i checked out the site for the bots, i was really interested in this because i am currently on 56k and cant play NS online. which really sucks because i love NS, but i checked the news and it wasnt really descriptive, whats the current status of your bot....a waypoint suggestion.... eclipse would be nice :-D

Hey great bots! I got some commanets though.....
1- Can you make the bots stay in commander mode longer? They seem to liike logging out after 5 minutes. 2-When the bots find something breakable (mainly marine bots) they seem to try to break it with their knvies. They get stuck around it, circling it trying to break it. I have to either find em or logout of the commander, and then go break it for them. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
To be honest, I don't really need bugs/suggestions for the 'old' (current) version of the bot because I'm totally rewriting it, and most of the bot will be changed, including the handling of shooting / knifing breakables. Also I don't think I'll be putting commanding in the new version for a while, until it NS allows creating new buildings easy (instead of the bots haxing <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->)
Here's an idea... could you maybe add an option to the RCBotNS commandmenu to be able to kick a bot out of the command console? That would be a handy thing to add, until the bots get a little better at building a marine base (IPs and stuff).
So hows the meta mod version going cheeseh? Just wondering if you can tell us what you have planned and how you expect to see the bots moving in your upcoming release and how far your into it?
Im interested because currently the bots can't figure out how to jump over rails in eclipse and they dont follow orders..... Im also just generaly interested in how things re progressing.
But still, its such a top effort because it allows you to practice little things offline and set configs etc.....
metamod version is working better i guess than normal version <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
The way the bots handle orders, movement etc is totally different, but can be difficult to control at times <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
The can't really jump over rails because they think they can walk through them because for some reason the tracelines go straight through them, but I guess I can do it a different way <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo--> but less effective methos of jumping over rails..
meh, good to hear its coming allong still <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
Railings are a giant pain in the butt, because of the collision detection problem you describe. Mutt did a bunch of work on that problem for me and (mostly) managed to resolve it, albeit with a fairly complex solution.
Actually, the railings do show up on collision detection some of the time, it's just that the tracelines will usually go between rails. Lovely, I know.
I've been running RCBots on 66.177.40.168:27017 Depot's Nutz NS W/LerkLift since version .153 came out. As marines they follow waypoints well, and also defend targets. The bot comm also uses no res when he builds, so let him build (he'll only stay in the chair 2 or 3 minutes) then recycle it if you don't need it (FREE MONIES!). The alien bots leave a bit to be desired, especially the skulks (if the skulks could aim like the marines can they'd rip some a**!). If you set your rcbot config right you'll have only one gorge bot, and he'll revert back to skulk the moment you go gorge. I finally factored onos out, as they tend to get stuck way to easily. As my game advances there is normally 2 lerks, 2 fades, and 1 gorge.
<!--emo&::marine::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/marine.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='marine.gif'><!--endemo--> Tbh I haven't been working on it much, I've been working on other plugins for public servers, but I can still re-used some of their code for the bot, so I guess it aint that bad! I've just been testing the bots ability to handle orders with the new task system, they seem to work, but there are bugs when the bots just stand still forever <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo--> ! Anyway next thing is, fixing that and adding more things like using ammo disps, mainly doing marine code atm. There seems to be a bug though which causes HL to quit when two bots try to attack each other, totally werid, no idea what causes it <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
Not sure Cheesah if you also do the waypoints, or someone else does, but 3 waypointed maps are useless (bast, caged, hera) as marine bots cannot climb the ladder to enter the command chair and build. I know the marine comm building is developmental but this is imperative if the bots are to sustain normal map rotation on the server. In other words if no humans are present on the marine team the marine bot MUST have the ability to enter the chair and his first priority should be to build an IP. ...... and YES, I am aware of latejointime and have adjusted it.
How about you develop RCBotNS as a Marine bot only, <i>a la Whichbot</i>? Seein as you're delving on the marines moslty anyway, and since Clam's and your bots get along so well together... <!--emo&::skulk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/skulk.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='skulk.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::marine::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/marine.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='marine.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='pudgy.gif'><!--endemo-->
Better yet: join up, you two, and do a joint venture! Who knows? ye might be developing an official bot for future versions even!
wishful thinking? Probably... but what pleasurable wishful thinking it is... <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
Although I've heard claims that RCBots and WhichBots are compatible, the waypoints available for WhichBots are severely limited (in regards to RCBot's waypoint availability) so this issue needs to be addressed if these two programs are to co-exist.
