well, that concept is sort of the official artwork <img src='http://www.themovieblog.com/archives/warworld.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' /> wich made it even into the official pc game WotW <img src='http://www.motorpsychorealms.org.uk/spacedout/sswaroftheworlds.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' /> <a href='http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0002QNEX2/qid=1113340652/sr=2-1/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_1/104-4341628-3327130' target='_blank'>amazon game link</a>
it is the reality in that universe and they should respect it.
That would be like making a triangular stargate or a death"cube"

It would be funny to see that thin legged walker running around terrorizing a town, crushing people with ease. Everyones running, panicked. A few people shoot at it.

That thing would get its **** handed to it in modern combat, we would stomp them if that frail, inefficient, little thing was all they had.
I would expect it to be much more beefed up. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd--> It took the Thunderchild, which was the most advanced warship they had, to even remotely damage <b>one of them</b>, and then it got pwnt by another one. Nothing else could even dent it's armour (literally). Sure we have the tech to take on a few of them in combat now, but considering it's heat ray laser thing, one of them could easily take on 5 or 6 tanks (for example) on it's own, and I guess a nuke could take a few out, but they have more and then we've done a pretty good job of wiping ourselves out for them (since they were moving in the cities and areas of human population).
Then again, I guess some kids with a really strong rope (take it down AT-AT style) would do the trick.
Does anyone remember the "Mobile Oppression Palace" from the Futurama episode "Taste Of Freedom"? it's the one where Zoidberg eats the flag and then his race enslaves earth and builds that huge crab thing with a sandcastle on it.
Anyway, the thing from the trailer reminds me of that <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
*EDIT*
Sorry just listening to the musical again... 5 Artilery cannons firing at one of the machines pwn it, but then they in turn all get pwnt by the other 4 machines that were there before they can do anything else. It also seems that the machines do indeed have arms ("picking up men and bashing them against trees!" "they carried away the debris of the fallen machine" etc...).
*SecondEdit* I forgot how much the Thunderchild owns. I hope they recreate that scene well in the film. Rushing a load of unstoppable war machines to save a passenger ship that's evacuating civilians, even though you know you have no chance = pwn.
Wooooo :O My dad has the original musical for War of the Worlds on a vinyl. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I swear, they must be planning to use his body as a turbine to generate electricity for the city of Los Angeles as it spins in his grave...
