It didn't give me an option to send the info back to HQ when it crashed just now... basically the use of the rectangle tool causes crashes fairly consistently. I'm sure this is a known issue though. (it also doesn't generate faces very well (maybe 20% of the time) when created next to other geometry).

I might be totally missing something, since I've never mapped or done anything related before Spark, but for some reason I'm not able to create a lot of the faces I'm trying to. No matter how many times I draw the lines and vertices, create face or alt+c just does nothing. They're not created on the other side either, I've tried flipping them.
What's even more weird, on SOME of the faces redrawing the lines actually helped and the face was created automatically.
if you have edges over edges or vertices over vertices then that is usually your problem. you must also have the select tool active when creating faces otherwise they wont create.
The editor crash sometimes when i CTRL+Z ...... boring.
_ i can't find think like Vent for skulks etc.
Someone know how can i have a fast mapping lesson ? i know how to basicly use the tools, (see my screenshot in the last page of the other screenshot topic) but i dont know how to create my own model, what is geometry, what's the use of triangulation... etc
_ i find that's the circle tool, to rotate items, is difficult to use when not using ALT key. i clic on one of the circle for exemple the X axis, move the mouse everywhere and nothing move.. or randomly.
_ sometimes, when i resize an item, he just disappear Oo
_ sometimes we just want to place an item to see what it look, so we click somewhere, and it place stuck in the ground.. burried
_It would be nice to have some fast button for example 3buttons for rotation of selected item of 90° on X Y Z Axis. respectively
_Sometimes, side of an item are transparent.... what will be rendered in real game ? I have this problem with door in particulary their side are transparent
_Last but not least, the lock texture button is not working with me. It's always clicked-in, i can click on it as always as i want with a wall selected or not, nothing change.

Well hmm. I tried moving some of the trouble spots around but that didn't reveal anything under them. Also tried deleting stuff but that left nothing, like you would expect.
Finally gave into the pressure and pre-ordered the Special Edition of NS2 today so I could have a play about with the editor. Wonderful piece of software to use, until I came across a slight problem when adding a light into the mix.
Unfortunately I turn yellow when I use "Textured Lit". All of the props are also Yellow. <img src="http://www.lucidtek.co.uk/ns2editor/texturedlit.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

I'm not sure if this bug is directly related to the editor, but it seems that there is something wrong with the new pillar models. Rotating the model as shown in the image is not working as expected. Moreover, after these steps, moving the model doesn't seem to behave like it should, and is extremely difficult. I hope the image clarifies this a little. <img src="http://koti.mbnet.fi/tazu/pics/ns2/pillarmodbug.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

I am slowly going up the learning curve of using the editor. I still have a lot to learn. I am really impressed by the work that has been posted. My progress is being slowed by bugs. I may have missed some posts about bugs but there are a few that really make it hard to work smoothly. I hope I'm the only one with these problems. When rotating the entire structure (select all, [ctrl+a], rotate,q) one or more of the texture panels also rotates requiring it to be fixed. This is often a tedious process if you have to match it up with adjacent panels. Sometimes the sizing/rotation box will expand to huge dimensions requiring a zoom out almost to the limit. Then you have to re size it and zoom back in. These two bugs take up at least 15% to 20% of my time. Often only two axes of the rotate tool function, and the third rotate texture panels. Luckily I haven't had any crashes. I'm running a nvidia 8800GT
Still didn't get any responce on how to fix my bug ... or if anyone else gettin this bug...
The backgrounds of my perspectives are black ... not gray like in all the screenshots... there is no choice in changing this in "tools - settings - interface", so ye, I'm hoping someone can come with a solutions since the gridlines of props are black in the perspectives ... wich makes them near to invisible for me => I can't align props with walls or floors like this
Ok, I was a bit lazy and only read to page 5 and the last page, so I am not sure if this have been said yet.
I pre-ordered it today and therefor probably got latest version of spark, but while running it, I found some bugs.
The first is that I noticed that while being in the prop search thing, I do not see pictures of the models, just the same picture repeating itself showing basicly nothing at all.
The second is that when I made a corridor, deleted the face at end, I seem unable to recreate it (undo works though). The annoying thing about this is that it not only happens in this case, but also seem like randomly making rooms impossible to get closed. Sometimes it makes the face wrong dir though, but thats easily adjusted.
Some suggestions aswell
I would love some kind of merge option. I noticed I could remove lines, but if I then removed the vertexes that was at each side of the line, the faces disapere, when I wanted them to go together.
There should be a tool that is some kind of combination of move and extruding tool, so when you just made a corridor, extrude on end wall (makes new faces) you could moves those so the room expands, but the hole from corridor remains same size. So like move-tool on each wall of this room, except that it creates walls around holes, like the corridor. I had to extrude the sides (2 faces), then roof (3 faces) and remove 2 faces (from last action) instead of moving walls (2 faces) and then roof (1 face).
Make it possible to toggle "noclip" so you wouldnt have to hold rmb (for example hammer uses z as a toggle button).
Some kind of crop function, working alot like the extrude tool. I had a rotated surface (only on x-y axis) going from a vent down to a roof, seemed impossible to open the roof right. I tried extruding on vent surface, delete that surface, draw lines down for snap points for lines on roof and then make a face there and manipulate it, drag the vent trough the roof and open it like normal with a rectangle in normal angle, then drag lines to fill the holes around vent. Last thing worked, but it ended up as many faces there.
Otherwise I must say that spark sdk is great. Is there any way to set scroll speed for the 2d-screens (used rmb+wasd) though?
I was playing around trying to make a crawl space, but when I tried to create the faces it kinda' messed up. Video is below: <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85jrdPOZJE0" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85jrdPOZJE0</a>

Sometimes when you create a face, it may be on the side opposite of your view; check the other side of where you selected for your face. Also, if you have a lot of detail, you need to select each line the face would be touching otherwise the face cannot be created.

To exist, faces rely on vertexes more so than lines. If you want to join two faces together, make sure they are on the same plane, have a common line, and then delete the line. Deleting a vertex will always delete any faces which used that vertex.

If you had a hall started, you could use the line tool to draw a box around it and then use the move tool on each edge to make it the desired size--I don't think an extra tool is needed here.

I would think it easier to draw a box on your roof/ceiling, delete the face inside the box, draw connecting lines from the points of the box to your vent, and then create faces as needed.

After watching your video, the "bug" as you put it is not so much a bug but intended behavior although annoying your case. The extrude tool works great in specific cases but is not meant to be used 100% of the time--just like the box tool. It would have been much easier for you to connect your vent back to the wall by drawing a box on the wall first and then connecting that with your vent using the line tool.
The thing about the extrude tool is that it will always create new edges and faces and will _not_ use existing ones when it comes into contact with other edges/faces.

Drawing the rectangle face ontop of the roof did not work in the same angle as my vent (and rotating wouldnt work due to no snap points). I tried moving the end face of the vent to the roof (snaped on it) and delete it, did not create a hole though (my whole idea is that placing a face on another face and delete the first face would create a hole in the second). With no hole in the roof there is no use of connecting points to the vent.
*I understand that there is a light source intersected with a prop, but after the screen shot I moved it and got the same result just to make sure. Additionally, this intersection did not cause any problems on the better machine.
Since the build 130 it happens that at a certain point in building a level (room or corridor or whatever parts) the rectangle and line tools doesn't work anymore.
More than that, they crash the editor, by simply closing it at once and there's nothing else happening. In happens only for a specific file, and once a pass that "point" the same crash happens every time I try to use the rectangle or line tool in the same .level file.
It happens precisely when I move the mouse pointer with the rectangle or line tool over a surface or in the empty space. It seems that it crashes at the exact moment that the editor is about to draw or show the grid lines.
I lose my graphical display if I lock my PC. (ALT + CTRL + DEL > Lock Workstation)
The program doesn't crash, however the graphical section of the editor no longer refreshes. I have to shutdown the program and reopen it to resolve. I can still technically >use< Spark, but nothing displays in the View windows.
Windows XP SP3 Intel ® Core2 Duo CPU P8600 @ 2.40 GHz 3 GB RAM
I have pre ordered and installed the NS2 installer file and I am getting the following error when I try to start up the editor (I haven't even been asked for my product code yet).
Hopefully you guys can see the attachment alright.

Guess this is my bug :(
<img src="http://koti.mbnet.fi/tazu/pics/ns2/pillarmodbug.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
Same bug for me, except it seems to apply for all props under random rotation conditions.
When I launch the Editor through the Launch Pad, I get the 'black bug'.
When I launch it from the Editor shortcut/exe, no such problems. (And I didn't have it before the Launch Pad update.)
Edit: I also have a new bug that makes the editor more or less unusable.
Using the line tool creates the lines, but they do not appear in perspective mode.

Sometimes it makes the face wrong dir though, but thats easily adjusted.

Last thing worked, but it ended up as many faces there.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

The thing about the extrude tool is that it will always create new edges and faces and will _not_ use existing ones when it comes into contact with other edges/faces.

your best bet is to draw both vent entry/exit points onto that face. extrude 1 around like you did, but rather than extruding the last segment back to the wall, join up the vertices with the line tool and delete/create the necessary faces.

It was unable to create the face at all. I tried selecting the lines around it and do the create face command, drag a rectangle face at it, even draging a face TO the point. Undoing worked as I said, but in a room this happened where I hadnt made a face yet, while I was trying to complete a wall.

Deleting a vertex will always delete any faces which used that vertex.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
When you delete a line, the vertexes remain. My idea was making faces on the same position (except slightly different in z (height) axis in this case) being able to merge (so 4 instead of 6 vertexes).

Did not fully understand this, you mean I should make the faces around it, and have to tweak their depths and angle right and then work from there?
I do agree the tool is not rly needed though, as I can do this in otherways (and I did).

Problem is that it did not work.

Same here. Perhaps adding my details will help.
I'm running two different machines, but with two different results on the same level file, ruling out collision/vertex issues*.
The first computer runs fine:
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT
Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 920 Processor (4 CPUs), ~2.8GHz
Memory: 4094MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 11
<img src="http://samdobay.com/ns2/noshadow.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
The second computer, of admittedly lower specs but still higher than the minimum requirements by a good bit:
Processor: Intel® Core2 CPU 6300 @ 1.86GHz (2 CPUs), ~1.9GHz
Memory: 2048MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 11
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GT
Display Memory: 1263 MB
<img src="http://samdobay.com/ns2/shadows.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
*I understand that there is a light source intersected with a prop, but after the screen shot I moved it and got the same result just to make sure. Additionally, this intersection did not cause any problems on the better machine.
=====================================================
Edit:
Tried it on a third machine: My laptop. Works fine.
Video Card: NVidia GEForce 8600M GT
Video Memory: 1008mb
System RAM: 2048 MB
Processor: Intel Core2Duo T5250 @1.50ghz
Windows XP SP3
Intel ® Core2 Duo CPU
P8600 @ 2.40 GHz
3 GB RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650
Hopefully you guys can see the attachment alright.
