    Shottie = longer FULL reload, less vulnerable. not exactly as all you guys see it. I prefer a full clip at the end of my reload, and for me a shottie is agonizing with its single-shot reload. I'll keep my HMG, thank you!

    I like the shotty.

    Mainly because.. when I have an HMG or GL.. I don't want to die at all, so I'm very very defensive while using the 25+ weapon. Yet with a shotgun you're forced to be aggressive and the gun isn't very expensive, it also kills skulks and lerks easily if you got some aim <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> hell you don't even need aim at medium distances.. they'll get hit with the spray <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    the shoty had the best damage per amo load, and second best damage per 1 amoe (gren beats it but its realy hard to hit with gren)

    see the shotguns efectiveness increases more with the user than the hmg, the diference between someone who is good with an hmg and someone who is not isnt very noticable, and the hmg spread means its only efective a mid to short range, the shotgun is only short to short/mid. the shotgun is better for killin aliens hands down and good against any alein building but a oc. HMG can be used against aliens and oc (oc acuracy decreases greatly as range increases, with the shoty you have to be close enouph that the oc will hit you fairly often)

    Also a shoty is harder to wait out, you can interupt loading to fight, when a marine has to load a hmg he is a sitting duck. it take a short period of time to load a shoty, and you could just load the one shell to kill the alien with.

    so in conclusion

    Respect the Shoty, it got style

    shotguns are the best, its like a mobile siege cannon, you can easily kill an rt with about 20 shells.

    I'm pretty good with both of those weapons. Although, I prefer the shotgun more. In most public servers, they'll won't give it to me, because they think it sucks. "leik hell n0 i have rez 4 a hmg u get it lawlz i am krazy and leet to". Most people prefer the HMG, because it's easiest to learn, and you can kill a lot of stuff with it. But, with a shotgun, it takes time to learn. You need to get better at accuracy, whereas with HMG you just fire and hope everything you shoot dies. As for the reload issue, I don't find this a problem, except when I'm attacking hives. For both of them. One time, I just started welding the hive, because I didn't want to waste time reloading. I died, in the end, still, but I would've died anyway if I was jetting around, waiting for HMG to reload. With shotgun, on the other hand, I can blast 10 bullets into a hive, and after that, I can still hit it, but with a slightly longer time between the shots. HMG is a nice weapon, but I'd wish commanders would give out shotguns more. My clan are the only people I can convince to hand out shotguns to me. I wish I found a nice server where shotguns were plentiful and HMGs fewer.
    Not that I don't like HMG, I can single-handedly take out a hive or 2 with it, but it's just too slow and inaccurate for me. Me, I'm the kind of sniper person; I'm crazy about accuracy, and even though the shotgun isn't the best at long range (neither is the HMG, for that matter), it's the best weapon. Aside from divinewind, of course =)

    the shotgun can stop skulks and lerks and instead of losing your mind trying to gun down those pesky gorges with an lmg, its just 1/2 shots and its dead. and shotgun is very useful when giving close combat support fire

    I prefer shotgun with jetpack, always the best combination hands down. If you are jet pack rushing, you are going to be in the hive anyway, whats the advantage of having a 'longer' range weapon, when you are going for a close-up, high damage attack.

    As I see it, the HMG is more effective as a defensive weapon (or for clearing walls of lame), while the shotgun is more effective as an offensive weapon.

    The reload animation of the HMG, I find highly distracting while I'm trying to navigate my jetpack, often causing me to make fatal mistakes.

    I prefer shotgun too, but your Marine doesn't. Try not shooting your HMG for a short while. Your character starts stroking & petting it as though he had a cute liddle puddy cat in his hands!     Shotguns are a lot more powerful when you are right at them but an hmg will take a few shots but will go faster and have a longer range. It is just really how your aiming is.

    Hmg's are better due to their enlarged clip which can take out hives much easier + the CoF on the shotgun makes it much more luck then skill if you hit with every slug rather then half your slugs. The only difference is that shotguns r cheaper but their disadvantages are a higher cof, smaller clip. Only times to use shotguns is vs gorgs rush's or shotty rush's. Or if you just dont have the rsr's <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->.

    well i still like my trophy of the fade i gunned down with my faithful shotgun, he just turned a corner and bam, he was down in 2 shots. which even though the hmg's high ammo capacity and firing speed it can take over 40 rounds to kill a fade which it can take 2-4 rounds to kill a fade with a shotgun

    cof, cone of fire, of course at slightly longer ranges the cof of the hmg makes it equaly as useless (i used entire clip, thats 125 bulets) on a skulk way across the room (the one with all the catwalks right outside fo the holo room) without killing it, cus of the spread, i ended up having to bust out the pistal to get him.

    I had a guy with a jetpack and shotty take out refinery hive all by himself the other day. He obviously had good fps, as he just circled around the hive without ever landing and merrily pumped away at the hive. A bit of ammo and health spam in a pile up on the catwalks was all he needed to get the job done.

    Shotgun advantages:
    1. Better reloading. You can reload 1 shell at a time if necessary.
    2. Lighter --> more mobility.
    3. Cheaper.
    4. Burst damage can make enemies overconfident and counter redemption.

    HMG advantages:
    1. Far higher damage output.
    2. Better ranged accuracy.

    HA groups should have a mix of both IMO, HA too often get nailed when half the group is reloading and the other half is welding, and HA need all the extra mobility they can get. For anything else, the enormous damage output of the HMG makes it the weapon of choice. Jetpackers don't have a problem with the HMG weight, and they can fly out of harms way while reloading.

    I'd take an lmg over a shotty, and an hmg over that. Shotty's are fun, its just one shot won't kill a carapaced skulk, and you're dead if you miss the first (and yes, it does happen, even if you're an ubre "elite" shotgunner, you do miss occasionly) They're great for dispatching lerks though. I don't like shottyies on the ground, but i'd prefer one over an lmg if i had a jetpack.

    But then i'd take an hmg over that.

    Shotty + Mines = Dead Hive

    The only problem I have with the shotty is that it sucks trying to take down o towers, and that's what the mines are for. Place a mine on the o tower and run, in 2 seconds it's gone. Now take whatever mines you have left and your shotty and the hive'll be gone. Not by yourself, of course. Teamwork kids.

    HMG for fighting, shottys for fun.
    If I really want to win the game (for example a clanwar against an even skilled clan) then HMG, if I want to have fun (a normal public game or a clanwar against a newbie clan) then shotguns.

    i think hero has about the right idea....shottie isn't all that great unless you got a jp, but even then an HMG still tops it.

    Normally the HMG, though shotties are fun to have around in a group. I get frantic when I try to aim in close combat, so usually I die more the the shotgun, since I'm closer to the alien. The HMG lets me nail aliens far far away :-)

    Some advantages of the shotgun as well....
    Will kill an umbraed lerk better than the HMG for the most part because of the burst damage.
    Burst damage owns redemtion very nicely.
    The overall output is way below an HMG and its sustained fire is of course non exsistent, but its an awesome cheap support weapon when the comm is running low on rp's.

    Honestly, ANY big group movement should include a shotguner or two. The support they provide and damage they do is powerful as all hec. If you have 4 shotguners a fade can die in under a second if they all pull the trigger at the same time at him. I know that it takes good aim and only a few people are as good with it as they should be, but still. Its nice.

    In early game I think that it's effective to give your best player a shotty, but later on only against things with redemption. A squad with hmgs is infinitely more powerful than shotguns, as they put out a huge volume of fire, and heavy damage. Especially with heavy armor, sinve the slow movement limits shotty effectiveness, but not particularly for heavys, and when you jetpack up to their hive, the hmg is still more valuable.
