The SNIPER Update

Less bullety and more archery
http://www.teamfortress.com/sniperupdate/

QUOTE

Any experienced sniper will tell you how irritating it is when your targets keep moving around. The question is how to stop these cheaters from wind-sprinting around like they own the place. And the answer is to pin them to a wall. How? With arrows!
"Now, hold on," you might be thinking. "I'm strong, but no one could throw an arrow that hard." Introducing the Huntsman longbow, which solves that age-old throwing problem.
"Now, hold on," you keep saying. "Aren't bows and arrows primitive and harmless?" Why don't you ask the dinosaurs? Except you can't, because the cavemen bow and arrowed them to death. One headshot from the Huntsman can mean an instant crit, in addition to a bolt-riddled corpse hanging from a wall that's gruesome and funny.
And even if you don't kill them, they'll carry around a certain arrow-shaped something as a living testament to your awesome archery skills and their frankly unawesome dodging skills. Comes with 18 arrows and a one-second charge for full power shots.

Same damage with travel time, falloff and faster charge? Bootload of damage without zoom ability?? Close combat upgrade?! PIN LIVE ENEMIES AT WALLS WHILE GIVIN EM A GOOD THROBBIN WITH KUKRI?!!?
Discuss.

As a side note, I can't wait to see servers crowded with snipers getting unlocks. I am going to join 24/7 2fort servers just to see how many snipers line the battlements.
Also, DU KOMMER ATT SKJUTA DEM OCH DE KOMMER ATT FASTNA I VÄGGEN OCH DÖ
Nowhere does it say it pins live enemies to the wall, and I'm willing to bet it doesn't, because that would be a ridiculous pain to make work correctly. In fact, it basically says the opposite: if you don't kill them, they'll carry the arrow around in their body which sounds hilarious. I can't wait to see like 10 arrows sticking out of me when I'm a heavy.
you probably got the idea from "Any experienced sniper will tell you how irritating it is when your targets keep moving around. The question is how to stop these cheaters from wind-sprinting around like they own the place. And the answer is to pin them to a wall. How? With arrows!" - which I read to mean that it pins living targets to walls, too.
in MY day, TF had like 2 official maps, so we played user-made maps until our fingers bled, and we liked it.
You have noticed that each class upgrade pack comes with at least one new map right

Oh lawd this made my god damned day, thank you.

When it's released, follow me on friends and I'll let you go Kevin Costner on my ass to get your free bow quickly <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />
As for the forthcoming customisation update... I'll just leave that topic alone.
HUNT HUNT HUNT HE'S THE HUNTSMAAAAAN
Also worth noting is the sneak preview they showed of another unlockable the Sniper gets:

I imagine this is an item that does no damage but stuns the enemy for a while. This could actually be really useful for Snipers. If there's an enemy that's too close for comfort, they can chuck this and then use the stun time to get away. Especially useful for people using the Huntsman since it will be easier for people to get up in your business while you're trying to kill them. Just throw it and run away.

That would be silly, their sole weakness is getting close and personal and you want to let them have a weapon that can screw any class over? If the sniper cannot do any harm during the duration of the stun I'll reconsider it though.
Personally I hope for something like switching colors on teammates and enemies with some distort effect and damage effects/sounds scaring the crap out of you. Why this would be appropriate for an update, I have no idea.

The unlocks are supposed to be gimmicky- they're trying to inspire a new playstyle. They aren't catering to the CPL/CAL crowd, which kind of sucks, but frankly, I think the maps have gotten better and better. I always had significant problems with some of the original TF2 maps, and the ones that have come out from the fan-made world haven't had a lot of those same issues(i.e.: claustrophobic areas).
It's been awhile since I picked the game up so I'm not about to claim superior knowledge on this, but I've loved everything they've released- and I haven't even gotten one unlock.
Also the map looks like it's dark (set at night). Should be interesting.
Also two new arena maps. Does anyone even play arena? No one should play arena.

I said the same thing just 10 seconds ago, word.

Images ftw
I could swear I saw this map being mentioned a while ago. Perhaps it was slated for release in an earlier update, but didn't get finished in time? Anyway, I'm looking forward to this one.

There was a sneak peek of this map during the Scout update.
And does it replenish from ammo crates or just supply cabinets (or does it even require rapid class changing?)?
No, I was just trying to highlight the absurdity of arena maps and the kind of people they attract. TF2 is a team based objective game and valve should have never made the arena mode. The maps are absolutely ###### gorgeous but the talent is just completely wasted on HURRR TF2 SHULD BE LIEK CS NO RESPAWNS.
