<div class="IPBDescription">and what you do with it.</div> This upcoming spring, I plan to travel to the rockies of British Columbia with my life partner and live. We are planning to build our own log cabin, plant and tend our own crops, essentially testing our mettle againts that of nature. To see if we, as individuals and together, can live, and grow as human beings, alone and together, in the woods.

We are planning this for many reasons, most of them being that of personal value, willpower, and strength, of body and mind.

If this is going to succeed, it wil take all of our determination, and every last drop of preperation we can muster, So, along with researching the required information ourselves, I would like to ask this community, this wonderful community of individuals, to share with us your fears, doubts, congratulations, questions, opinions, and most importantly.

Your advice.

Thank You.

-Sincerely Ryan, (Neonspyder that those that can read, and Ginkan to those that play Maplestory. you know who you are)

    Good luck with your new adventure. Breathing in all the fresh air, just dont forget about the rest of us out in civilization. I take it you wont have the internet out there so if you ever come into town get online and say hi and tell us how you are doing every now and then.

    That and when its winter time dont get in the way of one of those crafty arctic sno...*cough i mean bears. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Heheheh, I shall be very careful whenever i do venture out into snonos territory.

    Of course i will drop you guys a line if i'm ever in town. though the town i'm planning on living nearby really probably doesn't have an internet cafe or anything. it's called "Hope" for any of those who've heard of it.

    Besides, Bears hibernate during the winter. duh. wont need to worry about them.

    Don't trust strangers.
    Especially those offering life insurance. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Um... when are you planning to do all that :o

    Also, take a tent or something to live in or make sure there's a hotel in the nearby town because I can't see you building an inhabitable log cabin in a single day :p

    Just a thought but if you're dead set on building this log cabin yourselves I advise putting points mainly into strength, maybe some into stamina. The warrior class is pretty good at it though nothing beats someone who takes the specialised artisan class for building stuff ^~

    I advise hunting ents for the best wood. They have a lot of hitpoints but their drops are much better than what you'll get from normal trees even with a high lumberjack skill level :p

    Make sure you know what you're getting into. I'm not trying to deter you at all; just make sure that you're prepared to deal with the extreme hardship you may be lining yourself up for.

    I disagree - the artisan class is much better at drinking wine, wearing a beret, and sneering at passers-by than he is at making a house.

    I wish you lots of luck - and I hope you have a backup plan and enough seed money because I've never heard of anyone pulling something like this off in this day and age... for instance farming is a practice that took millennia to evolve and perfect, you need to know the seasons for planting different crops, hope for enough rain if you don't have irrigation, have enough storage for the winter, know how to prepare and preserve things, etc... it's not the sort of thing where you can just toss some seeds on the ground and be well fed for the rest of your life...

    read Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer - it's a very stark true story about the life of a young man who decided to go up north where you plan on going and live off the land... it doesn't end well :o

    I don't want to be a doomsayer - just saying, be prepared, so we don't have to worry <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Tent for sleeping in during cabin construction -- check

    All we need to know on cabin construction -- check (it's amazingly simple. it just takes a lot of hard work)

    Seed money -- check

    Back-up plan -- negatory :o

    Disco, i do realize that there is a lot of information that we must look into before we start. I am talking to everyone i know, especially my grandparents who have a large amount of knowledge in this field, as well as dozens of books so far. I know how to preserve food, i know how to smoke meat to keep it edible all through winter.

    Also disco, for clarification sake, we will be traveling 'south' a little from where we live :P

    and if you live north of BC already, at least you're already used to the weather <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    I think that's only if you take the sub-class - French.

    I suggest you watch every episode of 'The Good Life' and take lots of batteries. Oh and read lots of Stephen King.

    What's your background? You a city boy? Cause livin' in the sticks can have a rough effect if you arnt used to it. I can't stand cities, too many people.

    But really roughin' it is not as fun as movies and books and such would have you believe. You ever been hunting? Kill anything? Know how to clean it? Cook it? How far into this are you going? You gonna be wearing what you hunt? Cause that's difficult, I made a hat out of a raccoon, but it took me a couple tries. Ever handle a gun? Not ragging on you here, just trying to get a feel for your situation.

    half my life in the city, and half in the country.

    Karma, we're not doing this because we expect it to be fun. we expect it to hard, challanging, difficult, and every other word for hardship there is. however, we also expect it to be worth it, because without challanges, or hardship, we can never grow as individuals.

    I have never been hunting, but i know i will have to learn, and i am prepared to do so, i am also prepared to learn how to clean and cook my prey, though we will not be wearing what we hunt, people have jackets for a good reason.
