Make a special map for bigger player numbers, and you can have an epic huge battle terrain. Why not?
Incorrect.
Funny pic tho.

You're right. The lag was terrible, but it was so chaotic that it didn't even matter.
Hydra forests, and so many babblers everywhere that their nonstop chatter became hilarious.
Also seen some epic gorge tunnels, and to my surprise they maze they created had some logic to it...our comm deserved respect, for keeping it all under control (at least, he tried lol).
I had no lag or fps problems, but a few players had to leave.
It was a nice change of pace, imo.
I'd rather stick with the 16-24 player servers though. At least there's no shortage of players once a match is over I guess. Server never fully empties until 75% of the server leaves, you can still have a good match going on < half capacity.
To be fair, it's not as laggy as I was expecting and is almost as good as the 24 player servers. It's only late game heavy combat where it starts to go a bit nuts.
You NS2 purists are predictable!
About time Europe got a big server, US server is always full, can never get in
I see people moaning about the high slot number but some people find it fun, by hosting a 40 slot server i'm not affecting you it's not like your servers are also 40 slots now.
People who like 20 slot servers can play on 20 slot server. I see no reason why both can't exists.
I'm working on getting a solid 30 tick rate with 40 players, currently it will do 30 tick with 40 players but 15min in + heavy combat can see tick rate dropping to 5-10 range.
I'm editing the spark engine + server code in order to increase performance, luckly I can code in x86 asm.
Some random stats I fnd on a site: ( dunno how reliable it is )
LETS DO DIS.
Although I suppose for that exact reason of why I dislike it, people will like it. They can submerge themself in the numbers making their failures not stand out
You just answered your own question.
I suspect the majority enjoy big games because they are simply less stressful, free of failure and judgement and therefore just more fun to play.
I can't see why big servers and small servers can't peacefully co-exist with each other.
