So... was I the only one who noticed that the spy SLID a sapper at the engineer's turret? Or that the turret looked like it lost a level before it died? :o<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Did you notice the part in Meet the Demoman where the Sentry Gun fired at the pipe bombs instead of at the Demoman? Did you notice the part in Meet the Scout when he strangled the Heavy with a bat? Or when he ate the Heavy's sandwich? Or did you notice the part in Meet the Sniper when his bullet went through the Heavy and hit the Demoman? Or did you notice the part in Meet the Engineer where he had more than one Sentry Gun going at the same time?

I think you will find that if you get excited about perceived gameplay changes in the Meet the... videos, you're going to be disappointed when they never, ever, show up.

    It also failed miserably. Twice.

Your impoverished knowledge of Star Wars appears to exclude the parts where the Death Stars killed, among other things, Alderaan and two large ships.

That part's authentic though. Dropped sandwiches restore health. And the scout even gets MORE health than others do.

For the cost of building the two of them, a single planet and two battleships is a terrible payoff. They failed. It's like building an aircraft carrier and sinking a fishing boat, then having the carrier explode because a fish bumped into it.

I have to admit, I am rather amused that they actually put in Jarate.

That being said, I don't know if I really like what they have done with the sniper, as they have basically stopped him from being a sniper, and turned him into an assault class.
  • lolfighterlolfighter Snark, Dire Join Date: 2003-04-20 Member: 15693Members
I'm going to wait until I've seen how it actually works. He can still snipe as much as he wants to as long as he uses his old equipment. And a class with 125 health and no double jump or increased speed is not exactly a frontline fighter.

I agree, the only unlock I see being used WELL is the shield. Which is kinda why I am disappointed. The other 2 unlocks are just completely Meh (again). Sure, jarate -> kukuri is kind of nice. But instead you could just be using the kukuri for the entire time. It is like the entire fire -> axetinguisher thing. Sure, in theory it sounds good, but if you can reliably hit em with your axe? Just hit em with you axe, don't muck about with weapons switches.

A load out of Bow + Jar + Kukuri might be nice, but it will really just be a pure support roll (give every one else a 30% damage boost, with occasional bow shots). I guess this isn't that bad of a thing (the sniper really is a support class), but it isn't a SNIPER any more. It would be kind of like giving the pyro a flame thrower replace that doesn't burn people, but instead slows them down. Sure, it might be nice and useful, and a viable alternative, but he isn't a bloody pyro any more.

Perhaps naming him the Sniper wasn't the best idea; Huntsman or Crocodile Dundee might describe him better. They're trying to make him more than someone who just sits there in his own base playing a point and click adventure game, which I approve of.

I understand what they are doing, but it still kinda ticks me off as it really is a massive change to the class. Yah, it is probably for the better, but the inner TFC junky doesn't really like it.

    Fire
    Airblast into the air
    Switch to axtinguisher
    Hit them before they land
    Instakill on most classes

Tbh it's mostly just useful for running into a crowd of burning people (surrounding the cart or on a point) and hacking away. Besides that, it does more damage to people who are on fire than the regular axe. And if you're in axe-range and they're not on fire, you're doing pyro wrong.

The jarate could be a fantastic support weapon, depending on how long it takes to recharge and how far you can throw it.

The only time I really find the axe useful is when I'm up against a heavy. Puff of fire, and then two hits and he's dead.

Actually, works even better when I use the flaregun to light him up before I'm in axe range (while closing in on him).

So, anyone else notice the free trial period corresponding with the update? Does that mean we'll not only have a sniper/spy orgy, but also a whole ton of noobs? I'll probably spend the next week or so as my most hated class, pyro. Or not playing, either way.

I'm crossing my fingers for these to not be tied to achievements too. If they are I'll probably just groan and uninstall the game again until I get really bored or they finally change that retarded system.

No matter what ends up happening, I'd avoid TF2 for about a week to let things cool down, but even if the stuff is tied to achievements you can just use the unlocker and get all the items. That's what I did for Scout. And yes, Abra, the boxing gloves are good, but the other stuff sucks.

Natasha is actually quite useful since they buffed the slowdown a couple updates ago. Less damage BUT allows longer periods IN damage which often evens it out, also great for supporting teammates. The sandwich was something they made for heavies without a medic, allowing them to heal anywhere. However, the lack of shotgun is too big of a nerf with the total immobility while eating.

May as well post it for anyone who hasn't noticed (i.e. noone):

    <!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Maps

Added new map, Pipeline. Pipeline is the first map in a new game mode named payload race, which uses two carts in each map instead of only one like traditional payload maps

    Added new arena map Sawmill

    Added new arena map Nucleus

Added new community payload map Hoodoo

Updated Dustbowl to fix not being able to jump into the window in the first building of the second stage

    Sniper Changes

Added new sniper rifle replacement, The Huntsman. Instead of a sniper rifle, you have a bow that allows you to move around faster while firing, and fire more quickly than the sniper rifle. Works better at medium range than the standard rifle

Added new SMG replacement, Jarate. If thrown on an enemy they will take more damage for short period of time. Also extinguishes flames on yourself or allies

Added new SMG replacement, The Razorback. Will protect you against a single spy backstab, and stun the spy for a short period of time. Comes with a 15% move speed penalty for the wearer

Standard sniper rifle now shoots through friendly players

Added 54 new Sniper voice lines

    Added 35 new Sniper achievements

    Spy

Added new revolver replacement, The Ambassador. First shot is very accurate and will cause a critical hit if it hits an enemy's head. Accuracy is poor for a period after that

Added new watch replacement, the Dead Ringer. When armed, you will appear in all ways to die to the first damage you take from an enemy. You'll be cloaked for 8 second after taking this damage. Upon de-cloaking you'll make a loud, distinct sound

Added new watch replacement, the Cloak and Dagger. Your cloak meter is only depleted when you move, so you can stay invisible indefinitely if you're standing still

Spy name tags now show up properly when disguised as their own team

Fixed a bug that would cause spectators to see disguise weapons incorrectly

Fixed a bug where enemy spies disguised as friendly spies would have cigarettes that didn't burn

Fixed a bug where overhealing disguised spies would show the wrong overhealing amount to the medic

Made it more obvious on first person view model when your motion cloak is out of juice and you are partially visible

Also made it more obvious on first person view model when you're bumped while cloaked

Improved the way your disguise weapon is determined to make it clearer and fix a couple of rare issues

Spies disguised as enemy spies now get a random mask to help complete the disguise, and their target id will be set appropriately

Spies disguised as medics now have an Ubercharge: line in their disguise target info

Spies outward facing "disguise health" now matches their disguise target when they first apply the disguise

Spies can now pick up health kits for their "disguise health", even when uninjured

Disguise UI doesn't show up in minimum UI mode (hud_minmode)

Spies that disguise as a player using an unlockable now show that unlockable in hand

Spies can now use enemy teleporters

Added 70 new Spy voice lines

    Added 34 new Spy achievements

    Scoreboard changes

Dominations no longer get wiped when teams switch sides

Dead players draw slightly darker in scoreboard

Converted class labels to class icons

All players now display the total number of people they are dominating

    General

Fixed a bug that would cause the scout's ball to regenerate at inappropriate times

Demomen can now detonate their stickies while taunting

Flamethrower's air burst now extinguishes fire on friendly targets

Grenades and rockets deflected by a pyro under the effects of Kritzkrieg will now be criticals

The Heavy and Sniper now have new custom death animations

Fixed payload HUD not updating properly if you join in the middle of a match and the cart isn't moving

Engineer's dispensers now give 20%, 30%, or 40% of player's max_ammo (for each ammo type) on each use, based on the level of the dispenser

Added -sillygibs commandline parameter which will allow the non-violent gibs to be enabled

Added a new taunt for the Kritzkrieg, which also heals for 10 points

Improved the deathcam camera handling used when a player plays a custom death animation

Added missing chalkboard and serverbrowser images for community maps shipped in previous updates

Removed "Final" from map names in the serverbrowser quick list

    Servers

Added "sv_allow_voice_from_file" convar, which defaults to 1. When set to 0, it'll prevent clients from using the "voice_inputfromfile" feature to broadcast wav files over voice

Enabled "sv_allow_wait_command" convar, which defaults to 1. When set to 0, it'll prevent clients from using the "wait" command<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

"You now find new and old items as you play, instead of through achievements"

Way to #### it up twice as bad, Valve. Now I have to grind no matter what; I can't even unlock it through the Steam Achievement Manager.

Actually, if they are easy to find, I won't be mad, but if I have to grind for my freaking unlocks I'm going to be pissed.
