<div class="IPBDescription">Who Do YOU Trust / Avoid ?</div> I'm going to be getting a nice shiny new GameCube and Resident Evil 4 tomorrow but in the meantime I want to do a little reading up on it. Watch some trailers etc etc.
So here's where you lot can join in:
What site(s) do you use when you want to find out weather a game is worth buying or not?
I'm trying to avoid IGN cus of the "Click Here To Contine To <article x>" style ads.
GameSpy are ok but again, suffer from the stupidly large and annoyingly placed ads.

Gamespot can't rate jack crap(OLOLO METROID PRIME IS BEST GAME EVER)
IGN, while written intelligently, I don't agree with their opinions.
PCGamer is a good one too(the mag). Most other mags(cough cough, CGW) suck.
Gamespot? They're owned by CNET. (CNET=Evil)+Gamespot =/= Good Combo.
I usually go by popular opinion of actual gamers, not by the people paid to inflate game scores by the publisher.

You are dead to me, DOOMeh. Do you hear me?! <i>DEAD!!!</i>
But the Game Geezer is just plain awesome. This is from a really old issue:

He's old! He's p*****!
SLOW DOWN CONSOLE EVOLUTION!
"Hey, Game Geezer, what's that thing you got there? Is that a toaster?"
Ehh? What? It's a Dreamcast, ya morons! Just about the finest dang console system ever invented! I oughta kick all your **** right now!
"Sorry, Mr. Geezer. We've just never heard of a Dreamcast. Is that, like, from the 1950s?"
That's it. Get out. I can't take any more. Git!
"We're sorry, Mr. Geezer. We just don't really know much about these old consoles from the Stone Age."
OK, now you're makin' me mad. Siddown. Shuddup. Learn yourself a thing or two. You see this here Dreamcast? Tell me! Do ya see it?!
"Yes, we see it, sir. and, um, Mr. Geezer? You're kind of spitting on us."
Too bad! Now listen to me. This Dreamcast is only 6 years old. You hear me? Six years! More time has passed since most of you last kissed a girl. Am I right? Especially you there, the pasty lookin' skeleton with the greasy hair and the Ninja Gaiden T-shirt! Eat some meat, for Pete's sake! Get out in the sun! This isn't a zombie movie! It's your life!
"Mr. Geezer? The consoles?"
"Huh? Yeah! The consoles. The point is, all these damn things ought to have much longer life spans than they do. Look at the graphics on this Dreamcast! They rule! Still! You won't ever get a much better-looking game than Ecco the Dolphin. Sure, the game was too freakin' hard and it was about being a dolphin, which is a pretty dorky idea for a game and maybe one of the reasons why the system failed, but never mind! That's not the point! The point is, if we all still had Dreamcasts instead of PS2s or Xboxes or--if you remember what these are--GameCubes, we'd still be having a great time as gamers! We'd all still be ignoring our jobs and schoolwork and family and loved ones, just like we were born to do, and we'd be having a blast with a buncha games that would still look great!
It's crazy how shortsighted and impatient gamers are. We can't settle in with a new machine for two minutes before everyone starts talking about the next consoles already. Here's what I have in my living room, piled in a heap next to my Matlock videotapes: an SNES, a Nintendo 64, a Playstation, a Dreamcast, a Saturn, an Xbox, a GameCube, and a PS2. Who needs all this junk? I haven't finished three games on any one of 'em, ever! But I keep buying more!
And now guess what's happening. Yep--everyone's begun yammering their fool heads off about Xbox 2 and PlayStation 3. For what? Why? You may see the other editors for this here magazine getting all hot and bothered by the new machines, but I've had enough, I'm done. I'm gettin' off the horse. No more new consoles for me. Not until I beat Final Fantasy III on SNES first. And this **** Dreamcast dolphin game. Yeah, sure, Microsoft's and Sony's new machines will have new graphics and such, but here's my official review right now: So what! Get lost! Good-bye! You get no more of my money! ever!
'Course, I suppose, maybe Mrs. Geezer could buy me one for Christmas...<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Friends - trust me, they have terrible taste.
How cheap it is in the shop
Ebay last miniute for less than £3
Or, I wait until someone posts about it here.
OXM, depending on the reviewer can be okay for Xbox games. Their main problem seems to be hyping a games, but then when it comes out and it sucks they usually give it a pretty bad score (Jade Empire, which was merely okay, seems rated to high; along with the 9.6 for Splinter Cell...but Ninja Gaiden and such seems right on).
I usually just watch videos from IGN...and disregard anything that comes from Gamespy and their "Main page doesn't link to articles properly; we've got 5 stars!; good writers? who needs those?; pimp the forum/funny columns/crap repeatedly!; bury everything useful" aura, despite being related directly with IGN. Gamespot is fairly biased towards PS2 games, but if you're looking for a group of reviews theirs can be okay. This forum is probably the best resource for good games...or at least new, hyped games...which is pretty much the only spotlight for those other sites, too.

Didnt get those early ones (My sub started in Jan 2000) but im guessing they have gotten <i>alot</i> better since then, since most of there reveiws are spot-on. And if there not, they usually add a little something in next months mag (IE, they gave Halo2 an ultimate score of 5/5, but the month after that there was an article saying that more of the editors in the mag agreed that it should have been 4.5./5.)
Everyone else comes after.
But RE4=FANTASTIC game.
Tales of symphonia, for 20 bucks, doesn't seem like too bad an idea...
/me shrugs
These forums are usually an okay indicator of what games to give a try, with some exceptions.
Mostly what I look for is info on the actual game <i>itself</i> rather than a judgement on how good it is. For example, I bought Diablo 2 after reading extensive details about it on <a href='http://www.battle.net/diablo2exp/' target='_blank'>The Arreat Summit</a> (then "The Chaos Sanctuary"). So for me it's got to be hands-on experience or lots of details from someone who knows. Reviews are only enough to make me notice a game, not buy it.
Of course, past track record plays huge part. When Supreme Commander comes out I'm almost certainly buying it.
Gamespot.. Good for second opinion. IGN is run by a bunch of fanboys.

I don't trust:
Everything else
<i>Especially</i> these forums
Sometimes I go to sites like Gamespy and IGN and read their reviews of a game I've already played, just to see how wrong they are. The sheer volume of innacuracies, bias, fanboyism and general stupidity <i>never</i> disappoints and serves both to remind me of why the notion of actually <i>spending your money</i> based on these reviews is so ridiculous and to keep me entertained for at least an hour every time. It's great, everyone should try it.

Pulse, how can you trust Forums? There are about 20,000 registered members with completely differing opinions here.
I don't, which is why I said so.

I lose all respect for EGM after one reviewer game Bomberman DS a poor review, then saying it's her first Bomberman game.
She has no right reviewing game. I mean playing at least one Bomberman is a pre-requisite for working in a game industry... isn't it?
