Here's my first compile of the airlock. There's a lot left to do in it, and I'm going to be turning this into a hive once I can bear to cut everything up, but here it is so far.

That is just beautiful, and i like how you've managed to keep the style and colours consistent in all the screenshots while each area still looks entirely unique.

Thanks for the compliments guys. Here it is infested
ive been watching this map as its come along the whole time i like your style and how your pretty creative with texture use even though this last shoot looks good it still dosent seem to have the same feal as the others some one please tell me if im wrong
I recommend dropping the overall light level of that hive; it's a tad bright, and some more contrast would be nice. For example, how about positioning some of the lights so that hanging crate casts a nice shadow, without making it too obviously "I pointed a spot at this crate so it'll make a shadow"-y? Knawmean? There are some shadows already, and they're nice, but I think if you remove a couple of the bigger lights to reduce the overall brightness, the contrast will go up and the whole place will be moodier.
seriusly you know how to do a map
the airlock hive could use a little more infestation. and you might want to darken or remove some of the white lights to make it more "infested". keep the orange ones tho.
Very nice work as usual
Altough this hive seems very "fresh", it gives the impression that it's here since only 1 week..(correct english?) Like the others said, you could add more infestation and "broke" some lights. But in an other point of view, the players (especially the marines) will certainly prefer it as it is right now (bright and not very "confused") so..

I agree with quite alot of the comments, the hive does seem pretty fresh looking back on it. Although maybe the background information fits in with it and thats why the hive appears to be as it is?

Thanks for the feedback. I think at the moment I'm going to concentrate on getting the map into a playable state, but once that's done there will be a lot of tweaking going on.
As far as the backstory is concerned this is supposed to have been the first location that was infested, but since its a cold sterile airlock its probably the least conducive of the three hive locations. I wasn't really thinking about this when I made it. I just liked the airlock and didn't want to tear it up more than I had to.
well... moultano. honestly. ever since you posted the first screenshot in the screenshots thread i've been watching this. it's really fantastic. always original, always beautiful, and this is certainly no exception. however, i feel this hive does have a certain major dissadvantage. it is almost entirely open. I can't see exactly how it is set up, but a few marines with lmgs or hmgs are going to sit back at the entrance and rain fire on it from afar, while skulks desparately attempt to close the gap between them and their assailants. Now i may feel all this in vain if there is but a single entrance to the hive and it is rather close to the entrance. Still, might i suggest a few more of those nice big boxes? Or better yet, some large moving equipment. As i said before, stunning from every angle.
i think everyone should take a lesson from moultano in creating a hive area... note that he built an entire room as it was before, and then infested it... instead of building it already-infested. gj!!@!

I took some updated shots for the upcoming RR.org feature. They are pretty large, but they are much better quality shots than what I normally take (antialiasing and whatnot)
You can find them here.
Life is slowing down a little bit. The job fair is over, my 21st birthday has come and gone, so hopefully I'll have more time to map.
the first shot has almost only white lights, except that purple blue lights coming out somwhere in the right. the room could maybe look even better with some more coloured lighting. that purple feels very nice, and i think orange light coming below that assembly line would look pretty cool.
purple.. orange.. meh.
2nd pic: the pit in the centre with railings, why are there buttons on the railing? looks a bit odd =P
seeing as the room is the ms i understand it should be brighter than the rest of the map, but that's just too bright. and white. maybe tone those lights on the wall down and change the colour of the lights coming from the roof. i dunno what though.
3rd pic, it looks very nice, but id imagine "steam tunnels" a bit foggier and darker, hmm? also that is going to be hell for aliens, unless skulks can fit under the grating. or you add some clever vents.

I agree with Grizzly about the cables though, the DukeNukem3D look just doesn't cut it anymore with HL2 'round the corner.
Otherwise I'm loving the pics, but also agree with the consensus on the Hive being too bright. Make some safe and shadowy corners for players to gorge to when they want to put up the Hive.
Also is there something you could work into the room to shield the RT from 50m Marine fire? I think it needs a little more protection, but don't go overboard and don't spoil the look of the room (a tall order but you're obviously up to the challenge).
THis one is a Top 5 Best maps ever. If it plays the way it looks then you got an official map in your hands Moultano. Really cool work, hope you finish it soon so we can playtest it. Niec.
