    Devouring was super fun when you were playing onos, but god was it annoying as marine. Especially if it happened multiple times in a short period of time even if you were moving in a group, you get this "why always me" feeling. And it really doesn't fit for Onos' class. I mean, Onos is a tank, not a stealthy hit-and-run oneshooter.

    Saying all that, I don't wan't to see it completely gone :P Maybe if onos had to stay stationary for a short moment while devouring a marine, so he would be more vulnerable.

    It was annoying from time to time, but it was fun to get saved and scream your way out. I'm up for it, as long as Exo's don't get digested.

    At first I was thinking yes, because I remember how fun it used to be trying to save teammates from being devoured, but then I realized I'd rather see the Onos as a front line tank. So, no. Let's see how the new Onos abilities work when he's released.

    it actually was a fun ability, and if aliens had sensory chamber, walking down the hallway and suddenly eaten was priceless. I want to say, bring it back but without knowing how the new abilities work in combat its hard to comment. Though the fun factor for devour is just over the top for me, i've had much fun with it.

    I just want the Onos in the game now! There needs to be something new to keep people playing. Onos or shift or something that will add a new gameplay element. Don't say I'm impatient :P I have been playing since engine test and will continue to do so as long as it keeps working :)

    Crazy idea: Let Onos devour an egg, carrying it with him until he dies. If a Kharaa player spawns inside an Onos' belly, have him automatically regurgitated out to fight.

    Tank doubling as mobile spawn, yeahhhh

    Would it be to much to let an onos devour a corpse to get a slight healing increase? It would take a moment so he couldn't do it mid combat.

    But I agree with others not wanting the onos devour back. Sure cool thought, but extremely annoying after your first game.

    But they were already there waiting on us. We fell webbed from the sky. It looked like the end for sure as we fell right next to the onos we were chasing. "Surely, he will want his revenge" I thought - after all it was only fitting. But I'm not going out like a ######, so I pull out my knife and take a few last stabs at the onos before he smooshes me into paste.

    Much to my surprise, my stabbing him was enough to take his last 10 hitpoints! Not only that, but now my exo-suited HMG toting homeboy was freed! After that we murdered the base and saved the chicks and went home happily ever after.

    After that my friend told me that onos ride through the map while he was listening to us frantically yelling in the comms and muffled JP's with shotgun blasts was the most memorable thing that's ever happened to him in a game.

    It may not fit with "competitive" play, but then again I don't think this game should even try for that stupid title. The game keeps getting these stupid changes like alien commanders and fun abilities taken out for some idiotic "not good for competitive" ideal. Don't even attempt that. Go for having fun - because if you try to get serious there's a million more shooters out there that will do it better than you ever will. You're taking away all the flavor that made NS and instead trying to make it like every other game out there.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    Yawn. 'k well here's a question for you, though. What if you were the one getting devoured, and your teammates failed to kill the onos? (what happens a great majority of the time)
    And the fact that the onos took off for the hive quite literally immediately... that's not good at all.

    I use to hate it when I was up on a ledge and an onos would jump and chomp at my foot and all of a sudden I was devoured.

    I really don't think it should be included in NS2. It was the most annoying thing about NS1. Many many times I would just stop playing when even moving as a group of 6-7 marines an Onos would just run in and devour me, 2 minutes later moving again as a group it would happen again and again and again. As someone said earlier it was the whole "why me?!?!" feeling and it ruined the fun.

    Countless times someone with high ping would be across the room and then all of a sudden POOF I am devoured. That was probably more annoying then getting eaten multiple times in a row.

    It takes control away from the player and makes you have to wait even longer to spawn again. If I die I die just let me spawn and get back into the action. I don't want to sit around for 30-60 more seconds waiting in a IP queue after I was just devoured.

    I already casted my vote but I will say it again.

    Please do not bring devour back.

    The devour was buggy (you had to target the marine's chest ffs!), unbalanced and the only thing it was good for was to take out a marine player from play, which was more than annoying for that marine if another onos is waiting at the drive through infantry portal.

    i like devour! and onos will not have stomp (only for structures) so it will not be as frustrating as in NS1. And the timespan could be adjusted. you stay 10 seconds in the stomacke and then start to respawn again (onos health regen itself could last longer). i dont see a problem with that

    Uh, I would have been the guy yelling for help? Duh. Explain "the fact that the onos took off for the hive quite literally immediately... that's not good at all." And yes, it's a one-hit-kill attack (again, duh!) that's kind of the purpose of it.

    I believe a good fix is to assume that the player is already dead inside of the Onos, and to send the player into the spawning queue immediately. If the onos is killed, then the player will just jump back out of the queue and reappear over the corpse. The only problem left to handle would be finding an average cooldown time, since respawning can take longer than digesting. Possibly a confirmed death after 15 seconds, and cooled down after 20.

    I like this. It takes care of the TSA whiners by killing them instantly, and the onos gets to keep some of it's "OH SH^T!" factor with 1 hit kills and self-regeneration by way of devour. If we're going to do it this way, though, the onos should be able to eat any marine. Even one in Exo.

    Doesn't devour usually take 30s to digest a marine in classic? While respawning takes something like 6 or 10 seconds? So the opposite problem is more of an issue, respawning before digestion is complete.

    There isn't much of a problem with devouring if person inside dies within 5-15 seconds. Longer periods just promote reconnecting.

    Argument about dying when attacked from someone that is half room away with 300ms applies to every lag compensated attack.

    To start I loved devour...and I would love to see it back.
    I remember as well telling people i was eaten, then being freed or digested.
    I remember swallowing people and laughing.
    It was one of the things I told people about to turn them onto NS1...and it worked.

    So my vote is a general yes for the concept of devouring ...
    but not NOW.

    I would rather they hammer and polish the list they have now so I can play an awesome game when they put the 1.0 stamp on it.

    If they implement devour...
    I would hope they do the same discussion, implementation, and iteration scheme they have been doing all the other features.
    I would want it done better ... so it did not cause so much crying.
    Finally I would hope they give the marines some wacky and amusing feature at the same time.

    What had me playing NS1 for so long was not just the 'strategy'
    it was because it was cool and fun.

    devour was just that cool and fun.

    just like everyone else, being devoured was one of my most memorable moments in ns1.

    also, if it's implemented... a see-through stomach view would be appreciated so we can see how much effort our team mates are making to get us out.

    While necessary to balance the NS1 onos, I can't say I cared for it too much. A one-shot kill which takes a random player out of the game for 30s isn't my idea of a great ability. In terms of a resource depletion mechanic I much prefer spore, far less binary than a one-shot. In terms of removing a player from the game for 30s I think it might not suit the FPS aspect of the game. If new stomp disables buildings then surely stomping a phasegate from afar will perform the same function as devour?

    I did appreciate the fun and surprise of actually being rescued, as well as the sneaky scouting info you got when you were poo'd out. It is fun... but only occasionally. Who remembers the frustration of getting your brand new stuff and being instantly eaten a couple times in a row?

    Maybe some sort of homage to NS1 devour could be included where if you're on low health for X seconds as a marine and you get killed by the onos your death waiting screen will be onos goatse?

    Onos devour was awesome but the only way I am going to like it is if it comes with an awesome animation where the:

    1. Onos should hit the marine into the air (With his head)
    2. Onos should 'catch' him in his mouth and swallow!
