I downloaded and watched a video of CS:S... it's interesting. Normal gameplay for CS, everything is EXACTLY THE SAME.
The flashbangs don't seem to be more/less effective The guns still do the same thing
Basically, it's going "Look at all these pretty physics! You can shoot barrels at things, you have lovely reflecting tiles [that look worse than if you hadn't had them], you have a lot of pretty objects to hide behind, cool effects, blah blah blah" But nobody uses them. EVER.
And the maps.. it looks like a major part of the "cool looking maps" is just a few good models, and nice mapping work with good textures. Gah.

Wait. What do you hate? My dismissal of CS:S as a significant game because it got coated with mascara? I don't like the gameplay. That's what I'm saying.
CS:S is just an example of a game ported to the source engine, and supposedly showing how "easy" it is. All I'm saying is that I'm disappointed with all that the Source engine port means. The sourse engine might be a nifty game engine, but it seems as if some people have the impression that its capable of copying real life to the tee. It looks good, but alot more 'meh' then I thought it would. Not because of the HL2 engine, but Dust just isn't a very complex map in terms of architecture. It was made for the HL engine, and essentially ported to the HL2 engine looking much the same.

It was pretty damn great. The models and what not were amazing and just gives me that urge to buy HL2.
