ND WE RAWK AND U LUV OUR GAEMS!11 SONIC HAS TEH ATTIDUTE AND SPEED AND STUFF AND WE RAWK FOR OVER TEH DECARDED!1"
Then when it finally gets to the part about the game, it sucks. Sucks hard. Leaving me asking how exactly is it not just another sonic game? Seriously, they should have at least modified Shadow to be less of a sonic recolour. I would have really liked to see him more of a gunslinger type character. Pistol of some sort, some light brown canvas cloak or cape... but instead I get Shadow, just as he has always looked, with some horribly preportioned SMG pistol crap thing.
(Disclaimer: If you like the game's looks, be my guest. But you'll have to admit that it really has nothing to do with the old Sonic games anymore.)
Nope, Nintendo just gives them a hose or a ghost vacuum. Wait....those concepts suck as well!

Bah. <3 Luigis mansion. There have been worse launch titles.
Doesn't that description fit the "Knuckles" character as well? Perhaps this is merely more of the same?
NO TOUCHING THE PRECIOUS.

That is, if gollum learned to stop walking on all fours, stop look like a decaying corpse and stop talking... entirely. (Sonic 3 Knuckes, not Sonic Adventures Knuckles.)

I liked Sonic Adventure, and I liked the levels in Sonic Adventure 2 where you played as sonic. But I hated the other levels (knuckles and tails levels).
I actually did like sonic adventure 2.
But I really hated the tails missions. Wow they sucked bad.
Yeah, Sonic Adventure 2 is cool. Except for the Knuckles / Rogue (is that her name?) and the eggman / tails levels. The emerald hunting levels done by Knuckles and Rogue are absolutely retarded, and the eggman / tails levels are really boring.
Once you get to the fast flying parts the game is fun.
But yeah, emerald hunting is terrible. The mech sections (Eggman/Tails) are fairly okay in comparison, though.
Would have preferred an E-102 gamma type thing though. Gamma was cool. Retarded looking mech suits are not.
Luigi's Mansion was awesome, no doubt.
What were so bad about the Tails Levels in Sonic Adventure 2? I didn't play 2 much.

Gamma was indeed great, his ending was awesome too. Was it "Epsilon" that was your brother who got constant upgrades and you had to keep fighting him? That ruled.

Tails = tails in a robot. You weren't really even a fox...you were just some guy in a robot suit. You were really boring to play.
Tails sucked, and I actually liked the treasure hunting levels MORE.
all the newer characters are lame, in my opinion. but i guess if they wanted to keep sonic making profit for them, they had to do something.
hell, the saturday morning sonic cartoon from 1993 had better characters than the modern ones.
sally, rotor, bunnie-rabbot, ect...

If Sega wanted to profit from Sonic, they would go back to making 2d Sonic games with the only secondary characters being Tails and/or Knuckles. You know, the ones that people actually <i>like</i>? Unfortunately, they're pulling this crap, probably to punish us for not buying enough Dreamcasts or something like that.

Not really, KTE was a good guy all along, he was just tricked by Robotnik that Sonic was going to steal his jewels.
Penny arcade puts it rather well:
"Sega has finally succeeded in stripping Sonic from Sonic games altogether with the advent of Shadow the Hedgehog. This dark anti-hedgehog now sports a firearm, a sentence I could not imagine myself writing before today."
Phantasy Star Online
Outrun2
Super Monkey Ball
Panzer Dragoon Orta
Rez
Why can't we just have more of these?
