I enjoyed the first one, but like Merkaba, the constant fireballs in the last level sent my computer down low performance creek. I was dealing with them for a while but the fact that one of the towns just kept losing its entire population and nothing I could do would bring it back just made me stop playing and I never finished.
I borrowed it for a few days last time, any idea if it'll run on modern systems? I might buy it since my newest computer can handle just about anything thrown at it.

i dont remember if it needed a XP compatibility mode
well, amazon says it works on xp, the min reqs don't mention xp but do say 2000. But that's for individual B&W and the expansion separately and I'm looking at the deluxe, maybe it has an update to assist there.
Ordered since it was pretty cheap and I want to relive a few years ago. I love games that give me freedom to create as I please.
edit: This is NICE! And if you read the little bit on it, this is simulated and not pre-calculated. And you can heat and cool lava, probably define a flow path right into the enemy town.
But I think I'll go peace my first time around. I'm a good boy.
Right, I am officially teh psychic. I was just yesterday thinking "Hmm, what happened to Black and White II?" and now this. So either i'm psychic, or I have a link to the forums via my brain. Either way, I shall shortly be leaving you all to pursue a career as one half of a crime-fighting duo.
Before I do however, I must just say that i'm glad I didn't buy the game for myself (borrowed off a friend, no juarez). I just got bored of micromanaging. If the creatures and citizens are a little more autonomous, I might consider buying this one... I mean... you had to tell your people to BREED in the last game. Their constant whines of "We need offspring!" got on my nerves. Sadly the ability to take on mortal form and go around impregnating young virgins was not implemented.
I must say though, disciple breeder would be the best damn job in the universe...
in terms of breeders, making women breeders and not men seemed far better. It would slow the rate of offspring and make expansion more manageable. (Women get pregnant and have to wait until birth before going through another round of the same, the men would just go around and impregnate the whole village)

Just make one disciple for each task you want them to do(ie, everything except forester, because they think it's the industrial revolution and will hack at the trees in a frenzied rush for MOER WUD that Jack would've been impressed by), and the other villagers should catch on. Might not expand much if you just make one breeder though.

Gameplay and length are things that are put into a game by the developers, not the players. Could you spend twenty hours on the first level? Sure. But that doesn't mean it had that much content.
The first level alone had a lot of quests if you can only have fun with a specific goal that was spelled out for you. After that it was all how you did it. The game had a great deal of content by itself and the quests really were there for everyone who just wanted to get in get out stop messing about... Impressing rival/neutral villages was tedious, there weren't that many ways to do it. Without the quests, it would have been a complete waste, imo; they at least offered something interesting to do. Level three showed that pretty nicely; there was only the yogi quest, IIRC, and it was so dull.
Maybe if someone else had made it, I would be more forgiving. But Molyneux should know better. This is the guy behind Populous and Syndicate.
If you're referring to me in the brackets, you're dead wrong. I like to make the most of games, doing every subquest I can; first thing I did after finishing KotOR was to go through it again, but aligned to the dark side. The truth is that there just wasn't much to play with in Black and White.

i just want to throw turds at the children -.-
this looks really nice though. i hope they've seriously upped the customizability.. you should be able to look REALLY different in terms of your villagers, your town, your tower, and your pet (kitty <3)

I never even got past level 1... I just wanted to play with my pet but the villagers kept bugging me and the combat system seems to reward constantly drawing stars so your creature just does special attacks all the time more than... well... anything remotely strategic really :o Clicking on your creature to make it dodge was sorta ironic because rather than dodging the badguy it did a great job of dodging my mouse pointer XD
Highlight of the game (before I stopped playing) was either when I taught my tiger I liked him doing the 'omg!!!' pointing emote and did it to his trainer (and then ate her halfway through the explanation of something before I realised what was happening :p ). Orrrrr... the time my villagers said some people were drowning so I sent my pet in. he rescued them, walked them out to the safety of the beach... then ate them XD When the woman who'd asked for my help started nagging at me for being evil I threw her in the ocean ¬.¬

Snidely, what's tedious about destroying an enemy village and setting everyone in it on fire?
