I so wish I had mod ability on this forum so I could delete all the me-too posts and the i-dont-like-to-read-the-thread-before-i-post posts. I swear this thread would be 5 pages long at most.

Oh no, paralyze is one of the best weapons in the game.
If nothing else, this thread has improved my selection of Onos tactics immensely
Sounds like an interesting new ability though in practical terms it seems easy to bypass for marines, the aforementioned kill command being the most obvious method. Losing an existing ability for it also seems unfortunate.
Still, the game needs a marine posession ability. You can't have hive mind aliens in any genre or media without having human brain sucking abilities
Anyway, I think this ability would be great for the Onos, but that marines should NOT be able to do any damage to the Onos or I would never use this ability. I would rather have the marine respawn sooner than later if he's gonna be damaging me when I can't shoot back at him. This thread was also commented on in the S&I forum, and I said there that I would put the marines in third-person spectator mode (even though he is alive) on the onos so that he would at least have something to do other than make the bathroom run he has needed for a few minutes.
Okay I read all 15 pages, so please dont flame me.
I think that this Devour is more of an onos Nerf then an addition.
The only possible ability it could replace is Charge. Heres why. Gore/horn is a hive 0 Ability, and thus replacing with devour would be too overpowered. Paralyse is the only ranged ability of the onos, and thus his only way to defend against a Jetpack Marine, otherwise he is a sitting duck, and is a far too invaluable skill to remove. Primal Scream is a great teamplay skill, even if overpwerfull, its a great support skill, removing it, just gives more power to Rambos, and less incentive to move as a group. Now charge. Charge HAS to be removed for the simple fact that, if there was a choice between charge or devour, charge wins all the time. you meet up with 3 Heavy armours, what to do. Devour one, run away, and hope that they dont try to rescue thier friend, maybe paralyse them so you get a head start? or Paralyse them, the charge them all into the ground. (All marines dead, as opposed to one marine dead, then having to go back for more)
When I read this, it was on another forum, crossposted, and at first I thought it was a joke, and early April fools gag, but then I came to check it out, and find out that its true. Personally, I dont like this idea much, from either side, Marine or Alien. At the moment, I think that the Onos is balanced fairly well, considering he IS an endgame unit. Even at hive 1 he is still a powerfull unit, but lacks many abilities. Devour sounds more like a gimmick than a real skill to be implemented, I would prefer to use Gore and other skills, then be slowed down by a skill that really has no use other than to annoy. But as I have yet to see the rest of the changes in 1.1, I think that I will hold final judgement untill i have played with it for at least 2 weeks.

... Or you can swallow them and disguise yourself as a very, very fat Marine.
Whoever said that "for the first 10 seconds" the marine should be able to use his gun, do you have ANY idea how long 10 seconds in game really is? Sit in your chair, and count, one, two, three, four... that is a VERY long time. The onos would be long dead before 10 seconds was up. Guys, stop and think before you post. Do you honestly think that devour will be the only change implemented? How can you complain about how terrible something is before you have even tried it?

I'd love to see an NS High-Definition pack released which would include high-poly model renders. Even though HL can lag with lots of polys, it'd still be nice.
i think if the onos poo the guns out, the marines can pick em up and use it again, so its a little balanced, and not lose the gren/hmg but then the guns will be dirty with poo

I didn't say it was a BAD change I said it was a GOOD change....
It forces marines to use their resources more WISELY. If the Onos could just scoop up a marine then run away, paralyze one, gore him to death, run to heal, then scoop up another, he's just a friggin massive stalker. IF you do replace charge with it I swear that so many alien players are going to be **** as hell. YES I can kill 3 HA marines, BUT I do sacrafice a whole hell lot of stanima for it. Also charge can STILL be defeated by good HA marines who dodge the charge by jumping out the way, then continue firing. Also note that paralyze is hard to aim at 3 marines if they spread out and keep jumping . You may hit one and kill one, but your sacraficing your Onos.
Aliens are all about rambo work, that's why most of the time their alot easier to adapt to then Humans. They may require ninja l337 skulk skills in the beginning, but later once they hit fades it turns into an easy shoot shoot shoot at the marine game....
I wish you could use your knife or some kind of weapon, maybe your pistol? I mean it's so unfair to the marine stuck inside if he can't do ANYTHING to fight it. Comms will lose LOTS of resources if they lose their HA marines. It does promote mixing up armors, weapons, but the problem is that what if the Onos grabs a marine, and scrams off to other aliens covering him? You'll never touch him. The marine inside HAS to have some kind of way to get out. If it means using the grenade launcher to kill him and the Onos so be it. Or maybe the devs could implant a c4 suicide that can only be used inside the Onos j/k
well it sounds like a cool thing, especially if you add the feature to spit out a marine, BUT arnt the onos strong enough already.. are the marines gonna get any new feature ? ? .. if not then ns will simply turn into a stacker mod with stupid people joiing server and al waiting in the alien waiting bay to join aliens...

This had probabl been put forward, but just make the Onos move slower and/or disable some/all of it's abilities while the marine is swallowed. Thus making him easier to kill
i dont think the kill command needs to be removed completely, if you are stuck and the server doesnt have unstuck plugins then you might have an extremely long wait to get back into the action
the kill command can get you back to your base if it is under attack but you risk losing the ip before you spawn back in and any weapons,armour/jp that you had wiil be lost
Its on to page 16 and i honestly didnt read everybody's responses...
BUT just in case nobody mentioned it, upon becoming devoured, the player should most definately drop all his weapons. Not only will this solve the "shooting inside Onos" problem, but it would also make eating decked-out Marines more risky, because someone right behind him could pick his HMG up, and you can't eat that one at the same time .

For the record: if Devour *does* replace Bite (which I doubt), I imagine it will work like this:
If the Onos has an empty stomach, he will devour a marine. If the Onos has a marine digesting, he will simply Bite/Gore anyone he attacks.
This would actually be my choice, though Devour may be too powerful an ability for a 0-hive Onos. Personally, I would miss Charge; Onos needs the ability to mess up *groups* of marines.
Kill in the console was my first thought when i read that post too, that'd be very annoying for the onos, as an onos I'd rather get a kill then to give the player time to pull down console and type kill =/ all well. suggestion: find a way to disable "kill" for 30 seconds..
The true measure of skill will now be to paralyze a jetpacker and eat him before he hits the ground.

What happens when a marine is being devoured, but the Onos (having cunningly gone for the redemption upgrade) redeems instead of dies? Level three redemption is very effective for the upper level Kharaa at the moment, so chances are he'll survive.
I reckon that if the Onos redeems, the marine should be freed.
