I'm pretty sure thats probably the maximum sentence and the judge will probably be to PO'ed about such a boring case he'll just give you a simple community service. Then you just do it again

Don't worry, you're not alone. In my country, we don't just make copyright infringement penalties harsher than involuntary manslaughter, we make copyright infringement penalties harsher than rape.

Oh MAN I totally misread this topic.

I thought the second I came in here I was going to get lambasted by people screaming at me saying that everytime I shared a file with another user a baby dies or something.

Christ. That took a few years off'a my life.

well although it's funny that pirating is getting harsher punishment than manslaughter, i think it's because there are SO MANY people out there guilty of illegal file sharing compared to a handful of people who are guilty of manslaughter. this also belongs in *gasp* discussion forum *cough*

But still though Kill4Thrill's, sharing files isn't accidently killing someone though. So if someone downloaded one song and is now sharing it they diserve 3 years in jail for it? Kinda stupied in my opinion.

well it'd be pretty effective deterent if they actually started jailing people in large numbers, wouldn't you agree? i would stop sharing files immediately...

but i wonder how long they would be able to keep it up until the jails run out of room. they aren't exactly high on vacancies right now

    Fixed.

It is stupid tho, recently is seems a lot of US legislation is to protect large companies, I mean you can accidentaly kill someone and get a less tough sentance than for downloading one song....

If you are on the stocks, invest into building companies now. If they want to go through with this, they need just about ten times the current prison space

Maybe a little more research would make this seem less of a surprise...

So, how does everything stack up?

    hypotetisk spørgsmål her,

lets say some 15 year old guy from denmark downloads music, what would the risk be and what would the fine be?

    just a hypo...hypho...hippotheatrical question.

If I remember correctly a similar outrage was expressed when people found out that the Janet Jackson scandal warranted a higher fine that that of detonating a nuclear device too close to a city.
