I talk to myself all the time, I wouldn't consider it another personality or anything, I'm using my mind to talk to my mind. The strange thing is I sometimes feel the need to say the stuff outloud to myself, even after saying it all perfectly clearly inside my mind. And I'm not just thinking out loud to figure out tough problems. It's just random stuff. And I repeat some of the things over a couple times for no apparent reason. And I know I'm not crazy, because nobody answers back. Sometimes my family will think I have friends over because I'll be talking at normal volume.

Meh, didn't read through the whole thread, but it seems to be fairly common. I have conversations in my mind with "another" person, arguing over stuff, and whatnot. Have for as long as I can remember.

In theory the number thing should work; he's just a sub-component of your own mind, so you're basically just giving yourself a number to remember. This number will be easier to remember, because you'll have the specific mental cue of having been talking to yourself (for now we will refer to him as "Mr Howdy").
Try, for example, staring at a specific object in your room, or doing a particular action and trying to remember a number. Now when you look at/do the action next, without even thinking about it, you'll remember that number. The human brain likes mental cues, its funny like that.
I think i'll try that myself, brushing my teeth is a good cue because its something I do every day, i'll report back with the results <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
