I once had a comm relocate to U-Turn res node on ns_mineshaft. We seiged out drill acces, and moved into it very quickly.

Also since U-Turn has nice ladders on both sides, onos could never make it in alive from HMG or even concentrated LMG fire.

Needless to say, we took over the double node, then rampaged the remaning hives with HA trains.

    GG! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

If by best you mean most effective, then the best strats I've seen make considerable use of exploits. Those I'm not using, let alone sharing.

With a compentant team of marines, the best strat in 2.01 is the same as 1.04. (ironic, isn't it)

One or two marine guards, well the rest divide into groups and rambo, knifing rt's, killing eggs, basically, being a nusisance to the Kharaa so it takes a real long time to build the hive.

Also, when laying down rt's, never electrify. It's cheaper to replace it, that it is to electrify it.

If your marine team is a real bunch of crack shots, go spawn camping for a bit.

If done right, the marines should be swimming in res. Then outfit everyone in HA, form a weld train, and demolish the aliens only hive. (they should only have one if done properly)

Not sure how this game would work in a clan setting as I only play pub's. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

On ns_caged, relocate to that vent near Ventilation hive (if you're going uphill, the one to the left, not in front). It's great, they can't attack you, and there is the double resource node spot nearby, along with Sewer, Purification Station, all that, and not to mention you can move into Vent and siege away.

On ns_nothing we managed to sneak me and aonther marine into those new vents under the bridge at via. Needless to say we seiged their hive before they could put down more than 2 rt's. They cant hear u building either when they go by <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

From the top of my head:

    - Relocate to sleeping quaters on mineshaft. Lock down drill.

    - Take the ventilation side of hera and put a base up in cargo. Seige holo room and take holo and processing from here.

    - Siege both datacore and vent from processing on hera =)

    - Veil marine start can seige the double node EDIT: If you can't take the double yourself at the start and the aliens lame it up, punish them by sieging it. If they don't lame it up you can take it with man power. Either way you win. =)

    - nothing's red room = teh win, lock cargo or power first. Tech to JPs and win.

    - Generator room on nothing can siege 2 res nodes from its position and it keeps the cargo nodes behind your front lines. You automatically take miasma for free!

If done correctly however, it can SHRED marines where they stand (they won't be standing long though ).
It requires 4 Lerks and 3 hives.

The Lerks need the Adrenaline upgrade, and I recomend they have Regen and Cloaking.

3 Lerks sit wherever marines come through a doorway or around a corner. (A good example is in Hera - wait for the marines to come out from the glass tube right outside their base, although a little more room to move would be nice). These lerks use their spine shot attack (their first attack) and hit anything that moves through the door. The 4th Lerk uses Primal Scream and the bloody death begins. At the highly accelerated rate of fire the 3 original lerks recieve, they maul anything that they hit.

Best I've seen is on ns_lost. You can stay in marine start, or relocate to Los Paranois, but the main thing is, get a TF with lots of turrets up in Internal Access. This is if the aliens dont have alpha hive at start. The TF and turrets in internal keep aliens from going to Los, or Eternal Node, and gives you Alpha node. You can then move into overlook, and temperature, really if they have Cargo or the other hive, I forget name, starts with an E. If they have cargo, you might want to just lock down the E hive, gives you that node, coolant distribution, and docking (secret weldable node). Pretty much a sure win for marines, but everyone likes to do it, so its a real toughy getting Los or Internal Access.

Have 2 people go gorge, they build a RT each then build 3 DCs. Everyone goes fade as soon as they get 50 res and rape marine start.

This is a tactic, but it only serves for enjoyment of the Alien team.

Every time the Marines lose, it's usually at their base, right? Take this situation:

    4 Gorges building Movement Chambers
4 Fades standing next to all Movement Chambers and firing Acid Rockets

Result, a constant stream of Acid Rockets, in to which, there is NO counter. It's basically just a massacre.

One time, seriously now, ONE TIME, there was this marine commander that knew it was a bad idea to relocate to RR. He placed two RTs, electrified them, and it was all good while we locked down waste and relocated there.

    I was so happy.

Relocation to Generator rt in ns_tanith (or was it nothing) = win

    Brilliant relocation since:

    1: Located between two hives
2: Both hives can be accessed very quickly in case of anything
3: Alines can only access Cargo from Room With Things
4: Your surrounded by res nodes
5: Its in the center of the map
6: Very hard to attack (i.e. Elevator on one side, a hallway which goes directly into the room)

It all depends on the enemy team's tactic. If you try to pull out a particuliar strat without paying attention to the enemy you're doomed to fail. So this topic is absolutely pointless.

Couldn't have put it better myself.

There is however one tactic that is bound to work, takes some doing at times, it's the 'being better than the other team' tactic. Haven't seen it fail yet.

I agree with egg, if you just do your "winning strat" regardless of what the ennemies are doing, you're going to lose very, very quickly... But there are anyway some tactics that are more efficient than some others. Like the reloc in generator in ns_nothing. But even without this reloc you can win as marines. There are so many good different tactics in 2.01 ..

Comm built entire base in Omnious Kismet. Sure, it took a few /stucks to occasionaly get out, but it worked.

Then we ran around all over the map, getting rts ( and phase right next to them, elecing rts), got cargo, and got sieges outside via just in case. We literaly deprived the aliens of pretty much every single rt, giving them no chance to expand, and just crushed the only hive.

one of my favorite strats, but not a "strat to end all strats"

get a 2nd hive very fast, dont even need res nodes, get mc and dc and GORGE RUSH. have entire team go gorge with regen and adren go in and bile bomb the hell outta them. if its a good sized server, 20 or so, each gorge only needs about 3 bb's each to take out a tf and surrounding buildings. works if the rines dont see it comming.

Going for a generator reloc on ns_nothing is easily stopped by the aliens thanks to the ledge over the res-node size. Perfect place for a lerk to spam gas onto the marines, as well as bilebombing gorges.

Basically, it dont matter how good the comm is, if the team sucks youll loose and if it ownz you win...everything inbetween or if the aliens are the same will result in a nice game.

Ive played games when I had 2 people ouside both entrances to the aliens starthive and camp them for the entire game, fist with ammo/medspam, then with phases and TFs...

In the end, we had all but one RT and max tech in all, went in with 11 HAs..

I saw the best alien attack I've seen as a marine on ns_origin. Rines had biodome hive with a good defense with turrets and such. We fended off a lot of attacks. But then the most organized attack I've seen happened. It consisted of 3 gorges, 2 lerks and one fade. The gorges came up the ladders first and all three build 3 OC's right off the bat. The two lerks umbra'd the entire time. Once the OC's were up, all three gorges bile bombed our phase gate and TF. The fade took on any marine trying to kill the gorges. I was quite impressed. Never seen that level of cooperation with the aliens.

Some people don't seem to understand this topic.

The topic is: "best tactics you've ever seen", notice the past-tense. It is NOT "the best tactic to use [in ns 2.01]".

Thus, posting strategies to use or stating that no strategy is the be-all-end-all strategy is irrelevant.
