I see where you're coming from, but chances are that a slice of the singleplayer would be just as unsatisfying. The main appeal is the plot - at least for me. A small glimpse of plot wouldn't be that great. You wouldn't really be able to get into it before it's over.

Also, Monolith are holding the plot very close to their chests as it's one of it's biggest selling points, it's doubtful anything more of the story will be released before the game is shipped.

But F.E.A.R. is still the game i'm looking forward to above all else, it eclipses pretty much every other game that is penned for release in the next year. Visually it looks great, and the horror influences make the game too much to pass over.

This is one game that could do without a multiplayer demo, hell, it could probably do without a multiplayer feature at all, but some people, for some reason, need their games to have multiplayer.

*sigh* I must be getting old, bloody kids and their need for multiplayer.

Worst. Coded. Beta. Ever. I'm waaaay over the reccomended, and I still have to run it at 640x480 with everything off(except pixel doubling). Sad too, considering how good it looks to be. Then again, Monolith has never had too much skill in keeping engines scalable.

I'd chose an excellent single player experience over having multiplayer "replayability" anyday.

And people who genuinely like the human aspect? There may not be as much social, but DM is just as fun(if not moreso) than almost any co-op I've played in a game, ever.

If there's one thing I've ever learned, it's that there is nothing even slightly human about the way people act on the internet.

I'd say it's the other way around. People act all too human on the internet, sometimes.

Why, at higher resolutions, does F.E.A.R. run at lower frame rates than some of the other recently released FPS games?

Most current-generation FPS games use static information to allow them to move much of the work needed for lighting each pixel on the screen out of the scene rendering and into the process of building levels. This approach has the advantage of allowing these games to render the scene in a single pass but has the disadvantage of the runtime lighting information being static.

F.E.A.R.’s rendering engine is completely dynamic, meaning that each pixel is reevaluated every frame based on the game state to provide accurate and realistic shadowing, lighting, and effects. This means that F.E.A.R. must perform a significant amount of more work than statically-lit games for each pixel displayed on the screen. Therefore, as the resolution increases the number of pixels visible increases as does the amount of work that must be done per frame. In addition, F.E.A.R. uses very complex rendering models to enable realistic lighting and surface interactions which also makes the amount of per-pixel work more expensive than other current-generation per-pixel lit games.

In order to get the best game play experience, it is not recommended to run F.E.A.R. at high resolutions, and if necessary, try to use the full-screen anti-aliasing found in the performance menu instead of increasing the resolution as this helps improve the visual quality of the final scene without dramatically increasing the amount of work that must be performed.

    Only 512 ram & runnin great with everything medium/max & 1024*768 resolution...ain't that bad...

Great game ! Action-packed battless with only a few people look like huge shoot-outs. The lack of a wide range of weaponry is made up for with the various melee attacks that were already posted. Melee is far from underpowered, and can suprise a reloading enemy at any time. Rifles firing, shotguns pounding, nailguns...nailing, sparks flying off metal, chunks flying out of the wall, glass breaking, grenades flying all over the place and creating a (very nice!) blast (wave) effect, people getting shot and flying several feet backwards because of the impact of the bullets...then someone starts slow motion...the shotgunner manages to get one more shot off, in the split second - which has now turned into a full second - the rifleman who had emptied his clips rushes towards him, jump up, SNAP - neck breaks...blood splatters over the damaged scenery as the body gets sent flying and spinning from the impact...suddenly the killer hears a shot...what the!? before he realises it, several nails pin his chest against the wall and thereby killing him...

    Sorry...got a bit carried away >_<

    Nail em !
