I was wondering if anybody still has EARLY screenshots of natural selection. Like from the time when it was being made for a couple of months maybe... early level screenshots\models etc.
I think it'd be cool to see a comparision on how far its come :-P
you mean concept sketches, or actual in-game screenshots? For screenshots, you can just download and install NS 1.04, take your own...can't help you with concept sketches, though i know theyre out there
omg that's so old I don't even remember ventilation being like that. It's not that old. There were a LOT of us around during those days. There are screens from MUCH older releases.
Eclipse was so fun back in those days. It still is, but you know, for nostalgic reasons. And Hera... Marine bases would always be different back with the raised commchair.
Devs usually don't like to release REALLY old stuff, but I'd still love to see it. Most people came into NS around the 1.04 era, so this stuff doesn't really look that weird. It's the NEW stuff that looks weird. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Posted on old ns site. 8/17/01 taken from article reporting on the very first play test of ns.

Aside from a really awful bug (that of course, never showed it's face prior to last night) where every time a game ends, most of the people get kicked off the server and the host has to create a new game before anyone can connect again (grrrr), everything went "according to plan". OK, it didn't really go according to plan, but everyone seemed to have a great time. It was four marines versus four aliens most of the night and the matches were a blast to watch. Nothing is funnier than waiting for more ammo or a new weapon and watching two huge ugly aliens come rampaging in the room. They groan and scream like evil hippopotami (!) and mow you down with their huge teeth. The most common reaction was to run away backwards, screaming at the top of your lungs. 10/31/02 - It's 12:00 midnight. What a wonderful moment, when time stopped, and I realised the best modification to any game or engine had just been released. It was, like, Christmas... but on Halloween.. with aliens.
All of it! Before my time <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
In a somewhat surprising move, the Natural Selection team has announced today that they are removing the aliens from their upcoming "humans vs. aliens" mod, Natural Selection. "We've decided to drop the aliens and focus more on the realistic, squad-based tactics of the marines. People want realism. No one wants aliens. Just look at how many people are playing Counter-strike. Now look at how many people are playing Aliens vs. Predator. Honestly, I don't know what we were thinking."
"This is a team decision, and everyone on the team feels like it's the right thing to do. They were really delaying the release date, and frankly, they're a huge pain in the ****. I think I speak for the community when I say, I never want to see another xenoform, slime-mound or hive-thingie ever again."
But what will fans think of this?
"I think they'll understand. Most people didn't want to play aliens anyways, they complained that the marines were going to be too powerful with their rifles and phase gates, so I don't think anyone will really mind. By the way, have you seen the recent numbers for Day of Defeat?"
News update: April Fool's! <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
As we prepare for our summer release, the team is madly running around trying to finish stuff up. Given the recent outburst of forum posts about the game's progress, here's a quick summary of the work that's left to do.
Design and balance: 95% done This will continue to evolve, but is essentially good enough as it is. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

There's also a picture on (if I remember) a HL map? It was a commander view and marines had a blue circle around them.
OH SNAP HELLA OLD SKANKY NS PICTURES! :D Oh man those are so retro it cracks me up. WELDER FLAMETHROWER TRIPMINE NUKES FOREVER.
Old Eclipse marine start was a cool setup. It worked with the game back then. I think. Did the doors provide balance back then? It's been too long for me to remember much either.
I heard about this game from nerd friends not too long after it had been released. At the most maybe the first week or two. There was this server. Ummm... Redphive. I don't know. That's where I went as a nub for NS. Then later I came to the website and started posting on the forum regularly.

Who else remembers the hell marines had because of chambers everywhere in 1.0? Looks like pre 1.0 had the same problem but a bit worse <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> [EDIT]I wonder if Greedo is pointing out the amount of chambers too.
I liked the chamber spam in the old days. Gave more of an impression of an alien infestation, rather than some isolated aliens running around chewing on things.

Lets have children Merkaba.
Can anyone explain the old interface icons in the 1st pic. the one with the nuke and "you just got points"
did the welder really look like that. i assume that 1.x gl was already determined, so did the hmg really look like that other thing?
what about medpaks? what about the icon between the ammo and the 1.x gl, WTH is that?
