Fileplanet pulled the download link down. Someone figured out how to get free subscriber accounts, get the secure download link, and the pre download unencrypter... So now nobody gets the demo... lots of subscribers very unhappy on the forum.

I cant remember last time it was such a bloody fuzz over a little <i>demo</i>, which have already been shown on console even. Exclusive demos <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/confused-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="???" border="0" alt="confused-fix.gif" />
Already on that for the past hour or 2. Im getting a slow speed tho around 20-50kbs, but my entire net seems to be going slow, so Ill wait it out as the ETA is 12-20 hours, and I plan on going to the local lan cafe anyway and then a pub.
Owning a Fileplanet account and being robbed of a demo £30 Knowing where to get the demo for free Priceless.
Getting the demo at slow speeds, anoying. Coming home after a night out and playing a horror survival game drunk. Scary.
Seriously, I was wondering why stuff was so slow until I saw the Slashdot article. Apparently there's still a way around it (dropping TCP packets or some weird network garble I don't understand) but since I'm moving to college in 2 days there's no point, but if I had to deal with it you can bet they'd get an angry letter and perhaps a cancellation.
so far, reviews of BioShock according to GameRankings.com have an average of 99/100. In other words, the game has a perfect score from pretty much every reviewer who's touched it so far. that's for the xbox version though. the PC version's reviewers are a little more scathing, with a 96/100 average.

I've played the PC demo. I have an X1800XT 512 meg, 3700+ processor and two gigs of memory. It runs well enough, only dropping some frames in heavy combat.
It. Is.
<b>Awesome.</b>
The a part of the leadup actually made me draw a sharp breath as a reveal was made.
Two small complaints: All the text is huge. Really huge. A symptom of a console game. The hacking is merely passable. I'd've liked it to be a bit more mentally <b>taxi</b>ng. Geddit? Lulz.
If the text is huge, turn up your resolution or something. Or maybe they just like it that way <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
I think there might be an option in one of the settings menus about text size, but I was fine with the text size so I didn't try it.
played the demo (it downloaded on steam in like 20 minutes). omg teh secks. I have a somewhat high-end system but the framerate still wasn't as smooth as I'd have liked... but that's one small complaint in a sea of praise. totally haven't played something so atmospheric and engrossing in ages... maybe since Chrono Trigger or Ultima Underworld 2 <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
I played through it twice. The first time was decently scary. The second time wasn't scary at all. The graphics are great, but a bit overly shiny at times. The AI seems pretty nonexistent: it's either A. ignore, or B. run straight at the player. The game runs quickly enough that it's usually not noticeable, but it certainly seems like they didn't bother to put any tactics in.
The thing that confuses me about the game is definitely the enemy characters. If they're supposed to have gone mad, killing each other, why does the demo show most of them working together? Why am I not given a chance to do the same?
Still, great game, but my opinion about the enemies pretty much remained the same from what I saw in the trailers. They don't seem smart enough. They instead seem to be dolls set up for me to trip with the various plasmids and weapons, falling more into the realm of a tech demo, rather than a valid single player campaign.
Perhaps the full version will improve upon this, but I'm getting the feeling the whole game is going to be pretty much the same.
The atmosphere is superb. I wish the demo wasn't so bent on me moving forward, as I found the casual pace through the level to find out all the "secrets" actually a little more entertaining. That aspect of the demo is what intrigued me the most in System Shock 2, and it's nice to see that it has been repeated for this game (although I hope the degree of information dispensation and the amount of interacting with the surroundings is increased in the full game, because the environment was pretty sparse in the demo).
Regardless of my quibbles, I think this game is probably going on my "Buy" list, after I buy a new video card (to increase the frame rates) and the clearer-thinking reviews start to show up.

Well, I played the PC Demo now too.
Performance wise, I was surprised- my system doing that well was pretty frickin' awesome. Can't wait to get my new video card(somewhere down the road...)
And Medhead: Just wanted to say, the demo definitely made it a little too easy. I've seen videos of later scenes where you take 5+ enemies at a time, and don't have them all jumping into a pool of water at the same time when they do it. Thats where I think the AI probably starts shining.
I'm gonna be playing it, at least at first, on my 360 though. Hard to beat 7.1 Surround Sound and a 42" Plasma HDTV, that runs it all super-smooth. Ah, I can't wait til Wednesday...(gamefly lawl)

I think the reason is that, as a newcomer to Rapture, you may have Adam that they want, and they know you wouldn't give it over willingly.

This game will be subject to the same spoiler restrictions that anything else is. If you give away anything about the plot in the first month after release, you will be banned until after it.

Dissapointed that I couldnt fry myself standing in water using electro plasmid. Overall to me, this feels like just another shooter with excellent gfx and water.
