    I reckon the infestation ghost preview is for hive/harvester? I can't imagine running around as a Gorge with a ghost preview in front of me by default (assuming Heal Spray = Gorge spray). It would be uber annoying given what little we can see that isn't teeth decay :P

    It will probably be something similar to Hydra placement, and require selecting weapon slot 3.

    The current belly slide needs work, as it is near to useless at the moment. If the DI prolongs the belly slide and turns it into a movement ability, then i'm all for it.

    Sort of how the Lerk can fly forever and increase speed by rotating and rocking your aim, so the Belly Slide should be similar on DI.

    How come so much stuff keeps getting added to 163? It seems like performance has sort of fallen by the wayside recently.

    Have you played recently, bro? There's typically only one server with players on it and that server is never full to begin with. Morale is already low. Connectivity is just awful right now; add to the fact that marines love to medkit and ammo spam.

    Well, they're going to have to implement the features eventually, might as well get that out of the way and continue optimizing the game. At least we'll see how the game handles the new content, and find a solution from there on out.

    Max has stated several times lately that performance & optimisations are his top priority, just because its not in the tracker and its not being talked about 24/7 doesnt mean its not being addressed, if performance bugs you, don't you think it will bug the developers more? Every patch lately has gained a little bit more performance, i expect this will continue.
    Hopeful for a patch this weekend lads, with or without DI.

    Netcode isn't an issue, server performance is. This was explained in the technical Q&A posted just two days ago. Please read it.
    Summary:
    The lowest ping you can get from a server is based on the update rate. If the server update rate is 2 per second (really really bad), that means the lowest ping you can achieve is 500ms.

    Server performance is generally a lot better with higher MHz server machines, as testified by endar - operator of one of the only decently-running NS2 servers currently.

    Skulkrush is a very nice server, last days i play on it and it has like no lag.
    I hope they fix hydras, they increase the lag and lerk spikes into walls too!

Max has stated countless times that performance is his #1 priority at the moment, and that is what he has been focused on.     Its not an exact science. Some optimizations that are expected to make a big impact sometimes result in smaller then expected gains, and vice versa. One optimization may have a large impact, but some other issues may be holding back the gains made from it. Add to that, everyone is running on a completely different system. Some people may see huge gains with one type of graphics card, while people with other cards, don't. Optimizing a game to run on a large spectrum of system specs is a very daunting process, compared to optimizing a game around 1 type of hardware, like an xbox or playstation.

    These are all partly reason why we don't want to hype up certain optimizations that are being worked on, because everyone will expect a huge improvement and then be potentially disappointed when the patch comes out and they don't see any difference.

    Trust me, Max is as frustrated as any of you. The poor performance eats away at him every day, and he is working hard to improve server lag and framerate. The new features and prototyping you see are coming mostly from Charlie's end (such as the DI at the moment) so its not taking time away from Max's optimizations.
