I'm really dissapointed in the Force-A-Nature. I shot a Sniper twice from behind at a zero distance and he didn't even die. I wonder how I'm supposed to get kills from behind (the achievement) if I can't even kill someone by surprise.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Did you aim for the head?

Anyways... After playing this update I have a few more comments.

    1. Jarate is really fun. It doesn't look like a jar of (realistic) piss, so I think of it more like magic golden water... Which makes me get lots of assists and helps me kill them faster. It sucks because then I don't have an SMG, but once I have the Huntsman I think I'll like it even more.

    2. The unlock system has its ups and downs.

The upsides are that I was really happy when I got my Jarate, there aren't a crazy amount of spies/snipers, and the best thing... Achievements are actually fun now. I was just doing them because I was bored of killing people the normal way, so I pulled up the list and looked for some that looked like fun. And they were. I wasn't chasing a carrot, I was just enjoying the achievements for their own value.

The problem with the system is that there are a ridiculous number of afk people, and it sucks to not be able to try out these new things with the release of an update. If they didn't hype up the releases I'd love it, but as it is I want to try out the new stuff. I don't want to play for hours to MAYBE get to try one of them out.

    3. This bares repeating: Achievements are actually fun. I felt rewarded when I threw my Jarate and soaked 4 enemies, or when I taunted after killing someone. It's another way to play and enjoy the game now, rather than a means to an end. I'm not sure when I'll have the opportunity to slash 3 people after soaking them with Jarate, but I'm looking forward to it. :-)

Hmm, that is weird... I have no trouble 2shotting snipers, first shot launches them into the air making them sitting ducks, then simply close in for the killshot. timing the second shot is a must in an open area (STRAFE A LOT vs new snipers, that bow is nasty!). Or even better if they are near a wall shoot both buckshots in their face, while aiming them into the wall. 9/10 dead sniper...

I have killed pyros headon with their flamer on me, leaves me burning with 50-30hp and looking for medic/dispenser/medkit. Just hope they don't get critpower <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

<i>Anyone else have the sandman out on defense (stunning an uber medic is funny as hell... for me... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />) and the normal bat for tripplejump fun on offense/ctf?</i>

    Stuff I got sofar are <!--coloro:red--><span style="color:red"><!--/coloro-->3 sandviches +org, 2 natasha's +org, 1 Sandman +org, 1 vampire +org<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc--> and The Ambassador. I'm not happy about this nonsense...

I've only gotten the Huntsman and the KGB (which I already had from before). I've gotten zero items today <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

I played some more Scout. I already knew it, but man, Scout on Gravelpit is madness. MADNESS! I got 8 kills in one life at most. And at least twice I got >5 kills/life. I'm starting to appreciate the Force-A-Nature more now. I still don't understand how the sniper didn't die in the earlier mentioned scenario. However, I managed to kill lots of doods by surprise (including snipers) from behind. I got like 10/50 or more of the "Caught Napping" achievement already <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

The knockback is very handy in certain situations. I could throw people off the tower (point C in gravelpit), throw rocketjumping soldiers back and detect spies. Great for keeping pyros away, too. Reloading is a slight disadvantage, but if there's room to move around, I'll spend the time to pull some daring evasive maneuver and attack from a different direction.

I don't know if the Razorback works at all. For all I know it could be the equivalent of sticking a post-it on your back saying "please don't shiv me, I'm a bleeder." But hey, if spies don't dare stab me, I guess it does work as advertised.

It does work, I tried to riskily stab a snipers shield then cloak away with the CnD but his friends got me, your knife sort of freezes in the "backstab ready" position with a bzzt noise

Speaking of scooting around, had some great fun with that as RED in pl_hoodoo.
At least, once I figured out that you could doublejump onto the corrugated sheets overhanging the entryway into the area of the second cap point, and from there into the window you can only walk up into from the other side (which gets difficult once BLU has the first point).

I don't think so, but the pyro *can* set the arrows of a friendly sniper on fire. I don't know if it does extra damage (it probably does), but it certainly looks badass.

Also, even though I feel kind of a tool for it, I've been playing spy a lot since the spy update was announced. I've never really played spy before (I had 40 hours on demo and 20-30 on all the other classes, and 1 on spy) but it's REALLY REALLY FUN. It also makes me go "woooooo!" and dance in my chair when I pull off something awesome that everyone else thinks is skill but I know is utter luck.
  • SvenpaSvenpa Wait, what? Join Date: 2004-01-03 Member: 25012Members, Constellation
Busted: You CANNOT airblast arrows, poop.

I really love the "Mini crit!" when you hit someone who is under the effects of Jarate.

Huntsman seem too powerful, scoring 150 damage if a arrow hits anywhere and tripple damage on HS. The only real weakness is long range, but even then you can overcome regular snipers with your faster shooting and mobility. Now they have become way too good in close combat, not even sacrificing the kukri for Jarate :/

Jumped on TF2 for the first time in ages just to see what it was like. I don't even know what I unlocked :p

Thing for me is that I play pyro/medic and I've got the unlocks I care about already for them so it's all kinda moot for me.
That said, I'm kinda surprised I'm still such a crazy accurate shot with the flaregun after all this time...

Unfortunately it seems that while the death for cloak and dagger is quite convincing, it doesn't stop you being set on fire, so outside of being confusing for a pyro it rarely stops them killing you properly. 'Course I say this from the Pyro's side, I didn't bother with spy personally :D

Noticed a few snipers being frisky with the bow and arrow but they're fairly easy to dodge; the travel time doesn't help the arrow much over long distances either. I don't really play snipe but I do like bows and arrows so I might give it a shot if I unlock it :p

With all these hats and stuff coming I wonder if Valve has ever considered unlockable female versions of the classes, like the ones from 'nerfnow' or something XD
  • lolfighterlolfighter Snark, Dire Join Date: 2003-04-20 Member: 15693Members
Probably considered and rejected. Think of the immense amount of work that would take. Aside from making new models and animations for everything, they'd also have to hire new voice actors. And the spy would end up looking sexist for saying "gentlemen."
  • TychoCelchuuuTychoCelchuuu Anememone Join Date: 2002-03-23 Member: 345Members
And they'd have to find a way to make the male model for the Pyro look different.

I know it wouldn't exactly be a small amount of work but it'd be nice and add a bit more to the game. The current characters are pretty fun but there's a difference between 'a cool character' and 'a cool character you want to play' which is why I tend to stick to Pyro (the writer of nerf now also seems to be a Pyro fan for the most part though they've given the other classes a bit more love in recent comics :p ). If we had a cute engineer or svelte medic I'd probably diversify my class play on a more regular basis :3

As for the pyro, it depends how much you want to do. If you want the male and female ones to not differ much all you'd need is new animations and voices, you could use the same model (the big asbestos suit isn't exactly figure hugging).

I guess one issue is how limited in diversity guys make female characters... that and less than pretty female characters tend not to be well received so a 'big bertha' for the HW Girl wouldn't see much use likely; they'd have to make her Amazonian or something I guess instead.

<b>edit:</b> doubt anyone would care much about the 'gentlemen' of the spy either. It tends to be guys who are more bothered about that kind of 'sexist' stuff than girls anyhoo :p
  • lolfighterlolfighter Snark, Dire Join Date: 2003-04-20 Member: 15693Members
Yeah, I don't think the "gentlemen" thing is the one snag that prevents all of this from coming true.

like most issues, this is another one I'm sure I'm in the minority on. So sick of lack of variety in female characters in video games. I would love it if there were women of all shapes and sizes in video games (and movies for that matter). It's as though men can be any shape but women are all clones. No wonder most women in our society have terrible self esteem. Pet peeve of mine.

The flip side of that is that you end up with all races / genders crammed into something simply for the sake of "diversity" rather than any real need for it. Which is just as annoying. And is, amusingly enough, a pet peeve of mine. We should have a death match to see who's side is best.

I've got the perfect idea for the game, it's you in the intro feeling sympathetic towards their plight but then it just cuts to you screaming about how you hate them, hate how they look and that they stink like a pig. But whatever, TF2

The cloak and dagger is fun! and stickman got one! we had fun with it :3

    Putting aside that fascinating conversation:

You still get unlocks upon achieving a milestone. It says:

    XXXXXX has earned: Achievement Blah
    XXXXXX has earned: Milestone 1
    XXXXXX has found: Weapon Unlock!

    I've seen it happen. Twice.

So if you want a specific unlock you can still do the achievements and earn it the old way.

It's not a world issue, it's a western world issue. People who can't get enough to eat are still a bigger issue that people who eat too much.

But there IS a game that tackles it, and quite hilariously at that: Fat Princess.
