What's your style?
my personal favourite alien is the silenced, cloaked, regenerating skurk. i like running around with no one hearing then hiding with my cloak till a good attack opportunity comes.
dash in, bite like mad, run away, cloak, regenerate, repeat

another is the lerk + carapace + cloak + adren.
Spike/Umbra/Spore hell
^_^
Just get those 2 hives and evolve stright away to fade.they are great in offence and in defence...proper use of claws and acid rokets and with third hive bileboms will do the trick at least to enemy soldiers...remember adrenaline is MUST HAVE for fade...
Especialy if a kindly Onos wants to primal scream you.
Oh yeah RAIN THE HELL THAT IS THE BILE BOMB down upon them
Edit: I wrote this before the patch. Regeneration is MUCH much better now, so I go with that.
I NEVER use Onos. Just too damn bulky for me. I prefer letting my teammates do it(And they always do), so they can be the meat shields. I'll kill all the marines busy firing at the runaway buffalo.
My skulk of choice is celerity, cloak, carapace. Any of that in any order. They are all very usefull upgrades that help my playstyle just as much.
While I like silence, I often find that being really fast is just as good, because I can strike quickly. Plus, I can run away fast and get around the level uber-fast. Thats why when I get movement upgrade I'm like a one-skulk defense for my team. any place thats being attacked, I'm there, and behind the enemy for easy bites. and since i'm super-speedy and armored, I can hit and run for a long time.
Regen...I'm fast, I can get to a hive/D chamber and back really fast. The trouble with skulks isn't so much gaining back health, as not dying in the first place.
likely glancing and then back to the hive, you go heal up takes 2-5 sec, and off you go with celerity geting back to the fight quick as a flash. plus you dont worry bout dying much so you can go in to a frensy.

Wasn't that something Gotenks used on Majin Buu?
Cloak, Regen, and Adrenaline so I can do my leaps sooner again
Next fav is a Gorge(!):
Cloak, Carapace (I'm usually around defense turrets, so regen isn't necessary), and celerity (cause they move so damn slow!)
Sent of fear is great for fade. Launch a bilebome or acid rocke so it's slash does around a corner or anywhere you can't see but want to go to. If you hit something (includeing a sg!) you'll get a nice yellow circle on your hivesight. Also good for tracking them pesky marins to know when you your acidrocket and bile bombs just as they get around the corner. And I love primal rage! gives you awsome firepower.
second fave is lerk with adren, redemption and sent of fear (havn't realy tryed stealth yet).
Great for supporting other aliens with spore and umbra. Then you use your darts to pick of the straglers. Only problem I have to lerk is that many places are to small to make there increadible mobility fully effective.
My alternit second fav is gorge with adren, carcapase, and sent of fear (just so I can crossevo with fade). The miniskulks are a realy good attack if you know how to use them! Also fun is building a def cham or two out of sight of some SG then creaping up to the doorway/bend and building 2-3 off chams, after they are build heal them. WIth the def chams and full adrenaline you should be able to take out the sgs fairly easly depending on how many there are. As a bonus any fade will get a good shot with their rockets and bombs. If there is a siege you just heal the fades and onos (will probably be a full time job)
skulk: cloak, regenreration and celerity...makes good for the lone hunter....
gorge: adrenalin, cloak and redemption
lerk: cloak, regenration and adrenalin
fade: cloak, carapace and adrenalin
onos: cloak, carapace, redemption
My fav so far seems to be Lerk + cloaking + adren + regeneration
It's followed closely by Skulk + cloaking + silence + carapace
And then the Gorge + cloaking + celerity + carapace (well, either that or redeem... not sure... I prefer not to get into fights as a a gorge... Redeem would help me escape faster...)

Hmm, if Kharaa got most resources and earn like 6 per income, then I usually go gorge(unless there are already two on the team. NEVER transform into gorge when there are already two gorges in the team, you _will_ loose due to lack of resources for the builders.), and cultivate forests of lame for my teammates(and myself if they dont kill the base off, then I go fade.)... For those not familiar with Forests of Lame;
Take any random important strategic point that is close to the main battle, but not in range for possible siege turrets(you will have to check this by trial and error im afraid). Preferably near a res tower. Make a defense chamber, and then an offense chamber. Then make two more defense chambers, and after those are done, more offense chambers. Contunie spamming chambers like this, and remember to stack the bloody things by jumping up on one of them(the hitboxes are not the same size as the models), and then aiming above any nearby chambers on the ground. Preferably make a wall this way. Oh, and of course put most of the offense chambers infront of the def chambers in the direction of the most likely marine assault way.
Then it heals itself as it gets damaged, and those who just finished a hit&run operation become very grateful for a stupid amount of def chambers to heal them up quickly("heal me quickly").
Alternatively, instead of just building new forests other places when you run into the limit, you can morph into onos or fade(you should get enough resources fairly quick if you really got enough to make this forest in the first place), with the chambers covering you incase some marine decided to poke his helmeted head out from the nearby corridor("cover me plenty"). Hope you got adrenaline for that onos or fade... oh and if making a team assault with one onos (or more for that matter)in the group, _ALWAYS_ do primal scream in teh beginning, you take MUCH less damage. Also, if you got enough adrenaline, and if some of the marine team's gajillion turrets have been destroyed, so that you have enough time to recharge your adren after biting so your jaws ache, scream on. And let your teammates get a nice boost every time.
WEEEEEE! Spam is what makes the aliens win! Though thats for marines also. GL spam
then I discovered that with advanced hive sight on, I was unstoppable in dark areas
I think that this is drastically underused, and although I really hate to give up my cloaking, I get almost twice as many kills when I can see what I'm aiming at. I think this is especially helpful for people who are new to the game and aren't very good with skulk yet.
Now, I'm nothing but carapace + ahs + celerity

Will you still cloak and regen and hope that noise you make servers more to creep the marines out rather than to help them locate you, or do you sacrifice either celerity or adrenaline to stay a silent regenerator?
Makes for an especially hard decision for the lerk, who undoubtably receives the greatest benefit from adrenaline...
How is this a problem? This is a team game. If you are a Gorge most of the game it just might be you don't get more than maybe 3 kills, depending on what kind of Off Chamber forests you build, the map and so on... but no Gorge cares about this. It's a team game and solo performance on it's own has no meaning, the value of one's performance is measured by it's value to the team.
Sure, it's fine to see someone rack up 30 kills with 5 deaths as a Skulk, but that doesn't lessen the contribution of the Skulk who had -20 kills and 30 deaths. He might've been a brave little builder earlier in the game and when they got 3 hives and enuff defenses, he mutated into Skulk and said "Yessss.... THIS IS WHAT I'VE BEEN LIVING FOR!" (a bit like the Taleban, I suppose... bad joke) and bombed away.
Brings a tear into my eye. Those brave, brave Skulks.

Another good one in late games is Onos with Carpace, cloak and celerity. Stand a few meters outside their exits and wait for a marine or a squad of them to exit, and then wait so they can assure themselves that no alien is nearby, and let them walk a bit away from the exits so they cant run back in again. Then when they least expect it ill run towards them and hopefully kill them all
I take the Four C's - Cloak, Celerity, Carapace, and Chuckle.
Climb on ceiling. Cloak. When Marine walks in, Chuckle. Watch him spray ammo all over the floor.
Listen for reload noise. Drop on head. Carapace absorbs any knifing.
Dart off with Celerity, Chuckling all the way to the DC to heal.
Repeat.
Gorge - "Late game, and Still Building?"
Cloak, Adrenaline, Carapace.
With the other 90% of the team going Fade/Onos all the time, Gorges get the divine task of putting up the Wall of Lame (as previously mentioned) to cover their retreating and wounded butts. A stack of OCs backed by a stack of DCs is lame as hell. And ridiculously powerful. (Until one Marine with a GL comes to ruin the party.) Also, with Cloak + Adrenaline, you can web the exit to the Marine base. Always nice to slow them down a little ... and you can always stick around to Spit on anyone who gets stuck trying to come back to heal. Nothing more humiliating for an HA/HMG marine than getting 0wn3d by a Gorge.
Lerk - "What the $#!@ is shooting me?"
Cloak, Silence, Carapace.
Nothing like a cloaked, silent Spikegun. Any Marine that walks through an area I'm eyeing up gets a chest/back full of spikes - or even worse, a Silent-But-Deadly spore cloud. Pull my finger. I dare you. This also works wonders against Marines trying to build. No one's going to sit through 30 damage to second to finish that turret. And that's when the spikes come out.
Fade - The Best Reason Yet to NOT neglect your Minibases
Cloak, Adrenaline, Redemption.
Bilebomb comes out with a fury here. Run into the base and strafe around the turrets like a maniac bombing the factory. Once it goes down, slaughter the phase gate and then turrets at your leisure. If you "die" - hey, you're at a hive. Two seconds later you're healed and off to the siege again.
Onos - Pure ph34r on four legs
Cloak, Adrenaline, Carapace.
Cloak in a hallway near the base. Charge & trample the next group of Marines. Carapace soaks up the spray & pray like a sponge, and you just mosey on back to a DC to heal.
