    Ok, this one lacked the realistic quality.. I'd say switch back to glass ceilings. Also.. what are those white things?

    Sky is not a bad thing. Cheery/happy sky is. Try for night time, or storm clouds. And I -really- do think you should try for that lightning through the trees thing. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

    Also.. it just seemed grey. Not spooky or creepy... more dreary. Like a room that's lit, but there aren't any actual lights or something. No lighting contrast at all. A flash of lightning or two would fix this.

    The white things are lightbulps :-).
    Well i guess i will go back to the glass thingy ...
    Concerning the light through the trees ... well the hl engine cannot generate such accurate shadows so just forget about it .... :-/

    sim you coudl make an animated texture and let it sync with the lightning, you could put the shadows in that texture.....

    Eh, but then the lightning isn't random. Didn't someone in here have this really cool light through ceiling-windows effect? Could you use that to add detail to the shadows? (As in make that effect (however they made it.. I think it was a texture of some sort) to add detail to the shadows by cutting away the big blocky shadows of the solid trees? Or why not just do big blocky solid trees? I'm sure the lighting would be decent...

    I really like Molec's idea about the tree shadow lighting effect. It makes me wish my level wasn't hundreds of feet underground, so that I could have a window with some big trees looming over head... and the shadows... mmm...

    About your comment that fine little shadows can't be done in Half-Life. Hehe, I made a very similar comment a while back too... But trust me, you can trick the engine into doing anything you want if you apply yourself.

    /me goes off to make a 70,000 poly forest in a lightning storm just to help contain my desire for such an effect... (Not to be used in anything, of course...)

    From what I gather from the video, it's not an entirely outdoor map, just a map with a few sunny areas.  I liked the first video more than the second.  The arches reminded me of Serious Sam.  That means it is good <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->

    Also, so what if it doesn't meet standards for "officialdom?"  You can just make it a custom map.  Nobody said you can't make a custom map unless I am mistaken D:

    This is certainly a map on my highest quality list. Soon to be wiped out by the NS maps nother-the-less. Good job though.

    But still, i think sim should finish this map. Just now i saw the new movie, and it's really fine, its indoors AND a greenhouse.. it should be a little bit more open, but i like the nature setting so much; after all, its natural-selection wich is based all around survival of the fittest in nature... -> why would aliens go and like iron and stuff, when thats made by man? they didn't meet men before, so my guess would be that they liked nature more then iron and ships. However, that does not give it the good look.

    Sim, you must finish your map. If you could make the lights more realistic (i didn't see them as lights too...) this could be a really nice looking map. Now all you need is a good layout...

    Yeah, that's unfortunately because we were having problems with network traffic, and so had to cut down on the amount that is loaded to people's computers on each page.
