are there any
yea like last year (before i discovered NS) i became a real fan of an MMORPG called Biosfear (my first MMORPG tbh), wich was still in its beta stages at that time. After about a month or so of playing, they announced that the game was going to be p2p (pay to play) and i decided to quit. Once I quit though, i sort of missed that genre of games where 100s of people on one server could interact in a gigantic virtual world. So i searched and searched...eventually i found open betas for world of warcraft and some other games. But i knew that soon enough those would require payment once the beta testing was over.
Some other mmorpgs like everquest//lineage 2(which i think a bunch of ex-ns players play)//ultima online//helbreath required monthly payments which i didn't want to or couldn't make.
SOoooooOO i was just wondering..are there any free MMORPGS i could play out there that don't require some monthly payment?

Knight Online is no beta. Its a free game.
Guildwars is an MMORPG and a damn good one to boot. Were you living under a rock when Guildwars: E3 for Everyone was around?

Why not? Servers not support it? Pfft. There isn't a limit, and you should know that DOOMeh. If the MMO-making-people get one hell of a server, like those backing MMORPGs, they certainly could pull it off.
As for free MMOs, there is only one I know of, but its still far from completion, but you can play it all you want. Planeshift
Its still in alpha stage, but at least they finally implemented fighting

Linkage Boosey???

If the gameplay of Guild Wars doesn't change from the E3 beta, then I personally wouldn't consider Guild Wars a MMO. There was nothing 'massive' about it.

There are parts, it has the right to be called MMO.

No, you can't.
There's no way in hell HL2 can support 1000 people on the same server. It just isn't possible.

Which parts? While I don't know what combat options are like in the full version (ie raid style involving possibly 100s), what was available in the E3 version was, at best, party vs party combat. The quests were in a party of 8 or so, and you encountered no other person. The most massive thing about it wasn't involving combat, which makes it a glorified chat program.
Yep, you just need a working copy of UO (I'm glad I got T2A, TD/REN and AoS here ) which can also be downloaded from various gamingpages (called "trialversion" - but it's the full beliefe me)
and than... get an account on a free shard you want to play on... I'm playing UO "for free" on that free shards since 2000 now

Yes, you can. You get massive servers for each "Zone", or map. You make the maps relatively small, but very detailed within. Then, you beowulf cluster all of them as one "Server". From there, you just send messages to people in other zones by using a /tell command or something like that, that will go to the Overlord server(the one taking and sending requests), it will perform a search for that person's name, send the tell to them from there, and tahdah- instant MMO.
Not to mention, as mentioned in many videos: HL2's code can take very much so upward of 5,000 people with a powerful enough server. Just get one of the servers that usually does power MMOs, and tahdah.
