There is stealthboys for ultra stealth or replacement for crappy sneak characters but otherwise I wouldn't rely on it much, maybe if you approach a area with obvious patrols or something you could sneak by and not waste as much ammo. IIRC, once you have been detected (long or short range) they pretty much have you in their sights til you kill em.

Surely you mean flashlight, maybe even radio but that would be silly. Entire thing can't be shut off. The only tip I've seen pointed to the light.

Secret to Having Fun: Don't be supremely evil.
When you go and decimate every quest hub you come across...well, its hard to have fun. I've now started anew, and am focusing on talkin' my way out of problems, being a good person, and when those 2 fail, pistol executions.
If you're playing the 360 version hold the b button to toggle the pipboy light.
Not to mention that when sneaking and first successful shot will always be a critical. Resulting in massive damage or possible instantaneous death for the target. On top of that even if discovered if you're in a ranged firefight crouching/sneaking helps improve your aim. Another thing about sneaking is your party members will always open fire on enemies that they deem too close for comfort.
I am like two seconds away from cranking the combat up to hard, since I got Clover and gave her an assualt rifle I haven't gotten into a tight spot yet. Not against the muties or the regulators.
I think my sneak is at 70 right now. I have twelve stealthboys that are not being used =P
You can avoid a firefight if detected. Just run like hell. Trust me, I've ran away from raiders and super muties the like. Eventually they run outta breath or get bored, whatever the reason they stop chasing.
On another note... I think I've found all the party characters or at least three of them so far. Clover at Paradise Falls, Jericho in Megaton and this ghoul dude who's name I forgot in the Underworld bar. It also seems that you don't have to give your party member any sort of medical aid. They tend to automatically heal.
I never bothered to before, but I just found out that it is impossible to target a child to kill. HOWEVER, I might just mini-nuke one of them to be sure.
Sadly I just found out that untreated radiation doesn't really have an impact outside of lowering your S.P.E.C.I.A.L. and possibly your skills. I was kinda hoping to grow a third arm like in the slide show.
Bug report!!!! While playing the quest Reilly's Rangers I had clover as a party member and while trying to enter the tunnels to get back to the ranger command center I found that the silly ###### won't follow me. I tried like four or five times going in and out of the area. She just won't follow. Which begs the question, if I go through the entire tunnel system will she magically pop up on the other side waiting? Will she stay where she is? Or will her ###### take the long way around and get shot to death by muties?
I use stealth mainly because it tells me when my ass is about to get shot off. And I was going to party with Jericho when I got back in town, only to find him dead and floating in the irradiated water that crazy Church of Atom guy raves in. Not sure what went down there...

After missing two function keys I feel I need to explore my xbox pad a tad better.
Kay, so 52 hours in and I've exhausted all quest options except the main quest. Being as I want to experience the full game and not just part of it I am avoiding it.
Luckily I just reached lvl 20 and got the explorer perk, so more than likely there are some quests I may find out in the wastes before I go back on the main campaign.
Clover, my party member, died and Jericho dissapeared from Megaton. I ran into a robot dealer who's robot didn't like the fact that I was evil incarnate and wouldn't sell me his Mr. Gusty. I did however pick up dogmeat.
BUG!!!!! Underworld, there's this guy who asks you to kill someone in order to get the contract of a ghoul merc. I did as he asked and what happens? I don't get crap! I don't even get the option to buy the contract anymore. So this party member is just sitting there forever...

I just love Fallout 3. I have been playing somewhat much since I got it, but damn school stuff keeps getting in the way. [Insert all sorts of praise here].
Some odd stuff I've encountered, though: The Sheriff of Megaton disappeared I refused to blow the town up and went to warn the sheriff, who then went to confront mr Burke. And mr Burke showed up in a completely random location (Andale I think it was) to threaten me.
Also another side-quest character disappeared, or actually wasn't there in the first place: I found a recording that led me to recover The Naughty Nightwear and deliver it to some dude in some place. I got to the place and his house was empty. The other inhabitant of the place talked about and praised him, but he was nowhere to be found. Maybe it's like in Oblivion, where an important character wanders off into the wilderness and gets killed by an evil mountain lion, or something?
Also, my stealth character works pretty much as well as I thought it would. I have my sneak at 100 (+ a little from equipment, if it's possible to raise it above 100) and it works very well during the night and indoors in dark places. Super Mutants seem to be blind as bats, anyway. Sneak attack with a sniper rifle outdoors or an altogether stealthy approach with a super sledge indoors gives an advantage. Also making piles of mines in good spots for when the ###### eventually hits the fan can save you from a lot of pain.

Still running around doing side quests, not even touched tenpenny area yet. Who doesn't empty megaton of quests BEFORE detonation? I also hate long range combat against mutants, they are big, healthy and apparently perceptive as hell. Their miniguns and whatnot hurts me plenty at rather long distances, while I get a 25% chance on heads with snipers and scooped magnums. My primary skill is even small arms with aim enhancing perks. Torso shots are so dull and a ammo sinker. I'm also constantly encumbered, I have like 15 weapons in my inventory as using one constantly either makes it run out of ammo or wears it down to ######ty damage. It must suck to have a very bad repair skill.
Early in the game I saw a group of BoS with lazers and stuff get pwnd by a bunch of super muties (weak sort) with hunting rifles, wat. They really made powerarmor ######ty and forcing you to get "powerarmor training" before you can use one even.

Anyone else noticed middle-distance shots missing when they shouldn't while not using VATS? I suspect there's a % chance to hit even in normal combat, affected by distance.
