Valve are being very clever, by making downloading the game off Steam very appealing. Vivendi are going to lose out big time..and they should, considering Valve payed for most of the production of Hl2 out of their own pockets.

Damn Vivendi freeloaders arent seeing a penny of my cash!

Surely it has to as "Vampires : The Masquerade" is being developed on the Source engine?

Source has been done for probably 2 years now. Source isn't HL2.

Eh? Far as I knew, CS:S was the HL2 multiplayer. Comes with it. At least, that's what I'm getting. :3

Yes, but if you buy hl2 via steam you get to play cs:s next week.
• ZekZek Join Date: 2002-11-10 Member: 7962Members, NS1 Playtester, Constellation, Reinforced - Shadow
The full version of CS:S will be available immediately to anyone who buys one of the Steam packages when they're purchasable next week. People who pick it up retail will have to wait 2+ months for it. We still don't know if HL2 will have its own multiplayer or not, though I'm definitely starting to think it won't judging by the fact the Valve hasn't given a straight answer yet.

There was Vampire: The Masquerade: Redemption (though the punctuation was no doubt a little different, and since Bloodlines is a WoD game I think you need to be a little less picky.

there is no hl2 gold. If it came out at the same time as half life2, nobody would buy regular hl2.
And also they wouldn't be able to make a gold version later on
(WHY make it later on??? TO MAKE MORE MONEY SUKA!!!)

I was totally ignored in the other HL2 thread so i'll ask again.

Physical data like CDs have some material weight to them, my hard drive is more "volitle" I suppose you could say. Steam certainly won't be around forever, what happens if it goes down and I don't have a hardcopy?

Kinda like CS:CZ, bought that over steam too (stupid me) and now I don't have any hardcopy (unless you can't steam servers).

e/ oh and here's a little something concocted by boredom:

I'm pretty sure there'd be some way to burn your games to a CD, either soon or when Steam is nearing closure.
• UKchaosUKchaos Join Date: 2002-08-10 Member: 1132Members
Im finding it hard to believe people are actually worried about about the possibility of not being able to play their £30 steam game in 10 years time.

In the remote chance that Valve go bust within 10 years (they wont), they will simply see their assets on to another company. Im sure many publishers would love to have the distribution rights to Half-life2, CS:S and by that time, probably HL3, CS2, TF2, DOD2 etc.

When steam starts on your comp, it connects to the steam servers on the internet, if it can't it goes to off-line mode. In 50 yrs when steaam is shut down, you'll still be able to play in off-line mode. IMO

You people talk about 10 years from now... 10 years from now HL2 will be $5 at Half Priced Books so when that disaster hits it won't even be a disaster. So stop your bitching and promote the future distribution model.

Those 3 days are going to be the worst 3 days of my life.

Although, if Valve can't release on steam until it's in the shops, wouldn't it delay the Steam release until it available worldwide? otherwise, us poor europeans could get it before it's in the shops over here.

Although i'm still going to wait for the CE, i need the DVD
