Marine or Army
So yeah apparently I'm going to fail out of college, not because I can't handle it, but because attendance issues (too bad the final grade wasn't based soley upon tests ). After each vacation i go to less and less class. Now I have to decide what to do, I won't be able to live at home much longer cause my parents are gonna go psycho if I fail and I can't deal with it much longer and I don't want to move out based on a Walmart or McDonalds paycheck. My question is which branch of the military is better the marines or the army? I've been looking into it a little but I really don't want to talk to a recruiter right off who will say anything to get me to sign up. Do you have to be able to swim WELL to be in the marines, other than that what's the major differences. Which one gets better pay?

Who cares about pay when youre pretty much guaranteed to be shipped out after you join? Put it this way, marines have a much higher casualty rate than army.

A good friend of mine from the states applied for the navy, got shipped to South Korea and was there for 2 months. Then all of a sudden got a letter about getting shipped to Hell instead. 15 hours later he was there. and like Waterboys cousin said, he said the same thing, its Hell.

There's a reason I asked if one had to swim well in the other branches. I can swim, but certainly not well, so Navy really isn't a good idea.

If you want to be a peon, join the navy. If you want to be an SUPER peon, join the army.

Join the Air Force and laugh at all the little people on the ground.

Stop laughing at little people on the ground when they pack Stingers.

    Bomb them instead.

    QFT.

You think the Navy makes you swim? You stay on a ship, and so ship things. You won't be swiming, this isn't the Olympics here.

Yes! Yes! The Air Force is by far the coolest. If you get to fly, that is.

Army or Navy, definitely. Far as I know, you don't have to be able to swim very well in the Navy since you're on a ship the whole time anyway.

At least in those branches, you'll have less hate-filled dorks with their heads stuck up their ***es and an ego strong enough to lift weights for the bloody Marine. (Note: Not every Marine is like this, but the proportion of dorks:cool people is much higher. Unless you're in the marines too, then they love you.)

I'm pretty sure that you have to swim in the navy, my uncle was in the navy and he can hold his breath for...... 5-6 minuites? Its insane, and you can only do that by, well, swimming D:

Both are pretty hardcore when it comes to bootcamp too, you might want to check on that. I'd join the marines personally, but ugh that bootcamp D:

Air Force. My pops was in the air force and he said the runnign requirement was like a quarter mile in 5 minutes or something equally easy. Plus you get to work with crazy computers and radar that goes ping!

In the Marines you do lots of swimming. And the Marines have a couple extra months of basic so they can cop a tude for the rest of their lives. Go Army.

You could be one of those dudes who stands on the deck of aircraft carriers waving wands and gets run over by noob pilots.

Seriously, I heard that modern wand-wavers have a higher rate of attrition than the pilots themselves.

Wand waving isnt hard or exspensive. Driving planes is.

Yes, it is. And I'm not making that up. They have a better chance of death doing the easy job than flying.

What I meant by that was, if a low rent wand waver gets sucked into a jet engine, not a big deal. Multimillion dollar aircraft with multimillion dollar pilots are.

My dad's been with the Navy and the Marines--Marines get their non-combatant units from the Navy, since every Marine is a combatant.

So if you want a relatively easy job--go Army, or Air Force. Much less demanding in either of those than the Marines. The Navy will make you swim an awful lot in practices, even if you never have to swim while actually on the job, so probably not for you. But if you can be a Marine and make it through training, you're set for life. Yes, Marines may have higher attrition rates than the Army percentage-wise, but its still pretty low overall. And you get free medical care, and you'll be one of the world's best.

Of course, Marines are crazy. Take that how you will...

And also, if you're a marine you may have to go to some school to try to recruit punk kids and get called a jar head by 16 year olds. Marines are a pretty raw deal if you ask me.
