    the site seems to be down at the moment, but do they actually have a full length trailer out now or just the 2 they had from the super bowl that showed a group of people standing on the street that get blown away?

    See, this is the problem with HL2. Striders will overshadow whatever they've come up with for this and ruin it for me. Thanks a lot Valve. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    No it's not - it's shifted to a modern America setting. Screw that - wait for the <i>other</i> WotW movie, due this month (apparently - I'll believe it when I see it), which keeps the Victorian setting.

    poo sorry i thought it was anyhow you cant expect movies to be done to book they never are i mean who would of thought harry potter wold turn out to be such a gimp in the movie.

    Only trouble with that one is it looks like a non big budget.

    Still sorry bout that i heard it was <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    There have been three 'big budget' productions based on Wells' theme so far: The radio play, the first movie out of the fifties (the scenes in which people gather for a picnic to watch the nuclear explosion are hilarious), and Independence Day. Let's see whether Spielberg will be able to bring something new to the table.

    @Nem:

    Was <i>Independence Day</i> based on Wells' book in some way? I just thought it was adapted from what was originally going to be the sequel to <i>Stargate</i>.

    Also, don't forget Jeff Wayne's musical of <i>War of the Worlds</i> <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    seems like it may be a bit of a let down, kinda like Godzilla and Independence day feel to it. Anyone want to bet that good ol tom cruise will find an old love in the end of the film and than the bad guys die and the world will turn out all peachie

    Independence day doesn't have anything much in common with the book I read...

    I have to say this version looks much more interesting.

    As far as the Speilberg-Cruise version, I'll be looking forward to see how Global Warming and Fast Food caused the aliens to target Earth for destruction.

    HAVEN'T YOU HEARD ABOUT THE MEN FROM THE STARS?

    Since they don't actually show any aliens in the trailers, I'm going to assume that they replaced them with terrorists.

    Click on trailer, and look at the backdrop with the lightning in the sky, thats pretty nifty. I would love to have that without the writing as my background. Meh, it will probably be mildly entertaining and i will therefore watch it.

    i didnt see a single walker in the two teasers of the spielberg production!
    and the whole flipping film is about walkers, i would only watch it for the walkers, so meh <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Again let me say : the film builds up to them if you say a film about say a fingin gorge and you saw gorge at the start kind makes the rest of the movie poo
  • PithlitPithlit Join Date: 2003-05-07 Member: 16120Members, NS1 Playtester, Constellation
    there can never be enough gorges in a film <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
    same goes with walkers

    I've never actually read the book, but judging from the radio play and the musical (both of which i've heard quite a bit), Nem was referring to this, which is common in both films:

    Aliens trash their home planet (remember the president in ID4 saying about how their entire species moves from planet to planet, stripping it's resources and moving on), move on to earth, stomp the **** out of human resistance, and then it gets a bit different (with your basic patriotic "we will not stand down" garbage but basically all Humans go into hiding) and then it ends, not through force of arms, but a virus.

    Yup, it's why Alien and Aliens were such good movies.

    I think, from the trailers, that this looks pretty good. I'll go to see it.

    I saw the trailer for this a long time ago and have been pumped about the movie. I cant wait to see the walker type thingys there going to have.

    And if you look closely on the Teaser trailer 2 when there on the water in the boat and its getting knocked over, you see something big shadowed in the waters behind it. im going to go look a little closer and try to get a better glimpse.

    Here you go:

    Coming soon!

    well, the original concept for the walker (wich i find mighty cool and stylish) is this:

    <img src='http://www.astrocentral.co.uk/martian3.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

    see?
    no arms and way longer legs

    Why do they always have to mess with the originals? why???

    PS: The thing is flipping huge, 80+ metres, with the legs even if they look like stils a diametre of 5 meters or so.
    Thats impressive, not this lame chubby robot in the water over there

    There concepts... They sometimes get bounced around and dont end up anything like planned.

    And the robit in the screen is a little ways in the background, so it may be pretty tall...
    We'll just have to wait and see I geuss.
