    started playing, lower level grinding is a pain, finding quests is a chore/confusing

    the level grind is an odd one, it moves a little like a roller coaster, easy at first, then hard, then it gets easy again, then hard, then easy to level, and so on and so forth, but constantly growing with an overtone of increased time.

    man it's late and i need sleep. i hope that made sense,

    low level mages are nigh impossible if you do them the long-term smart way of dumping all your points into raising mp max instead of your attack spell...

    I'm tempted to put my mage on hold for a thief or something...
  • NeonSpyderNeonSpyder &quot;Das est NTLDR?&quot; Join Date: 2003-07-03 Member: 17913Members
    well i'm offering to power level any mage who wants to make their character the right way by pumping max mp instead of magic attack. i was helping Gemma earlier today and we leveled her from 9 to 12 in about an hour and a half? yeah, something like that, it was fun because i got about 100% of experience as well, so i'm halfway to level 19 now.

    What quests? There ARE no quests! ARGH!
    ...at least not at around level 18.
  • RaVeRaVe Join Date: 2003-06-20 Member: 17538Members
    You haven't done John's Quest? That's pretty much a prerequisite since finding metal ores, let alone jewel ores is a required for creating higher-levelled equipment.

    Heck, claw thieves have it worst. We have to hunt metals AND leather just to make some claw that'll be outdamaged in 5 levels D:<

    Roffle, firstly, Maniacripper, you are on your own, no one is in the bera server and you cant change servers... might i suggest you restart in the Scania server?

    Secondly, the lvling, its easier when you are in the early part of the 10's. ie lvl1, 10 20 30etc... why? Bcause you can finnaly kill new monsters with more xp, but then at a later time in the level (ie from around untill around lvlx5 to lvlx9 (lv 5 6 7 8 and 9). you are hitting the same smaller monsters, but need more xp to fill the ever increasing xp requirement for the next lvl.Finaly at the next lvl you can hit the bigger monsters and get more XP, so you gain lvls quicker etc etc...

    Bhe that made sense to me but its hard to explain...

    Oh and the quests come in 5's, lvl 10 (blackbulls) lvl 15, lvl 20 etc.... here let me link you to some quests..
    This is anothvery usefull site.<a href='http://www.u8generation.com/maple/' target='_blank'>Hidden Street</a> (edit: which seems to be down for maintenece)

    Failing that, check on the <a href='http://www.mapleglobal.com' target='_blank'>main site</a> and click under the Library then the quest section... you will find most of the quests there... some might not be as some are hidden <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    well, a lvl 8 soon-to-be warrior isn't much to lose. I got to lvl 8 soon-to-be MAGE rather quickly, 2 hours tops. it shouldn't take a warrior more than an hour i would think to get to lvl 8 again. And everyone lost there old accounts when it went final.

    I had a lvl 18 or 19 mage, can't remember, it's been a couple months since MS has even been installed. I might give it another go after I finish school and finish borrowing KOTOR from a friend.

    BTW, how long in hours does it take most mages to get to lvl 20? just curious.

    I still on't get the quests...

    to do themyou almost always have to be stupidly higher level..

    like black bull, kill ax stumps before lvl 10? wth?

    Also, for any one who knows about spearmen:

    Looking through the guides on sleepywood I see everyone saying max the 2 basic warrior attack skills.

    I would rather work on the hp skills, will I end up totaly gimped?
  • Steel_TrollSteel_Troll Join Date: 2004-02-12 Member: 26455Members
    Well thansal the recomended Skill build for spearman is:

    1st Job (concerns you most now)
    Increasing Max HP Recovery: 5
    Improving Max HP Increase: 10
    Endure: 3
    Iron Body: 20
    Power Strike: 20
    Slash Blast: 20

    2nd Job(Read up on it im not sure...)
    Spear/Polearm Mastery: 20
    Spear/Polearm Final Attack: 30
    Spear/Polearm Booster: 18
    Iron Will: 3
    Hyper Body: 30

    You need both PS and SB at lvl 20. Mainly cause you will be attacking loads of mobs in some situations, but also one or two strong monsters in other situations. Spearmen have tons of HP later on, and so you will not want to sit around for 5 mins while you recharge upwards of 2000HP, and even though you have added regen if you max HP recovery, it will still take 2 mins+, som most people just munch Unagis (HP recovering food)...

    I hear iron body will be useless later on, only stopping 10 hit points from the stronger creatures, so this may mean you could put the extra on HP recovery.. however this was just a rumour so im not sure, ill have to read up on it...
    Hunzy could you add any other comments?

    And the quests, they often give you equipment for higher levels, eg Blackbull gives you a lvl 15 sheild (or if you are lucky the rarer lvl 25 red triangle sheild which i got <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->). THis leaves you 10 levels in which to aquire the stuff needed for the qest. I got most of the Axe Stumps at lvl 14, 15... so its not really stupid... although i agree they are somewhat hard...
  • ThansalThansal The New Scum Join Date: 2002-08-22 Member: 1215Members, Constellation
    hehe, I suck at life

    I thought that "Improving Max HP Increase" was a lvl 20 cap, not level 10 <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    yah, now that I see that I will be sticking with the "standard" build <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    thanks <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    I also think that we should start a pool of the quest items to help people out
  • AlignAlign Remain Calm Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 5216Forum Moderators, Constellation
    Sure. I have tons of firewood.
  • RaVeRaVe Join Date: 2003-06-20 Member: 17538Members
    Bah if there's anything we should pool, it's leather and ores :O

    I swear they never bothered thinking about how difficult it is to gather up very many pieces of leather from piggies =\

    Not to mention that you mages will need those gems later on for your wands/staves <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    I am also wondering if you actualy end up gimped if you don't have a 4/4 (or close) I have about 5 points over the 4/4 idea (thus putting me a level behind a 4/4).

    Do stats realy matter that much?

    or will it eventualy just sorta level off?

    I'm sorry for dissing Maple earlier.
    I forgot to mention that Maple was actually a very good game in itself when I had previously played it,but that it was surrounded by bugs.
    Ok,I'm gonna try to get a new account one more time,then I'm giving up for good this time. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    basicaly 2 days of actualy playing got my warrior to lvl 16...

    mages obviously take longer (though if you nab one of us to help you power level...)

    I also would be around lvl 17-18 if I hadn't stoped to do John's quest and about 6 run throughs to get ores...

    I will also be poking around at an archer (Thael) I am sorta pondering between Xbow and Spear atm.
  • Steel_TrollSteel_Troll Join Date: 2004-02-12 Member: 26455Members
    Thansal, skill points dont matter too much so long as you start with between

    4/4 5/5 or even 6/6 in int luck as a warrior, so there is leeway. People had 10/10 even 12/ 11 (me <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> ) and were still abl to lvl well. The real important bit is the Skill allocation Bit. If anyone has anything to ask about those, or want me to post a good build for X class, ill post it for you... eventhough i did tell you to look at the guides <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    So short answer, no you are not gimped <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    the general consensus among all us MS'ers is that if you need something, and we have it, but dont need it, it's yours. leather, ores, firewood, whatever. at least that's the case for me

    and thansel, i seriously seriously doubt you'll have a problem if your stats would are 5/5, mine are 5/5 and what it gives you is a tiny little bit more mp then other warriors would have (not a bad thing because warriors "do" need mp) and also a little tiny bit of avoidability and a slightly lessened exp loss from dying.

    **edit**

    i have level 15 archer gloves for the first person who asks
