Marine + Knife while digesting

Have you ever been devoured by an onos and wonder why you are stuck inside of it when just about no one is doing anything? I know i have been in this situation. Thats why think that in natural selection 2 while you are inside of an onos digesting you should at least get a knife and slash at the inside of the onos at about 20-40% speed but 200% damage. Please tell me what you think about this idea.

    I am all for removing devour completely, or at the very least redoing it's implementation.

    Maybe increase the time needed for digestion. It seems you die to quickly that way.

    What I would like to see is this:

    When you devour a marine succesfully, a animation is played in which the marine gets pulled into the onos' mouth. Then it would take time to devour somebody and would only be effective against lone marines, as the other marines can shoot you while you do this.

    Then if you would kill the onos before he has the marine into his mouth completly, the marine would fall down and pick up his equipment and move on.


    I'd rather see devour staying with the needed visual changes as it adds atmosphere, but right now, the way onos devours people is simply weird. There's no attack animation and he just runs around (applies to gore to), and suddenly you would be in a stomach instantly.

    Knifing the onos' stomach wouldn't be a good idea, as you should be screaming of pain because your body is slowly digesting.

    If you pulled out a grenade and pushed the explosion-button but didn't release it and then an Onos came and digested you, that grenade should explode inside his stomach, since your fingers would release the button while being digested. That would make more sense than knifing.

    So. The Digesting.

    Let's see some facts.

    Woohoo, you're going to the base. SHLAAP. You are in the Stomach of an Onos. The stomach acid is eating you. Outwards you hear a couple marines shooting at your direction. The Onos dies. You were'nt hit by one of the bullets. Suddenly you stand right there with your equipment. Kewl, eh?

    So. If you were in the Onos stomach and that thingy dies.. why should'nt you die with him? Hard to understand why you get out of him..

    I think the Devour should be nerfed.. It should only digest players with no armor left or hard damaged ones..

    Sometimes i thought of a solution.. Replacing the Onos devour with something else and make an partner lifeform that got a very long tongue, can stick itself to surfaces and can grab marines from 5-6 metres. Like an Chameleon. So it can throw the rines around or can pull up a rine and bite him easily. After time it can devour them, too.

    i find it ironic most of the I&S stuff and things that get discussed in this forum assume that NS2 is going to have the same classes and most of the same weapons/skills as NS1... this isn't NS:S people, this is a fully blown new game. give Charlie and co. some credit, i'm sure they have lots of very new material that will go into NS2 and they are not just updating NS1.

    How about this!

    When the onos dies, youre no longer getting digested. Youre stuck in the stomach of a ragdoll and now(since youre body is no longer getting digested) you can grab your knife and cut the softened stomach open to free yourself.

    sure no onos devour but onos gets a new attack its a malee attack called, coma sting, rines hud fades to black rine falls to the ground and is in stasis as he slowly dies as his health rapidly decrease's, onlyway to come out of the coma is your team kills the onos, onos while consetrating to keep you in a coma regens health and moves slighlty slower.

    If the dead onos is a ragdoll i don't think source could process that kind of physics of cutting open the onos. We would need a physx card in which about 99% of most people don't have it. It probably would be possible if the onos died and didn't turn into a ragdoll but rather had a death animation so the cut would be able to appear.

    The marine pulls the pin on his grenade and gets devoured... Sort of turns into something like a firecracker in a closed hand.

    Finally! Someone with a clue!

    The man's right, you should all be making up original and brand new ideas, concepts and suggestions. Not trying to modify NS1 features as they might not appear at all in NS2.
    I mean, as far as we know the Kharaa could just as well be replaced with Rabbids. Infested Rabbids. No devouring onoses of doom, then.

    Redoing Devour, eh?
    I'd say change it from a base skill, to a 2nd or 3rd hive skill. But how will it work you cry?

    Relying on hitboxes (OMG hitboxes!!! ure trying to make it liek CS!!1oneoneone ,,|,, fu) You could make it so the Onos could either eat a weapon if the onos hits the arms. It could disable a marine for a few seconds if you hit them in the legs.

    And if you get really good, and hit them in the head, you could either bite the head off (if it was a hive 3 ability), or you could remove all (or about 100 points) of the armour the marine has.

    if any form of devour is placed into ns:rabbit edition, the giant rabbit of dewm eats the carrotmarine who dies immediately and respawns while the giant rabbit of dewm digests the carrotmarine's corpse.

    Well i believe half life 2 could manage that only if the model had some way of tearing the side of the onos in a pre-defined area, meaning that where you knife won't necessarily be where the tear appears. Possible but what if the ragdoll falls onto the area where the tear is? This is all possible but may be just... odd.

    I havn't seen whatever it is your talking about in alien vs predator 2. Know of any videos?

    The grenade would not go off in the onos' stomach because you have to remember that the grenades have infinitely regenerating nanite pins. For proof: pull the pin to arm a grenade, switch weapons, repeat.

    I want the onos (and ns2 itself) to be reworked such that devour is no longer necessary.

    I'd be content with the marine being pulled in from the Onos's mouth into his dark stomach, and blacking out as you start to move towards the light after exiting its body.

    A full 3d model of the Onos stomach would real cool. Although if that was implemented, you know you would have to make it so that if a grenade was primed before you got digested, it would explode inside causing a small amount of damage. Maybe 150-200 health, which in some hilarious scenarios could have the devoured marine bursting out of the dead onos with low health.

    I already thought its pretty funny when you get rescued from inside an onos and pop out and having to take a second to get your bearings of where you are.

    Imagine this:

    Your team is chasing an onos down a corridor and it manages to eat your heavy. The onos gets hurt pretty bad but turns a corner and looks like he'll be okay, until he hears a faint "countdown beep that gets fast very quick" and explodes from the inside out from your primed grenade you had ready before being eaten. You walk back around the corner with a temporary slimey sheen on your armor, and you're a hero to your team. Congratulations!

    Only NS could get a moment like that <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />. Unfortunately I doubt a feature like this would make it into the game.

    /cry more? Devour is all part of strategy, and knifing an onos from the inside is so friggin stupid i have no idea why you even mention the idea. Plus you probably wanted to say something because you are a pubber and your teammates dont know how to pwn an onos. Key to onos isnt about rushing in and tanking but to use it as if you were using a fade, a quick go in kill a couple and flee, cept in the onos case since its so FAT and slow and the HITBOXES ARE TOO FRICKING BIG, they devour and run. Onos is too easy to take down if you know how to do it right. And as for dying too fast in digestion, i think not, i think its perfect the way it is because its strategy, all the onos would be doing if it was longer would be sitting back and waiting for that marine to die.

    As an idea though, i say reduce the movement speed of the onos by 15% when devouring a target or 25% since it has stun. But thats not even necessary because the onos is very easy to catch up to since a marine can manuver around corners alot better then that onos could.

    exsackly its there to take the rine out of the game for a limited time, if a full health rine happens to get eaten by a kharraa kodus to the ono bl to the rine, the low health no ammo knife welding maniac should of before this point jumped in and tryed to bait the onos to eat him

    before the web change gorges where a great counter to heavys, web spit web spit, OC helps a little mc keeps you webing and spiting, espescaly one on one if he didnt have a GL yummy

    The onos already moves slower while digesting, although I do not know by what percentage.
