i liked Diablo 2 and am gettin kinda tired of gettin ganked in stranglethorn vale ( i think that my server alliance is kinda lazy, ive only seen one real raid thus far but the horde are pretty consistant it seems, could just be me though)

Alright, timing is everything - so are combos.
With combos, for instance, you can ignite your arrows for a set amount of time, and while that is on, you can use your 'dual shot' skill to fire two flaming arrows. (Just an example).
Timing is key, however - you got to know what to attack with and what to finish with, and you got to mix up your stragety for different opponets.

Alright. Last post - I am done reading the thread.
Please, no arguing - I mean, I just.. have a bad feeling about this whole thread getting- err, yeah.
Anyways, who cares if a game is twitched base, or button smashing, or hardcore pants-gravy real-time texture-groping strategy.
It all depends on what the player seems as fun.
Me? I hated WoW.
Don't get me wrong, I like Blizzard, and the WC universe interests me. (However, I'll admit that I wasn't a big fan of WC3).
Anyways, WoW bored me. It felt slow.. and washed out. I mean, the graphics were alright - but graphics do not define a game. Gameplay does. And WoW was lacking in that area.
Sure, there was lots of stuff to do - fishing, mining, etc. - but.. it just felt... barren, for some reason. Not enough action.
And another thing - (this goes for most/all MMOs) Monthly fees. Now, I understand why they do this - to run the servers and the employees and whatnot. But seriously, I have to pay full ticket price, then $10 every month afterwards?
Sure, thats not *that* much. (Well, in Canadian it is), but all of that adds up. And if I decide to stop playing that game (which most people will), all that money is down the drain.
It's like they are forcing you to stay and play.
Now, this is why I love GW - they are thinking outside the box. They want you to have fun, not to grind your levels like a madman. Slow down and enjoy the game! Explore a little bit - there are many secrets to uncover.
They had an ad back in PCGamer.. for GW.. it went something around the likes of this, "We believe a game should be designed about fun, not work." Well... something like that. You get what I mean.
Long story short - different strokes for different folks. This is not a fight for which game is superior.
Edit: Oh, and if you think they aren't working (updating) on the game anymore, due to no work incentive. (No monthly fees), check this out:
sid... no offence but from the window of time needed for comboing something like ignition arrows with dual-shot I really think you're stretching the envelope of 'timing' :/ Timing doesn't have to be twitch but it's good when it actually takes some sense of rhythm (the important part of timing is a sense of rhythm; you don't need one for GW). If someone with the reaction time and motor skills of a 1 month old baby can do it then its not timing to me :p
I've also already tried it so I'm not exactly taking stabs in the dark or guessing... I already know that I think the game is a pile of crud. No amount of 'convincing' will work because I've already attempted to convince myself and failed miserable; I just don't like it. It's not involved enough. Well... it lacks involvement in the elements I find enjoyable might be a better way of saying it. It doesn't need fancy massive key combos, it doesn't need twitch timing, it doesn't need hyper action, GW just lacks certain things I like. The only thing that would change it is to redesign the game.
Most of the points we argue will always come down to point of view anyways. Sid says GW has action WoW lacks; I find they both lack action I want. Quan and sid says it has timing, I think they're be generous with the word 'timing'. We have different definitions of what is 'enough' to qualify for things and sadly GW, for me, falls on it's face in all the important places while I'm sure for others it can be held aloft like some kind of shiny triforce.
I think it'd be best if you just enjoy the fact that you find it fun, because at the end of the day it's just not my kind of game and no amount of defending it will change that :3
edit: If you're wondering why I have such venom towards the game it's because I can already tell the following will happen (because it's happened many times before).
a) People will go on and on and on and on about how great the game is (no harm in being enthusiastic :3 ). b) With everyone saying how good the game is the idea will eventually (again) sink into my mind that "hey... maybe I missed something or didn't give it enough of a shot?" c) I'll find a way to try it out and despite my best attempts and many hours of forced play I'll find myself thinking "for hecksake this is still dull, boring and not fun". d) After a couple of weeks of chaining myself to the task of attempting to find the fun in a game I rather obviously don't find fun I'll scream in frustration and give up. e) Loop back to part a.
-.-
Generally if I don't find the game fun on my second go (I rarely try games I don't like just once; I often go off and listen to what people say, ask Qs and go back to try it a second time with a new spin on how I look at it) then it's a safe bet from my experience I'm still not going to discover something I like about it on the third, fourth, fifth or whatever shots. There's just sadly some games out there that satisfy the majority that don't appeal to me. Worst of all I'm not an 'indie' so I like to be involved in popular stuff so it usually ends up annoying me :p
If anyone thinks I went into the game looking for things to hate, it's actually the opposite. I went in being ready to be a total fan; I'd been advertising the game and it's open E3 event quite feverishly but it all turned sorta sour in my mouth when I actually got to try the game and realised as I played further... "hold on... I actually really don't like this".
I dunno... I probably would've loved it back in my earlier gaming days but my tastes have long since moved on. I used to like diablo and co and now I really find them dull. I don't play RTS games anymore either. Stuff just changes I guess :/

Timing is everything as a monk, Gem. Maybe thats where I'm getting it- too often, enemies in both PvE and PvP are doing damage so fast that you must anticipate when a team member is about to be attacked, and time it just right so it nullifies their attack without giving a chance. Strategic order also comes into play here.
...maybe its just me being a monk.
Sorry you don't like it Gem. <3

I also like how GW has multiple paths to an objective and such.
My whole team died off, and there was a bunch of Charr guarding the objective. I snuck over a hill overlooking thier whole camp and rained down at them from ahigh with a barrage of arrows. Good fun.
This game for me has become notorious for the precision of spellcasting. If i miss firing a spell in conjunction with another I probably (and usualy do) get a royal whooping. Team effort is all key to getting anywhere in this game, 1 person alone won't achive much later in the game when your specific skill set isn't as effective on all the enemies any more.
E.G. the devourers (scorpion things) I whoop the hell out of them with my fire spells, but now I'm further into the game my spells are becomeing obsolete against some enemies and i NEED someone with a diff spell set just to do any damage.
All in all, bloody good game if you got some one to play with, plus ingame the community is pretty nice as well, you'll always get your 1 sad git who wants to winge at everyone tho....

(No monthly fees), check this out:
http://www.guildwars.com/news/gameupdates.html
And, not only that - GW has a seamless update. You never have to log out and download a huge patch *EVER* again. The game is updated *as* you play it.
Timing doesn't have to be twitch but it's good when it actually takes some sense of rhythm (the important part of timing is a sense of rhythm; you don't need one for GW).
I think it'd be best if you just enjoy the fact that you find it fun, because at the end of the day it's just not my kind of game and no amount of defending it will change that :3
edit: If you're wondering why I have such venom towards the game it's because I can already tell the following will happen (because it's happened many times before).
a) People will go on and on and on and on about how great the game is (no harm in being enthusiastic :3 ).
b) With everyone saying how good the game is the idea will eventually (again) sink into my mind that "hey... maybe I missed something or didn't give it enough of a shot?"
c) I'll find a way to try it out and despite my best attempts and many hours of forced play I'll find myself thinking "for hecksake this is still dull, boring and not fun".
d) After a couple of weeks of chaining myself to the task of attempting to find the fun in a game I rather obviously don't find fun I'll scream in frustration and give up.
e) Loop back to part a.
-.-
Generally if I don't find the game fun on my second go (I rarely try games I don't like just once; I often go off and listen to what people say, ask Qs and go back to try it a second time with a new spin on how I look at it) then it's a safe bet from my experience I'm still not going to discover something I like about it on the third, fourth, fifth or whatever shots.
Stuff just changes I guess :/
...maybe its just me being a monk.
Sorry you don't like it Gem. <3
My whole team died off, and there was a bunch of Charr guarding the objective. I snuck over a hill overlooking thier whole camp and rained down at them from ahigh with a barrage of arrows. Good fun.
E.G. the devourers (scorpion things) I whoop the hell out of them with my fire spells, but now I'm further into the game my spells are becomeing obsolete against some enemies and i NEED someone with a diff spell set just to do any damage.
All in all, bloody good game if you got some one to play with, plus ingame the community is pretty nice as well, you'll always get your 1 sad git who wants to winge at everyone tho....
You will get severely dissapointed with the PVP once you start going against entire teams built from Warrior/Monks (Arguably overpowered right now)
They seriously have to do something about that... *Hugs his W/R*

Muahahah. They're only one Mesmer away from death.
Clichéd Warrior/Monk + Phantasm + Imagined Burden = A rather slow Warrior/Monk with little hope of healing himself quickly.
That said, I'm a Necromancer/Warrior. I love my Bone Horrors and Blood Magic too much (with a dash of swordsmanship), so I'll have to find a Mesmer buddy before I hit the arena.
I gotta agree- Gamespot ain't too smart.
His lack of what now?
I rarely encounter people that think tactically with my RolePlaying character... I usually explain everything as if they are 8 years old. I almost wanted to cry when someone said "attack the big guy first" when a squad was marching for us, and the "big guy" was standing still some ways behind them.
I was just noting the fact that "foresight" makes no sense. Perhaps our undeniably insightful OP was searching for another word?
^^
Exactly.

"Well gee, you should have just said something that I could not possibly throw back in your face in as arrogant a way as possible!"
Allright I get it now
That's pretty much the best response to anything ever.

Right, now that GW's crapness and standard MMORPG/boring co-op has been snuffed out, back to WOW.
Oh damn it's a Friday.
Oh well,back to NS.
In fact, just show me two screenshots; one of fantasy mode, one of fighting mode.
