Hmm... perhaps it is because I like apples, and the fact it had nothing to do with the OS... but I always enjoy CAD's statements. Even if a bit obsurd.

Funny, because it shows the fanboyism some people have towards PC's. And the steriotypes people put Mac users into that generally isn't true from my own experiance.

Of course, I've never seen a Mac outside an educational or professional setting... And the only people I know that have macs are video editors... Hmm...

So is that computer of his a Mac or not?

This is funny because the Macs I use are less powerful than my computer at home and crash more often, so I use my PC for graphics work and the Macs at college for messing around on. Hot damn.

If the Macs at your college are less powerful then the PC you currently own they probably date back to the PowerPC 200 days... (Which is equivlent to about a PIII 900mhz).

Actually all the labs have G4's, apart from one which has G5's.
• CyndaneCyndane Join Date: 2003-11-15 Member: 22913Members
Which makes them more powerful then your home pc...

I'm missing something...(Wrong apps on the college ones?) (Confusion on how to run an apple?)

You must be pretty good at them computar machines to know that without spacer's specs.

Confusion on how to run an Apple? Do you need to crank a handle somewhere that I've missed?
I'm perfectly capable of opening Photoshop and using a keyboard and mouse in tandem to create images, thank you very much.

Unless spacer is running a dual xeon or dual operton(in which case the G5 would still run faster not the G4), I think I can safely say that my experiences with the G4 and my PIV would prove quite satisfactory, for knowing how fast the computer can run.

Unless of course someone borked the Macs at his university before he got there, which is possible.

/me thinks Cyndane assumes too much.

You know what they say about when you assume . . .

Does anyone have any benchmarks? I'd like to see some before I believe that a G5 is better than an AMD or a Pentium.

If only you knew what most schools do to PC's

My school has

PROS:
P4 3.6 ghz CPU
1 gig DDR2 RAM
180 gig HD
T3 connection

CONS:
integrated audio
integrated video
1 server for 6 buildings
never reboots them (they run 24/7 for about 3 months, then they reboot em when they do a re-install of the default settins as so many kids have changed them to make em better)
Computer lab = ~ 90 degrees on average

Yes... 6 buildings, roughly 150 PC's per building... all on ONE server down at our admin building...

...

...

...

I can't even THINK of what could make them think that's better... but our Tech person INSISTS it's faster having that many PC's on one server than having separate servers for each building

Well, I'm pretty lucky with my school, they let the students be the administrators, not some old teacher.
I've never seen anyone use a Mac for anything other than Photoshop or video editing; a university here uses Linux and Windows, no Macs at all.

Oh Em Eff Gee! Students?? As in... kids that grew UP with PC's and generally know how to use them??

Thats... IMPOSSIBL! That'd mean the school did something SMART!

Yes, I know, it's unbelievable. The only thing they forgot to restrict access to is the boot menu. I can't access C:\ in Windows, but if I would boot from a knoppix CD I'd be able to change all I want on the C:\ drive .

Heh, I know how universities like to mess up the computers especially on a network, which is why I asked if the macs at the college are so slow is there some external evidence.

I may assume quite a bit, but unless someone here has more experience with a mac vs pc then myself? (Caboosey?) It is quite safe to say that a G4/G5 comp lab *should* be quite a bit faster then any PC reguardless of the programs used.

(Read: Final Cut/Photoshop on Mac, Premiere/Photoshop on PC)

The apples are faster(which is why all professional video/audio/graphics/3d models(not for games) studios(movie makers) use apples.... :-)

Then run them in linux on a x86 chip and same in linux on a PPC chip.

Apple(IBM chip) really owns amd/intel then.

Half PC, Half Mac here. Delll and G3-G5 reign supreme in this campus.
Just about every floor has its own server. Unfortunately, one department got an old professor maintaining the computers, pretty easy to spot, it's the only department whose computers have no firefox. The rest got TA doing the work, you won't believe all the **** installed.

You start a war based on your assumptions, then later say you REALLY did it for freedom?
