Weird. I've never heard of anyone who preferred the second to the first volume. I never watched the second on the recommendation of my brother in law, who made me sign a blood contract. This prevents me breaking my promise to him, on pain of pain.

meh, I liked both movies.
I find them compleatly hilarious, I don't know if they were suposed to be funny, but they fit right in my black sense of humor:)
About my preferring Vol 2 over vol 1...Volume 1 was just a boring action flick with a few good action scenes, where vol 2 had lots of great dialogue, character development, AND some awesome action. Not to mention the Kung-Fu dude in the past.
The second one didn't have as much action but the script was superb. The whole scene where Bill talks about Clark Kent as Superman as just mind blowing.
Volume 1 was an action flick but it was awesome, plain and simple. I love the anime scene, and I'm a person that can't even stand anime.

Kill Bill (1 and 2) are comedies in my mind...
they are not to be take seriously, they are to be enjoyed for the over the top action, the wonderful characters (no they are not fleshed out to the fullest, but each is geven enugh personality and background to make them realy interesting)....

The group who did the anime scenes in Vol 1 are easily some of the best modern animation companies ever. Production IG. Everything by them I've seen has impressed as much as Studio Ghibli animation, or as a singular example, Akira's animation.

If I could change it I would: Take out the beeping. They could have easily not ever said her name, and it would have been much better.
Re edit the music when she pulls herself into the truck. It just cuts off so freakin fast.... grr...
Take out the monologue at the start of volume 2... it just doesnt fit with her talking to the audience.... yea maybe it ties people in who havent seen volume one, but otherwise it was a waste.
I couldn't stand volume two, save for the Chinese guy (Pai Mai? Mai Pai?), who was totally awesome.
For me, Kill Bill is an action movie, and the first one is an awesome action movie, and I like action movies. The second one had way too much character development for me to care about considering the only reason the characters exist is for the action. They felt like two different movies that shared the same cast and setting.
BUT, you DO have to see the second volume, because that Chinese guy TOTALLY RULES.

I actually didn't mind the beeping. The first timeI heard it I thought it was some sort of glitch, then it happenned again and it made me laugh. It's just a part of Tarantino's humor.

I think it comes down to expectations... if you were expecting a serious film no wonder you were dissapointed. If you expected a funny, cheesy and over-the-top action flick with lots of style squirted ontop then they do well :3
Only bit that annoyed me was the bit in the board room in japan. Not sure what it was but the scene irked me. Otherwise it was all good :D
Just an over-hyped-steaming-pile of intriguing-yet poor-for-Tarantino bloodily violent horse faeces. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd--> Agreed.
I watched most of both movies, couldn't stand to watch all of either. Just absolutely terrible movies, not just in comparison to what I was expecting based on the public response, but in itself.
I don't know what you people see in it, but hey, if you can derive satisfaction from those piles of steaming crap, go for it. I'm not going to tell you not to watch it.
I enjoyed both movies quite a bit, but I did like the second one better like most people. And anyone who thought the first one was to be taken seriously when there were fountains of blood spraying out of people was mistaken.

And I love both volumes equally. They're both have a distinctly different feel, which is great in my book.
