if you take cara over regen, you go attack once, then you have to metabolise for 30 secs to regain all your health and armor. regen + meta means you can fully regen all health and armor in about 15 secs. being able to attack more frequently is better than being able to take more damage

I use cara more nowadays, but its only because there's usually a DC or gorge near me.

If it was, saaayyyyyyyy, three months ago, I'd be using regen.

It really depends on where you're fading. If the aliens are losing, I'll most likely get cara, because I will most likely be defending a hive against a marine rush/siege, and the dcs/hives/meta combo is more than enough to heal me quickly. If I'm on the attack, taking down electrified rts/turreted up hives/doing runs at the advanced armory, I'd rather get regen, because there's just no other way to heal. And I always hate running away from a fight with like 100 hp, getting halfway to the hive to heal, then getting surprised by one random rambo <!--emo&::marine::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/marine.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='marine.gif' /><!--endemo--> (That's another reason why sof is good as a fade).

My biggest problem with fade is tapping blink. And running into corners of things, or getting my legs tripped up on a turret, marine, whatever. I used to run out of energy a lot less with the old adren. Also annoying to catch jetpackers with fade... You have to blink switch weapons mid-air, concentrate on the jper, watch your health, and hit the jper mid air while still trying to stay in control, and you have to be really good at where to blink to to hit a jp.

And theres the fact that its 50 res and very fragile late game.

No Script will ever replicate what a good fade can do with slot1-4 + lastinv... The only script worth a damb in that regard is binding mouse3 to alias single "+attack; wait; -attack; wait" so you can better manage your energy as celerity fade. (I also believe that some people bind a MWHEEL to +attack for the same purpose)

I find the hardest part of fading to be watching my health meter.... you already have to watch so much, it can sometimes take me off guard how much damage good marines can inflict sometimes solo, while other times you can blink through cascades of bullets essentially unscathed.

I need like a bright red hud or something that gets brighter when I have less health.

My 2 biggest problems with fading have always been energy conservation and swipe accuracy. I have a bad habit of going into a fight with less than half energy which is part of the problem, but what really kills me is when I panic while trying to retreat and waste any remaining energy that I have. If I make a mistake in my escape path I'm at the mercy of whoever is shooting me. When I actually attack a marine I find myself often missing while the marine is dodging around. This makes me swipe more than i should have to and wastes precious energy that I need for blinking away. Recently I found that "zoning in" on the target marine before even blinking in seems to help with this. By that I mean really focusing on that one marine.

Weapon switching is never a problem for me and I believe it has alot to do with the way I have my weapons bound. Most players seem to use their left hand for movement AND weapon switching. This usually means that a finger that would normally be operating a movement key needs to be sacrificed to change weapons. Although it is only for a split second, it can make a huge impact on a player's performance while trying to manuver. What I have done is moved my weapon switching to my mouse. I have mouse2 bound to slot1, mwheelup bound to slot2, mwheeldown bound to slot3, and mouse4 bound to slot4 (if you are wondering my mouse3 is already taken up as my ventrilo bind). Try to imagine this configuration in your head. Basically it separates the tasks of movement and weapons to the left and right hands repectively. It makes sense not to let one of your hands have most of the responsibility. You could do the same thing by having lastinv bound to a mouse button but I prefer direct selection. Lastinv needs to be "setup" in advance. With my config I go right to the weapon I need. Also if you dont use hud_fastswitch 1 you simply will not be able to play this game well. It's like trying to drive a car without a steering wheel.

    Its rather simple.
If you are a sole hive defender fade, you will have plenty of regen and thus cara is a good choice.
If you are a field fade regen allows you to engage combat more often and to use blink swipe more effectiv. With regen, even as a two hive fade you are simpley put "more active" than a cara fade.

Correct me if i am wrong, but didnt terror use to go DS during b4 and b5 just because their fades rockt pretty hard with regen and focus?

A fade needs a huge amount of situational awareness to survive. If they make one mistake in their escape route, their energy left, their range to the marine, their armor/health level, their attack route, their currently chosen attack ability, their target groupings, even the weapons of the marines they're going against they're minced.

    Savant mes ami,

You know I can Fade, but I concur with Kwil. It's the fact the poor soul has to be mentally aware (and not just aware, but processing!) this information whenver he is within LOS of a marine. It's a failure to do this that gets them killed.

    That & being Jesus with blades for arms. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

EDIT : In answer to the chamber point....

Regen / Celerity / SoF. Every time, unless we're dealing with large groups and the skulks are parasiting, in which case Focus gets wheeled out.

I'm good at fade but here's what bothers my noodle ...
    __ ____
F
^
\

M M M

F is the retreating fade and Ms are hte marines. Fade retreats, hits a pillar or some other obstruction, marines waste fade as he comes in and as he screws around the obstruction.

On a sidenote ... never attack when you are below 100 armor ... ever. Meta/regen/retreat to hive/find a gorge. Even if you killed two marines you have no idea if a marine just caught up and has that dreaded shotty. Oh yeah, if the marines have shotties never attack from the front. Always come down, from behind, or from the side. Also here's a good pointer.

    M M M
    x N x N x N x

The X is where you should blink. The N is where you shouldn't blink. Blink inbetween two marines since chances are one of them will not be able to dodge and the marine to the left will fire into the center marine.

When the marines have shotties/HMGs you should always blink to the marine to the farthest end. This is because the two other marines will fire a large amount of bullets/pellets into the marine being attacked.

You shouldn't blink into a marine because all his bullets will easily hit you and the other two marines will have a good angle at you.

If you blink into a group of marines with a good angle, blink up, blink down at an angle (usually wherever your exit is.) and maybe swipe a marine.

IF you get blocked the number 1 problem is fades trying to blink passed him. I've found more success from swiping down the marine while crouched and knocking him away from my exit.

Oh yeah ... always tappy the attack key and shift directions a little bit. If you are blinking low to the ground press crouch while doing so.

but yeah ... pillars suck. Hope you like the advice.

Actually, you should blink like this, if you can:

    xxxxxxx
    xMMMMx
    NNNNNN

The marines are facing downwards in this diagram. This way, you'll either hit them from behind, so they can't shoot you easily, or the marine on the right or left will block his buddies.

If you get blocked, the hold crouch and blink upwards at a 45 degree angle. You'll pass over the heads of the marines and hopefully around a corner. Almost all doorways and rooms are tall enough for this to work, although it might get you killed if the ceiling isn't flat.

Fade requires pretty fast reflexes - example:if u blink into a room with 5 rines then u will probably die unless u r out of there ASAP

Also requires a lot of skill to blink round a corner to a moving rine, hit him, then blink out again before he or his mates get a few shots off with their sgs.

Additionally, you always have to be aware of ur energy and, with 1 hive, keep a clear path to the nearest hive/gorge
