The trim along with the red lights are somewhat the theme of the room, but I might remove some .. gotta agree that when I look at it, there's a lot of them, I find the ones over the hive adequate and give an evil and dark feeling about it. I'll check that out.
Yeah, for some reason it reminded me of the Nar Shaddaa levels from the first Jedi Knight game with the greys accented with the red lights and the slopes leading off in the distance. Good memories tho, but I agree with the posted comments. I Definitely think that for an alien start it's lacking the ominous grandeur that a hive should have to scare those marines off.
*edited* I think my first attempt at a post was too long, so now ill make it short and sweet, just some screens of some rooms ive been trying out, never mapped before so its all new to me, anyways enjoy, tips on improvements much appreciated

I agree.. too dark
I haven't completely finished the ceilings on these, just lookin to get some feedback on whats there before I go too crazy with the ceiling.
That looks really nice, Yoda. You've got a lot of colors going but if the warmer lighting continues down that hallway and the cooler lighting continues down the other one I think it's fine. I wouldn't change a thing. I mean, I'd add ceilings, but I know that's on the to-do list :p
@monkey: that elevator shaft looks awesome... but yeah other shots are a bit too dark.
@yoda: I love that section on the right in the second shot, looks like quite a sharp transition in colours but I think it'll probably work, and it looks smexy.
Yoda: It looks really nice. Only thing that needs work I think is the theme. I use to make theme of places, corridors and especially rooms. Like UWE said, you don't want to make a map all the same, and have a theme for specific places in your map.
To me, it seems that there's a little of everything and miss something that really makes you recognize the corridor (and where you are) in your map. That is gameplaywise mostly. Other than that, it really breaths NS so keep up the good work. I wouldn't go for too detailed ceiling as I think the level of detail is just perfect as it is now.

well these pics are a transition from themes/lighting schemes... I try and use the changes to help a player learn where they are and easily navigate. I'll see what I can do though to carry a few things over from one room/corridor to the next without getting too repetative.

pipi, something seems off with that room... the red lights deffinately look awkward. I'm just not feeling it as much as your previous work.

Hey thanks man, I appreciate the compliment. I'm doing my best.
Working on a bad ass room right now, this should come out really nice, I'll post a screenshot whenever it starts looking good.
