    wats the policy with regards to texture limits and official guidelines? mines currently on 4 and a half meg cos of all the custom textures like the targets, signs etc

    Don't bother with limits, Ur map is for offline play (isn't ?). Limits are there only to save server cpu usage.

    The texture limit is for backwards compatability with older GFX cards. I think Charlie is gonna want a map that follows the mapping guidelines.

    I know about that, but PC equipped with Woodoo 1 or Riva 128 isn't able to draw NS smoothly. I had P3 450Mhz + Matrox G400 and I've hardly got 24fps.

    As far as scaling things back goes, I can bring down the current size of the voice files by more than half and have no loss in quality at all. 128k MP3 is way too big for simple microphone recordings... I can drop the presentation to 64k and the radio files even less than that and I guanantee you won't tell the difference. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    I've written some scripts for the 2nd half voice files based on the notes you gave me, Meat... Looks like I should be able to record them this weekend.

    Something you may want to try with the textures..especially if you have signs that are just words (no borders) - putting 4 textures into one 256x256 texture...so rather than having 4 256x64 textures (for long sideways text) you just have one single texture.. I'm not sure on the savings in this - but surely a single texture that only has to have 1 palette (instead of 4 textures with 4 individual palettes) would be a more size efficient option. Yes..I am convinced that would be the case. Because each texture (being 8-bit paletted) would have to have in the file palette information ... I'm rambling now...but I hope this helps..I've used this before..and it's quite efficient I believe..

    Basically, an US Navy vessel owned and operated by the Navy has an USS desigination (United States Ship), Since the TSA owns/operates the ship, a prefix of TSAS (Trans System Authority Ship)
    I always thought that the TSA would use a TSAS prefix, makes snese and it sounds good

    (Plus, if we follow the naming procedure of the us navy, a vessel owned by the navy but operated by civillans (USNS prefix, United States Navy Ship) would be TSANS, wich has a nice ring to it. Also, that article has some naming suggestions for classes. Sorry for the overabundance of information, My dad worked for the Navy and i'm a veritable encyclopedia of information)

    'The Darwinian' sounds a little more maritime, and 'Olympiad class' sounds plain <i>big</i>, which is the feeling we're trying to get across.

    think ill just stick with "The TSAS Darwin" besides ive allready PM'd enforcer about it to see if he'd like to do the texture.

    progress today: decided to redo a corridor, got the model for the stasis tubes, bout it

    p.s. anyone know how to change the back colour for the 3D view in hammer, black is such a stupid colour considering how most textures are dark in nature

    Go to Options, click on the 3D View tab and at the bottom is a button to select background color.

    Bit of a snag...

    My microphone has died on me... It's not too bad though, it's just a broken wire near the base of it... I'll have to resolder it. I didn't plan on getting the recordings done till the weekend anyway, but I had some extra time tonight and was going to try to get some done early. Guess that's not gonna happen but they should still be on time, around monday or so. I did get a hilarious (to me, anyway) <a href='http://civic-minded.com/albums/TestStuff/Outtake.mp3' target='_blank'>outtake</a> out of it though...
