If they do take away replicas, airsoft, etc. then they'll just find the next "problem" (I.E. what criminals will exploit to do what they do) and just have to ban something else.
What will that next thing be? Well, they're already starting up the "ban long knives" machine.
Next time take a look at my argument first before calling me a clown of sorts.
Criminals will always get guns if they want them nothing will change that. All bans like this are aiming to do is prevent the average nobshine chav from picking up a repica gun and threatening someone with it like it's real. It's the same old stupid minority ruins it for the majority crap.
Im from the UK and I totaly agree with the ban. I understand the position of the airsofting community, but replicas often get mistaken for the real thing and cause untold problems for firearms officers.
I seriously doubt the goverment will pay attention to an online petition to save a recreational sport over a matter that leads to several deaths each year ( sorry <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> ).

Someone here has mentioned it, it's a slippery slope man. I didn't ask about the purpose of this ban, I asked how far are you prepared to let these bans go?

Your suggesting the british government is instigating this ban as part of some larger conspiracy to remove our freedoms? Unfortunatly long knifes do not imitate fire arms and confuse fire arms officers, so they are irrelevant to this disscusion. This ban is not linked to preventing people from obtaining weapons that may be used to harm others, e.g long knifes. The government isnt on some crusade to take away all our freedoms by banning anything that could be used to attack someone. It looks at specific circumstances and addresses individual problems.
Of course they will not ban knifes, it would be tottaly illogical, they are used by everyone to prepare food. The government puts serious thought and debate into these matters, these are not rash decisions.
As I say, its all about individual cases and specific circumstances. The article says that the type of knife in question has no practical use and is frequently involved in stabbings. If that is the case, it would be logical to consider restrictions on their use. I don't see it happening tho. Personally I think a ban on big knifes would be pointless ( pun), Im sure a big pointy stick would be just as effective.

Gun restriction isn't perfect since, as stated before, if people want guns, they can get them, but it's a hell of a lot safer since the guns just really aren't there in circulation being bought by any tom **** or harry that wants one.
But yeah, ban on airsoft is ****witted. When i read the news story on it, i immediately thought of airsoft, but when reading it, i was skeptical as to if they actually meant it, what with the comments on converting them to fire live ammunition.
You can justify having a kitchen knife, but there is absolutely no reason why it should have a sharp point (which is the entire point of the news article). I can honestly say that i've never been required to stab the ingredients of any meal i've been called upon to prepare.
By your logic I should be allowed to own a meat tenderiser with 3-inch spikes sticking out of it. It has plenty of practical uses, tenderising meat for one. The fact that i've basically got a mace shouldn't matter.... right? <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Hard to open up cooked meat with a blunt cleaver. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
Cleavers arn't the issue, they don't have sharp points which can be used for stabbing. This isn't a (proposed) ban on all sharp objects, just on those with un-nessisary sharp points.
How many reported cases of mugging at cleaver-point have you ever heard of?

Not many...but if someone went at me with a meat cleaver I'd hand over my wallet just like I would if he had a pointy knife...
...Then again if I had a gun I could just shoot him.
